I think it's just incredible that, in the 90's, those little pests could get so near 200km/h. Nearly thirty years later, the Ninja 650 only just hits 200km/h.
Awesome bike dude... I had the zxr400 and still amazed to this day how quick it was for a 400! Managed to get an indicated 135mph once I swapped in a UK ecu.

I'm a light smaller guy and I swear I hit almost 240km/h so 145mph completely ducking behind the windshield blasting 14k rpm with a straight pipe 😂😂 Sold it after two years and it was my last sportbike. I knew this thing would kill me eventually. Waaaay too much fun wringing the small engine up on straights :D

I've had a 1990 zxr 400L a good few years ago now and was 1 of my favourite bikes tbh and that was some serious bike for a 400 never let me down and a dream to drive, I was very surprised on how quick of a machine it was 😏👍as the saying goes they dont make them like that anymore really is true, bike was bomb proof and sounded so dam good... that's how a 250 is supposed 2 sound

Great bike! superb power to weight ratio and easy to ride. sure, bigger sport bikes can go faster, but on nz roads this is all thats needed and you dont need to be 'Arnie" to handle it.
I wish I kept mine mine was blue an silver. I had a max plug in box the took red line round to 20,000 rpm with a race can . Sounded like it was going Rev for ever. 200 kph at a push
21 years ago I had the 1987 Honda (MC-17) CBR250R Hurricane 4 cylinder, my friend had the MC-19 CBR and another friend had the GSX-R 400RR Slingshot, when we rode around after high school it sounded like an f-1 race. Took my first serious girl friend for a ride and it could do 170 kph with her on the pillion seat no problems, not sure her parents were keen on me screaming toward their house at 18,000 rpm.

It is true I have reached , I would say 198km , I have the little box that plugs into the speedo so mine doesnt cut off at 16k in 6th! You can buy them off while Japan for about 50 bucks Definitely worth it

Hello fellow Kiwi. I had a CBR250R 1987 (MC17) My bike revved out in 6th gear all the way to 18,000 rpm, my friends 1989 model seemed to have a 6th gear speed and rev limited, mine did not. He could do 190kph then a limiter would kick in, I could get my bike off the clock to around 200 kph (125mph) I'm guessing.
I had 2 of these when I was younger. A 1989 one then a 1991 Model. They have a speed limiter in the speedo. It can be bypassed with a resister sorry i can not remember what one as i had done this to mine then you will see how they go. I had a friend on a 600 who said we were doing 210 one time
Hopefully the zx25r sounds like this, goes much harder and isn’t a pile of poop !, if that’s the case I’m sure we will see Yamaha etc follow suit, thx Kawasaki ! You guys rock.
Yeah I've been on a few rides with quick guys on 1000cc bikes and apart from the long straights it's easy to keep up. Honestly such a fun learner bike.
I had the big daddy of this bike the ZXR-750 same color. There are a few ZXR250's in New Zealand still, one for sale for 3 grand on trade me. I really wanted the 250 version of this bike back 20 years ago but settled for a CBR250R in the end, still a cool bike.
I got 205 out of my ZXR250 91, 74kgs, I got 180 with a pillion.. no speed record for getting there, but it got there,, the 19,000rpms was the ticket,,, real pocket rockets.
I am 5 7 125 lbs had original ninja 600 would kill to get a 250 or 400 four ninja in the usa, as light as I am that would be the perfect bike to carve corners. When will the manufacturers bring in small displacement 4 cylinder bikes to USA. I do not want a 500 or 650 twin they sound like a honda car with the cheesey coffee can exhaust, no guts at all. 250, 400, 500 fours can be light and scream at high RPMS. Not to mention bring in beginning riders with a bike that is truly sporty. Not all riders in USA want litre bikes. Truly where on the street can you stretch their legs, 14,000 rpm screamer at 120-130 is more than enough for the streets. The small light weight makes it a perfect bike in city traffic. and high RPM runs make it perfect for weekend play out in deserted areas hehe
+1 Best to slow down at junctions and driveways. It reminds me of the footage released by a mother after her son got killed (he was going fast on a junction and some oncoming car turned right).

Ride safe bro, watch those corners, I've come across shingle on a 55 corner with no signs, quite lucky to be alive. High side at 140-ish doesn't sound fun bro.
I see what you're talking about, I think it's just a raised little bit, almost like a casting mark (even though I know the frame is not cast). I think it looked like it was changing because of shadows coming and going, maybe. I certainly hope so! Hahaha

My dealer didn't know a thing about this beauty! I love it but prices vary but ALL are in the 600cc range, I'm not getting any 250 for 600 price! But this is cool if you have extra $$$! Lol
Depends on the country I guess. Here in New Zealand you can get a fairly abused one for about $3000 (NZD). Trouble is there are hardly any nice condition ones left (Original fairings, etc...)

Oliver P I really can't find anything for model A. The only available repair manual is for model C. My mechanic said that only models B and C uses size 35. That's why I'm here to ask you if what size of slow jet are you using on your model A?
@@lesterevio Yeah the A model manual is tricky to find, I have a copy of it in Japanese and then the C model one in English. Both manuals say a 35 jet for pilot jet (slow jet). I think your mechanic might be confusing it with the main jets which are very slightly different between A, B and C models.
I should maybe mention this is a 1989 "A" model.

cranky1812 entirely possible. It is running standard main jets and needles and has a less restrictive muffler than stock on it.

Yep that's factory specs, which is perfectly fine. Download a copy of the service manual, you can find it on several sites.
