I totally agree, it is a pro camera if one knows how to use it, I have been using it for 2 years now for real estate, nightclub photography, events, portraits, and it's awesome
I appreciate a review from someone who actually used the camera. Most camera reviewers on RUclips don’t seem to know much about the camera they’re reviewing…or photography.
A good photographer that knows his craft brings out the best in most cameras. I love those interior shots the colors are really well balanced and punchy. Good work thank you, and yes a good review with samples.
Nathan this is a great review and perfect timing for me! I was on a real estate shoot last weekend and my D780, which I bought last year and loved, fell out of the back of my SUV, crashing to the pavement. Doh! Thankfully I have PPA insurance, but I think it will be totaled and I'm awaiting a final repair estimate. In the meantime, I've been renting a Z5 for a week while I decide what to do and really like it so far. I too was skeptical that Nikon calls the Z5 an entry level camera, but I found myself looking at the Z6ii or Z7 anyway as a result of their marketing. It has been a great performer so far, and your recommendation seals the deal for me to get one, and maybe if my D780 is repairable, it will be my backup. I didn't have a backup camera, but now I know that I need one. It will take a month before I get the D780 back from the shop, if it's repairable. Your detailed setting recommendations are very helpful and I'll put them to use right away. As for the Z series bracketing button shortfall (I used the side bracketing button all the time on my D780) I decided to assign bracketing to the Fn1 button on the front. Bam! Quick and easy access with one step without scrolling across back screen menu. Thanks again for your great work and insights. I continue to be a fan. Rick
Tremendous film Nathan, many interesting points demonstrated in clear and easy to understand manner. Thanks for sharing your findings, it’s always interesting to get the views of a “real” pro.👏👍😀
Hi Nathan, great video as usual. I have a question. You may have addressed this in another video but I have not come across it. What is the reason for the 20mm outdoors. Is it not possible to use the Tokina 16-28 for outdoor shots too. Thanks.
Thanks! Flare, focal length, composition, and quality. I talk more about this in my exterior book, here's a link if you'd like to check that out: amzn.to/3yPWezB
Thanks for your awesome review of the Z5. Very thorough. I’m excited to try the Z5 at F8 ISO 320. Have you tried the Z6 at F8 ISO 320 and received the same exposure outcome, or does the Z6 require 7.1? Thanks for your excellent, consistent methods.
Thanks! The Z6 works just as well, but not my recommendation for interior REP (only one card slot, the Z5 has two). BTW, you can pick up a new Z5 at about 30% off right now at amzn.to/3BX8oct
From a quality point of view, is a mirrorless camera worth it? If I used the viewfinder to take photos, it'd make more sense to upgrade, to see the exposure, but I shoot 100% of my real estate photos using the back screen, I cannot remember the last time I looked through the viewfinder for real estate.
It's much more than just that, it's about time and money and "all things considered". You might want to watch the Background chapter ruclips.net/video/j4tdZVdi1bE/видео.html for why, and also this chapter ruclips.net/video/j4tdZVdi1bE/видео.html on the Flambient workflow.
You just simply use the i menu, which is fast and easy. Also see this portion of my review where I show how to utilize/customize it for bracketing: ruclips.net/video/j4tdZVdi1bE/видео.html And of course for AF to MF you can do that on the lenses I show in this review.
Great video! I'm just starting out with the same setup with the same Tokina, is there any reason I shouldn't use this lens for exterior shots and video until I'm actually making money and able to afford another body and lens? Making my way through all of your books too, thanks for all the great content!
Thanks! Flare, focal length, composition, and quality are things to consider on exteriors versus interior cameras. I talk more about this throughout my real estate photography series, especially in the exteriors book, here's a link if you don't have that one yet: amzn.to/3cgkJyi
Hi Guys, just wanted some advice on Nikon Mirroless cameras ( i',m a Nikon user ) looking to upgrade my current DSLR . Is anyone using the Z6ii or Z7ii ? Just wanted get some feedback or recommendations. Looking to upgrade soon, also hoping with the release of the Z6iii and Z7iii the older ones will drop in price. They are anticipating on new cameras being realesed in the next month or so. thanks in advance!! Con
Hello Nathan, thank you for your detailed review. I’m into real estate photography and I’m used to shoot with a D800, I’m considering to buy a Z5 to upgrade a little bit and (hopefully) have some more dinamic range without braking the bank…do you think that is worth the money for a Z5 or not? Thanks!
If your exterior bracket / timer was set to U1, U2 or U3, would it then retain that info after the camera was turned off? It does on my D7200. I'm looking at getting into a Z5, so that would be good to know. When I was shooting without a remote trigger, I set U2 for flash shots with a 5 second delay to give me time to get into position for a hand-held flash shot and U1 was for ambient shots on a 2S delay to allow the camera to steady.

Ive been using Z5s to pay the bills since the day they were available. Great bodies.

@@NathanCoolPhoto Thank you Nathan.

do you prefer shooting with a DSLR or a mirrorless?

Does the same godox xpro trigger and yongnuo shutter releases for say d7200 work on the x5?
Great video.
The biggest issue for me compared to my D750/850 is that it doesn't have a button/switch for MF/AF, nor for bracketing on the camera body
You just simply use the i menu, which is fast and easy. Also see this portion of my review where I show how to utilize/customize it for bracketing: ruclips.net/video/j4tdZVdi1bE/видео.html And of course for AF to MF you can do that on the lenses I show in this review.
I assign fn2 to bracketing. I also assign lens fn button on the lens to continuous high. Works great. Using Z6 and Nikon 14-24mm.

Thanks. Regarding your question, well, I think this video covered that. I'm using nothing but Z5s now, and I think the results speak for themselves :)

User settings on the Z series cameras don't retain bracketing settings.
For smart people, it is amazing camera…
When on sale its 975€!!!
Read that again
What shutter count do typically put on a camera before you considr an upgrade? Thanks.
Great question. Once I near 100,000 I replace it for onsite work and use the older cameras for offsite work.
@@NathanCoolPhoto Thanks.
Thanks for all your advices ! I really appreciate it !
