I took a different approach and modified that front lever instead. Didn't do anything else just bent the rear hooked portion down very slightly and it worked first time. Careful not to bend too much otherwise it'll start actuating on the second to last shot. Try a full auto burst with 3-4 rounds in the magazine if it stutters on the last 2 shots or locks back with a bb still remaining you've bent it too much.
That’s interesting. I thought about modifying the front lever but decided to focus on the rear one. Very interesting nonetheless.
*Pinned* 😉
You should consider giving it a try. Much simpler, much more reliable, and much less frustrating solution I think.
I’ll certainly give it a shot. Thanks!
Update: I've spent a little time trying this out. Yep, its certainly an easier option than chopping springs and such.
I've tuned my mags to get by using the stock springs and I'm getting a rough 90% success rate. Sometimes it fails to lock, but the majority of the time it is a success.
I've ran into the issue where it locks up with 1 bb left in the magazine. As you say, bend it a little back and its on!
hello, first of all, great content, your channel is amazing, keep up the good work, second, i have purchased recently de hk 416a5 gbb of vfc, and i must say that it doesnt have any of the issues you mention in the video, apparently the new version corrects them all, the outer barrel is rock solid, the bolt locks back everytime(at least for the moment) and they have reinforced some of the weakspots, the only change i made was the hop up rubber for a maple leaf one. I hope this information helps others, i am speaking about the version 2 by the way
Thanks!
Yes. I’ve heard lots of good feedback from many people over the last year.
One or two users have experienced problems but the majority are positive.
@@BadaBingPictures Well let's hope vfc has learned from the past errors(I have a vfc block II forging series and the hop up it's a complete mess), I will continue testing the gun in the field, but for the moment I'm really happy with it
Hey, where did you buy it form? I'm thinking of purchasing the A5 but I want to steer clear of the bad batch
@@iota515 Powair6, a French Airsoft shop, they have a fast delivery to Europe, very recommendable shop, i do recommend using the hk416 gbb mags from vfc for the hk416a5 they work better, at least on my model

VFC, Very Frustrating Company
Haha! Exactly!
BadaBingPictures I wonder if you still would have bolt lock issues if you modded her to use GHK m4 mags? Honestly I’m shocked you haven’t done so already since you have a GHK. The efficiency of GHK is mags are supposed to a ton better then VFC anyways.
Love , hate relationship .....
On GBBR yes!
LOL
You are da Savior of VFC users
Thank you!
It’s a shame they need saving, lol!
That's what I was talking about...
I mean externally it is beautiful. But the internalswise it is the opposite unfortunately :(
I'm rolling with the Marui M4 and still will :)
Edit: and of course nice video Badabing :thumbs up:
Final solution: put something below the bolt catch release pin ( the pin that is operated by mag lever) and tighten togheter with heat shrink tubing for wire. Works 100%. 🤙
I tried gluing a strip of an old credit card to the underside of the catch pin but the loose tolerances on the magazine levers (where they were wobbling around) mine was never reliable.
I've solved mine perfectly bending down a little the lever on the rifle bolt catch, it works flawlessly, never had a single issue in an year
4:11 the best part :)
Korean airsoft gamers say 'VFC=Very fxxxing Company'
They never improved for years....
Tm is the best always..
to be fair, their newer stuff is way better than it used to be. the old internals from their gen 1 gbbs were garbage, the newer stuff is steel and relatively well functioning other than the crappy bolt carrier design
Great use of the Anvil Chorus! Choreography was on point too lol
Cheers bruv! 😉
Man after I had my next GBBR choices narrowed down to 3 (this VFC416 A5, TM MWS M4 ZET, or a GHK M4/Mk18) and then I watch this video. Budget wise I was leaning towards the A5, but now with the possibility of having issues out of the box I guess I’ll front a little more coin for better quality internals with either GHK or TM.
I just bought this gun but I do not have any problems with the bolt locking. However my copy was not without a flaw as I did have some issues with the hop-up adjustment. I had to take it apart and file the grooves in the front hop-up unit as the casting marks were still present. These caused it to seem very tight when rotating and since I didn't want to end up like you destroying it, I performed the surgery. Now it works great :)
You’re just like myself, messing around with every gbbr you get. I recently bought a TM m4 MWS and modified it the next day. It now runs with 370 vfc barrel (removed the bridge), ml nub and bucking and a KWA rocket valve(!). Shooting 450fps and 14rps.

