    Two strokes are a lot cheaper to maintain. The skills to do Maintance, what change, piston and rings and put jets in a carburetor are always 10 times more easier than how to adjust the valves on a four stroke. A lot of people don’t live in California, where there seems to be twice as many race shops and dealers, so you have to do a lot of the work yourself. In my opinion, two strokes are cheaper to purchase easier to work on and maintain.

      Not just that, but if you know how to ride a 2-stroke, you can destroy 4-strokes...even with a smaller displacement. That's why they limit maximum 2-stroke displacement in the 450 class to 250cc, and 150cc in the 250F class. A 350cc -2stroke, with the latest upgrades, frame, vibration reduction, direct injection, etc, will lay waste to 4strokes in the right hands.

    Everyone is going to have their own opinion on this, and to each their own. But, I will play devils advocate on many of these opinions.... Carbureted? If we're going to compare for the sake of buying a new bike, new 2-strokes are EFI as well. Although, many still prefer carb's due to the simplicity and reliability. Vibration? Any post-2017 counter-balanced KTM-based 2-stroke is smoother than a majority of the thumpers and fatigue riders less. Ease of riding? Corner on a 4-stroke, and then the exact same corner on the 2-stroke. The 4-stroke, even if the same weight, will always feel heavier due the abundance of parts rotating, causing the engines to act as huge gyroscopes and requiring more energy to turn and lean the bikes over. Maintenance....2-strokes win there as well...no valve shimming, no stretching came chains, no multiple oil filters. Technology...both have throttle mapping, both have EFI...sort of the bust there. Cost...2-strokes are less to purchase, and less to maintain. Ease of riding...sort of comes to tuning. If you throw a new riding on a 450 or 300....both will hurt. Both can be tuned to be "easier" the ride. I will say that you can be generally "lazier" on the thumper due to the torque.
    In the end, each person have their preference. I learned on 2-strokes, but changed to thumpers when the 250F's started becoming popular, then a few 450s and 350s. But, after switching to primary off-road riding, I've gone back to 2-strokes and don't think I'll be riding another thumper off road for the reasons above. These 300 zingers just can't be beat. Ride on everyone!

    Everything you said is correct. However, keep in mind that 25 years of RD has gone into 4 strokes. Just take a moment and think about 25 years of RD going into 2 strokes. You would probably be looking at a CR250 making 60hp and weighing 195lbs.

    • @slayerfan209
      @slayerfan209 Год назад +2

      As much as I wish that were the case, it’s not reality. 2 strokes don’t have that much more room for development to get anywhere close to what you think. It did take an insane amount of work to get a 250 2 stroke even close to 60hp, let alone while only being 195lbs. Not even MXGP works bikes would be capable of those numbers. 250 2 strokes are only making 41-45hp stock. Even getting a new 450 to 60hp would take 1000s of dollars. The most powerful 450 doesn’t make more than 53hp stock even though the magazines lie about their dyno results. Don’t get me wrong,I’m a 2 stroke guy, I ride a YZ250 and a CR500, but even my 500 would need an exhaust and some porting to reach 60hp. I’m talking at the wheel not the crank like dirt bike magazine does when they say the new 450s are close to 60hp

But you know what? You still need double the displacement size to do what a much lighter and simpler system can do. I would tell you the opposite. You want a motorcycle that can do both? On average a 4 stroke cyl head alone costs 3 times more to buy & ebuild than any average 2 stroke complete motor. It's why I built a CRF150RB w a CR125 motor for my son. Lighter faster cheaper no valves to check & won't punch rods through cases

  • @patrickmeyer9905
    @patrickmeyer9905 Год назад +1

    4 strokes are maintenance hogs. If youre racing youre adjusting valves every other race or so. You say them being advanced is a pro but its a con in my books. Simple designs are more bulletproof because there less to go wrong. And having my whole bike computerized including no kickstart is not a pretty sight. If you need to rebuild a 2 stroke you can rebuild them on race day and go ride. A fourstroke takes a lot of disassembly and mechanical knowledge to take apart and put back together effectively making a typical father and son doing work on their bike a challenge. Lastly all of your riding critiques are personalized. Someone whos been raised on a 2 stroke or who mainly rides a 2 stroke will ride a 2 stroke better than a 4 stroke. Its the riding style you prefer in the end. The fact you cant carry momentum on a 300 two stroke out of all woods bikes shows your lack of riding skill on the bike. Also the 2 stroke is the do it all bud, try to take a 450 like youre saying in single track or tighter 2 track. Just start counting how many times you stall and overheat. And saying a 2 stroke mx bike cant compete on an mx track is some funny shit lmao

      I have 160 hours on my 19 KX450 with one rebuild. The valves have never been out of spec. Same with my 15 CRF450. Changed a piston at 100 hours on that. Valves in spec. Valves do wear like people think. I race Moto not trail riding

    • @patrickmeyer9905
      @patrickmeyer9905 Год назад

      @@stevesmith756 I would get 50 hours on valves same as a few buddies when racing. 50-100 hours for valves. If you change a piston at 100 hours on a fourstroke what the hells the point lol. I've put 100 on a 250 2 stroke easy. Hell my friend had a bike probably still does it's a 1998 cr250 and has 5 years on the top end. He's a weekend rider but damn he's out there riding every weekend and it hasn't choked

    4 strokes are the best bikes ever for beginners, novices and family ride events. Those with top physical condition who can keep the 2 stroke pinned with no lazy riding 4 stroke habits, you'll have the win every time, Just rebuilt my 2 stroke. New jug, top end lectron carb, $2,000. You could buy a new 2 stroke for the cost of replacing just the jug and valve train on 4 strokes. Absolutely ridiculous,. MG KTM also has great bikes as long as your not concerned with money, maintenance and time. KTM makes lots of money pushing the 4 stroke narrative, warehouses full of replacement parts.

    2bangas rule mate. They sound look are lighter cheaper and have nice powerband heaps more exciting to ride and motors can be repaired and serviced easily, with half the cc of 4strokes 2strokes have almost same power. Unless you're going for championship then 4stroke has ruined motocross. 500cc 2bangas got stopped as they said two much power. Then they double the cc of 4strokes against 2. Too many private tracks and secret riding areas have been shut because of noise complaints from wetfart 4s. No one used to know where we were riding. Bring back excitement to our sport and fan's will flock back. They can't handle listening to that constant loud noise and can't hear what individual riders are doing. Avagud1 mate think about it.
