Your courses are the best I have found. Your explanations are clear because you explain literally word by word the meaning of each word in a sentence and this is essential for understanding. Many thanks. Can you please translate this for me : DOES THIS SAME TRAIN GO DIRECTLY FROM SHENZEN TO BEIJING OR SHOULD I CHANGE FOR ANOTHER TRAIN DURING THE COURSE OF THE TRIP ? Thanks

Thank you so much for your work.
In german the word flavour is "Geschmack", so you could ask:
    1) Haben Sie Marmelade mit einem anderen Geschmack?
Do you have jam with a different flavour?
However in this situation it is much more natural to ask:
    2) Haben Sie (noch) andere Marmeladensorten?
Do you have other kinds of jam?
    Or:
3a) Welche anderen Marmeladensorten haben Sie?
What other types of jam do you have?
3b) Welche anderen Marmeladensorten haben Sie (noch)?
What other types of jam do you have?
3c) Welche Marmeladensorten haben Sie noch?
What other types of jam do you have?
That little word "noch" is optional and can be left out. In this context it indicates that you are looking for alternatives, so if you use it like in Sentence 3c) you can drop the word "andere", because it is clear that you are looking for alternatives i.e. different kinds.
Unfortunately this doesn't work for sentence 2), because the question word "welche" is not there. So in sentence 2) you can use "noch" or leave it out, but the "noch" can't replace the word "andere".
I hope I didn't confuse you, but now you know almost everything about asking for jam in german 😂😂 Have a great day!

I hear "kuba ke yi" a lot on tv. From the dialogue, I use context clues and gather it's like begging to do something/asking someone to do something. Is this a type of emphasis on "ke yi" like trying to persuade someone or is this a "cute" way of asking for something? The word sounds like "kuba", but I probably spelled it incorrectly. I often hear it being said, but the subs are written in hanzi with english translation, not pinyin.

Katrina; Please do not insert the POP sound when you have a new sentence or point to make. It is so IRRITATING. I am a trained educator, with a teaching credential in the US and I now teach at a high school in China. I can tell you that there arent many places which recommend that you add a POP sound or ANY sound when the teacher is making a point. Learning remember is about concentration and absorbtion and that POP sound is distraction. When I first started watching your videos I would stop my video to check to see where I had gotten a message, because it seemed to be so loud and so many. It took awhile for me to realize that the POP alert notification sound was within the video. Gee, now is that helping me concentrate and focus or is it distracting?? I know you might think that sound is cute and harmless, or innocuous as we might say, but it is not and there is a reason that it is a NOTIFICATION SOUND--because it is distracting! Moreover, that sound is NOT PLEASANT repeated over and over. Please dont continue using it, as it detracts from your professionalism a lot.

@@smartmandarinkatrinalee I understand but I know how people are today and they will try to support you and protect you from any isolated criticism, esp in regard to professionalism. They'd rather make you feel good! Yet also look at other instructional videos. I have watched many for learning Chinese and none I can remember do that. By the way I like your lessons as they mix practical phrases with points on grammar that can be applied in other places also. Helpful.
