I adore Ann Patchett. Bel Canto was the first book I read by her, when it came out, so it holds a special place in my heart. I’ve read everything she’s written and enjoyed them all, some more than others. Her writing is so beautiful and honest and engaging. I’m smitten. If you decide to read Tom Lake, be sure to read “Our Town” (the play) first. It’s not necessary, but I wish I had because I ended up reading it after. Another favorite is The Dutch House and also Commonwealth and… Well, you get the picture. You’ve made me want to read Yumi!

i’ve never really read Brandon Sanderson (not a high fantasy kinda girl) but i’m halfway through Yumi and the Nightmare painter and i am LOVING it! I found that I love low stakes fantasy, not a world altering plot, i love an intricate and detailed world with an interpersonal conflict!

Both of these books sound so interesting! I picked up Bel Canto from a little free library recently and am definitely curious. And I absolutely loved Tress so I really want to read Yumi!!

I love Bel Canto! That book absolutely destroyed me when I first read it lol. Fun fact, it's based on a real event where the Japanese embassy in Peru was taken over in the '90s

Does yumi spoil something in the stormlight archives?
No!
It's so tempting to read the Yumi book now but I didn't like Tress because Sandersons humor really doesn't work for me. I love storm light archives and all the mistborn series. The story sounds interesting though