Wow. I bet that was great to see that! I think it went well with the successful bolt locks, haha.
@@BadaBingPictures gonna try it, hope it will work.
Ahm, did you tried the following mods? Use them in WA M4s and WE M4s as solution.
- Magazine spring: use KJW M4 mags, you can order them from KJ directly. Not expensive and you won't trow out an AEG Mag because for the missing magazine spring. You can use any plastic as addictional compression on the weak magazine spring.
- Bend the Bolt catch latch also. I think it is also need to make the Bolt catch raise higher to catch the Bolt carrier in bigger surface.
- I often file down the Bolt catch in WA M4s where it touch the upper receiver, than the Bolt catch can catch the bolt carrier much higher. Worth to check it also.
- You can fill the hole in the Bolt catch lever part and drill a smaller hole, it will fit much better but I think it much better if you are print a new part - it will be around 1 hour to design this part and you can print as many you need.
I looked at modifying the bolt catch but it has enough up and down movement (with the upper receiver removed and a magazine inserted into the lower). So when magazine fires the last bb, the bolt catch does not quickly flick up and engage. It’s is slow and the bolt is already making its way back.
The tab at the back of the magazine would really benefit from being reproduced with a small hole. Even a little loose play on the lever, will not be positive enough to give the correct interaction with the bolt catch.
My old mid capacity magazines were broken anyway, so it all worked out well ;-)
Love the content !! Love the humorous too
Hi Jess,
Thanks! Glad you’re loving my stuff.
👍
BadaBingPictures thank you sir!
fancy reviewing the vfc hk416 gbb gen3 ive obtained one bramd new 😁🙏
Does the A5 have the same internals as the new gen 2 HK416? Seems like an unfortunate problem with VFC guns. The forged sopmod block II looked really interesting too. My WE gbbr scar may have internals breaking left and right but at least the design is functional and parts are available.
Yes. The A5 has the latest generation internals.
It’s a shame really as the A5 is the most usable VFC GBB I’ve owned so far. It’s just silly little things that have let it down.
People like to moan about WE, but as you say the basic design and functionality is bang on. Spare parts availability is also excellent.
In regards to VFC, they’re a little difficult to obtain.
BadaBingPictures As I know, VFC also offer customer service. You can order parts from them directly, as fro example from KJ Works.
Yes, I have received spares directly from VFC. It is nice being able to get parts direct from them, at the same time it would be nice for them to be more readily available. Like GHK for example.
BadaBingPictures Agreed. GHK much better out of box but the build quality of VFC way better. The first batch of GHKs also had issues like this, I think this issue will gone soon.
If you wrap the shrink tube in the bolt stop that connects to the magazine, the bolt stop works well, and if the VFC GBB buffer is a little longer, cut 5mm, it will take more bolt stop.
My friend has the Asia edition and it locks back every time. He told me they fixed it on that model.
Yes. The asian edition has been out for a little while and they fixed the issues that this model was known for.
If only it didn’t need fixing in the first place but that’s VFC for you.
ha ha ha :))))) I love you and I love this video !
Seems that shimming the bolt stop were the magazine engagement is a must and doing mag mods to give positive force in junction to said shimming might help without having to limit round count. I also thinks that modified ghk mags might work well if not better then the vfc ones I hear a lot of good things from ghk.
I actually got the Asian Market version in RAL8000, having no problems with it so far. :)
How can i know which version is the Asian market version and the Europe market version?
@@YAVV92 The Asian market version removed some of the issues people experienced with the European version, usually being a slight wobble to the stock/barrel and the bolt not locking back at all in some cases. Bolt locking issues aren't as extreme as experienced in the EU version, but they can still happen if you get a defective product. You can return it, and ask to get one that works properly. :)
@@dave_riots Thanks!!
@@YAVV92 No problem! :)
The EU version lacks some of the HK proofmarkings on the upper receiver that the Asian version has.
You can tell by looking at the one in my videos, or photos on EU retailers and comparing to images you see on sites like WGCshop. That’s a visual indication.
👍
I have the European series HK416A5 so i am lucky about this issue. but its not mean that i am all free about magazine. I tried the PMAG-looking magazine first, but it was pretty bad. it has even this problem and It has already started to smuggle gas from the first week. I have to buy the new magazine and I will buy 3. But I'm still undecided about what I should get. Which magazine do you think you would recommend except for its stock magazine? Another question is, does umarex / KWA HK416D GBB 40Rds Magazine fit like its own stock magazine? Thank you Badabing ! i will buy after your recommed. ( Oh btw, i am still waiting a video about TM FNX 45 but its another topic )
LOL 4:00 XD haha still smexy A5 must gettt
Haha!
