Wetlands 101 - What is a Wetland?

Wetlands provide many valuable services that are important for our quality of life in Delaware. They help purify our waters by filtering out pollutants and provide habitat for fish and wildlife species. Wetlands protect our coast from storms and protect homes and property from flooding by acting like sponges to absorb stormwater. They provide recreational opportunities while adding natural beauty. As we lose wetlands to human or natural causes we lose these valuable services.