I will look forward to seeing the A5 on your channel 😉
BadaBingPictures That's the channel I introduced you! You two are underrated RUclipsrs! Keep on !
Just got the 416D. Ready for the problems. How was your experience with the GHK Mags? Did it help the bolt catch issue at all? I gotta get a whole bunch of mags now but dont know if I should get teh VFC Vmag or GHK Gmag? ANy help is greatly appreciated!
Congrats on your purchase. You shouldn’t see any issues with their AR GBBR’s at this stage as they’ve ironed out much of the flaws.
The GHK mags weren’t directly compatible. The valves weren’t being activated properly as they were too long for the valve striker. You’d need to modify them or the trim the valve striker.
Perhaps it’s best staying with VFC mags.
@@BadaBingPictures Appreciate it Badabing! Im unfortunately in for problems. Had to get mine used because its not for sale anywhere new in the US and its a 416 Gen 2 so im probably screwed, but im gonna make the best of it and try to just perfect it far as it can go. D you know how to make the cycling smoother on the 416? It sounds very inconsistent and would like to try and get to at least be more consistent like a ghk? Any insight is appreciated!
Gen 2 is a recent generation to be fair.
Check your magazines and see if they are a later version. If you carefully remove the plastic upper, the rubber gas route should tell you which version they are. Their magazines have seen several versions, so you want the newer ones and that should guarantee you better performance.
Consistency was fine on my A5 and that was gen2 pattern. Make sure you’re getting a good gas fill to begin with. You can do this by making sure the gas bottle is warmer than the magazines before you charge them. If the mags are cooler than the gas bottle you will hear the liquid gas spill into the gas tank a little louder than if both vessels were stored in the same place.
Then charge about 10seconds and see how it shoots then.
@ BadaBingPictures I should have asked you initially as soon as I bought this gun last month about the the magazines.....BOTH mags I got for the gun SPRAY and LEAK gas nonstop.....do you know all exact tools, sizes, and especially all hex key sizes the magazines need?? I cannot decipher the base plate screws on the 416A5 GEN2 mags.
I don’t know the specific sizes. I just have a box full of different keys and use whatever fits.
I don’t own VFC 416 or the mags so I can’t remember the takedown process.
@@BadaBingPictures I am confused I watched a few videos of yours. Did you demo this gun for a friend? I thought this was yours?
@@grayman1 I don’t own this GBBR anymore. I sold it in 2018, I think. It was a long time ago.
@@BadaBingPictures ah ok thank you! I see you are really enjoying your MP5s. I literally finally decided to invest in the VFC MP5 V2 and then it sold out everywhere......go figure. And I am sure it is worth upgrading to give it the best edge and durability out of it.
How I feel when using my kwa lm4 😅 Someone needs to design a bolt catch that goes up as high as the real steel... would never fail.
People keep complaining about vfc guns. That's why last year I got a Marui mp7 even though vfc would be the correct size.
I wondered if the buffer has any sliding weight in it. The weight will slightly increase the time that the bolt stays at the rear and give more time for the bolt catch to rise.
Yes it comes with the weight within the buffer as standard.
Along with the little mods to the rear mag lever (as shown in this video) and carefully bending the front lever that connects with the bb follower (recommended via a suggestion within the comments), it’s has solved the locking issues.
I fixed the problem the spring tention of the bolt catch is to Much if you remove the spring in de bolt catch lever then the magazine has enough power to lift the catch that worked for me after that i cut few coils of that tiny spring en put iT back works like a charm (BADABING )
Hi,
I tried using this technique by using a smaller spring but it did not work. :-(
BadaBingPictures then the lip that touches the magazine you can tweak the snapping Action of the lip (i mean the lip of the bolt catch inside of the magwell (you have to give the magazine Some snapping room ) maten that can work as well i forgot to mention ) that. Was not correct by mine
Weird thing is since I have replaced the BCG in my M27 I have never had the bolt catch fail on me. Perhaps the old pre-V2 magazines have stiffer/less wobbly catches in them?
Yes, I have heard the older gen magazines don’t have or have very little problems with bolt lock. One A5 user I know has been using them instead of the new ones.
Just took the top off of one my mags to check. There is a tiny amount of play in the catch, but not nearly as much as your magazine. I don't see why the new magazines have more play, as far as I can tell the design for the bolt catch is identical and would have thought they would just use the same parts and moulds.
Have you check the bolt catch leaver, maybe it isn't "free" enough to engage the bolt. I don't know if you ever try to do a test with pressing the bolt catch..maybe the bolt isn't full travelling. Try out to break down the gun and insert the magazine and see how fall the leavers up...
Yes. The bolt catch has plenty of movement, it just doesn’t jump up to lock the bolt in time because of such a weak force from the magazine spring.
I’ve been working on this problem since October last year and the solutions I have in this video are the only ones that have worked.
I have tried swapping out the recoil springs and buffer. But the results are marginal and with no more degree of success than the original VFC parts.
The GHK magazines don’t have much luck in engaging the bolt catch either.
The solutions I have done within this video are among the ones with the highest degree of success and 95% it locks back as it should.
Which is better than 0% when I first bought the rifle.
Hi does this gun have 14mm ccw threads?
Did you have to do any modification to the gmags to make them work in the a5? It seems that the gas release pin is too long for the gun causing the gas to all release at once when i put a gmag in
On the A5 I owned the GMAG’s cycled but it wasn’t activating the valves properly. As you say they are too long.
You can choose to file the GHK valves to the same length, so the striker to valve connection is the identical measurement of travel of the VFC magazine. Or go the other way and take some meat off the rifle’s firing pin, however you could only use GHK mags from that point onwards. (Probably the method I would choose)
@@BadaBingPictures Ah, that's what I was thinking, I'll probably make the mags work for the gun rather than the other way around, thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering if it was just a me problem lol
Hey Badabing you got any ideas to fix the Barrel wobble some A5s have ?
Hi bud,
I don’t have anything I could recommend. I sold the rifle over 2 years ago and at the time I didn’t look for a solution for that because I was given a custom barrel stabiliser that followed the contours of the internal rail system, and this locked the barrel in place.
I don’t think the guy that gave it to me makes Airsoft parts anymore.
Sorry.
Previous "fix" didn't work as well as hoped. Round two:
1) Squeezed the aft magazine lever as you did in the video
2) Added a small amount of material to the bottom of the bolt catch arm where the magazine lever contacts
3) Switched to a weaker buffer spring and used a RS H buffer with a few mm of material removed to render it shorter than the VFC buffer. I think this combination is buying the catch more time to engage
So far, it's worked 100%
It’s completely unnecessary for us to go to all this trouble just to make the bolt lock work.
Although I’m glad you’ve got there 👍
@@BadaBingPictures No kidding, this level of tweaking is ridiculous. I just couldn't bring myself to sell it at a massive loss as the mags would have to go with it.
With this fix and the addition of the TNT hop up set, it's a great skirmish toy now. It might be a little more competitive than my stock MWS
@@mkcsu27 hey man what buffer did you replace it with. im not familiar with RS H Buffer.
@@princesscat_3015 RS as in real steel AR15 buffer, H weight
What Iv come across is the bolt lock release spring is too strong for this I cut only one link off the spring and stretched it till it worked flawlessly the spring is not light enough to allow the follower in the mag to push up
My point exactly we shouldn’t have to do any of this all this money that we pay for these things and they either break or they have these stupid little problems all that engineering and you basically are stuck with a plug to a point. But I still love it can’t stop won’t stop
This is why I’ll remove the bolt release once I get a gbbr M4
thank you for your helpful information, 1 question. is it possible to use vmag on ghk m4?
You are welcome.
You can probably use the VMAG in the GHK but it will work much better with GHK’s own GMAG.
BadaBingPictures yeah. I would like to but I have bunch of vmag have to use in someway LOL. I’ll very appreciate if u can test vmag on ghk m4.
Haha. I would like to test but I’d be out £50 if it doesn’t work...so no thanks lol.
BadaBingPictures I mean Vfc mag on Ghk m4.. sorry for bothering you lol
No bother at all. :-)
I tried the VFC 416 magazine in the GHK. The rifle cycles but not as well as the original GHK.
The striker doesn’t make a positive connection with the valve. The VFC valve is not as long as GHK’s, so you would either need to make the GHK firing pin longer, or VFC valve longer to make a good connection.
Long story short you are better off with GHK mags. They work perfectly and are generally better than the VFC magazines. That’s why you see VFC owners convert their rifles to use GHK mags.
From my experience it might have to do with the buffer spring. I use GHK GMAGs and the basicly do the same thing, cathing the bolt once when the stars align and putting something on the bolt catch lever to raise it with more power doesn't seem to fix it. :P What I noticed with high FPS recording that when the bolt goes back the bolt catch DOES go up BUT it also goes down in an instant, seemingly from the recoil?
Also did you find any good soluitons for the outer barrel wobble?
MadDragon yes what i have done is that de 4 screws on the outer barrel that connects with the hop up unit are tigh en locktighted end then i put a rubber o ring in the barrel nut to pres the hop up unit more on the receiver
I hope that its gonne work for you for me iT did
I actually did exactly that but it made little difference unfortunately. :/
Hmm o i forgot Next because of the gas block if i shimmed my gas block tight in the front rail then in doesnt wobble tho i did that exacly o Hope iT works for you
Hi! could You please advise where to buy a mid-cap magazine spring that would fit for this "upgrade"? :) preferably in Europe.
Hi
I got mine from some old AEG mid capacity magazines that I had in my parts bin. I’m not sure where you would find them being sold on their own.
Try searching for AEG magazine springs through google, and used the advanced settings to search within your region.
@@BadaBingPictures I already tried this option but thanx anyway. Will look to buy used magazines. One more idea - I saw someone to sell VFS MP7 magazine spring - do You think it could fit? The mp7 is a 40 round magazine so I asume the spring is longer...
How can I tear appart the V-Mag (plastic) there is a leakage and ffs I cant find anything on how to tear it appart?!
@Badabingpictures does the ghk mag fit the vfc?
It fits yes. But either the release valve on the GHK needs to be filed off a few millimetres or the VFC valve striker needs to be filed for a positive activation
I have a same issue. But mine when the bb is empty the bolt is locked but after release the mag the bolt catch can’t hold the bolt. I think the engagement between bolt and bolt lock has already wear out
is that with GEN 2 . Does the GEN 3 still have those issues ?
This is the Gen 2. Sadly the bolt lock issues still exist on the Gen 3.
@@BadaBingPictures I see, because i was trying different npas setting with the gen 3 and the bolt was not locking back after an empty mag but i thought maybe that it was because there was too much energy given to the BB and not enough for the Bolt ?
does someone know how to take apart a vmag v2?please i need to swap the leaking valve but i can only remove the bb chamber:(:(:(:(:(:(S.O.S.
Are these problems still persisting? If I buy an A5 in 2023 will this problem be there?
As far as I hear from the community VFC fixed these early problems.
@@BadaBingPictures nice!!! Going to order this bad boy! Thx.
were u using first gen mags or the new one?
These are the Gen 2 HK style magazines
Ho shiat
I am actually thinking about KWA 416D or this one
I'd buy the VFC version instead of the KWA. I heard lots of negative feedback on the KWA rifle.
This problem has nothing to do with the magazine! There is a simple solution to bolts not locking back in all M4 type GBBr's. The problem is a stiff little spring behind the bolt catch lever on the rifle. Just take out this spring. Now try again and watch your bolt locking every time. Leave the spring out or cut it in half and put it back. That's it, your bolt will lock every time guaranteed!
Isn't this the kwa version?
Nope. VFC. You
is it still good after your modification?
I don’t know how it is now, I sold it months ago.
But it was working 9 times out of 10 before I sold it.
Try to smooth out the flash on those levers on magazines. They are stamped part, not very smooth on all edges. Most of manufacturers are not care about this little details but affecting the performance quite alot.
I have a 416C before, just smooth them out and more bending on the rear lever then worked fine. But faced other problem such as insufficient blow back and inconsistent rate of fire. Quite a headache, but solved and sold.
Again, very fxxking company, cannot shoot is normal.
My 416D GBBR never failed a bolt lock once, with, stock BCG, nor with the latest version BCG and now with Z-parts BCG no problems what so ever. Only had 2 nozzle stop failures hence now upograded to a steel BCG.
Guess it's only a thing on the A5's???
I’ve never heard of bolt lock issues with the 416D variants. Seems to be just the early A5’s that suffered from bolt lock problems.
How the fuck im already using a 40cm aeg mag spring and the bolt catch still dont works
Fortunately, I didn't have any barrel wobble or bolt locking issues with my Asia ver. 416A5 that I got a few days ago(FINALLY!!!)
They might have improved the internals or something :)

Hey Berserker.
That’s great to hear you haven’t had any issues. They’ve obviously refined it for the Asian release.
But it should have been like that when it was originally brought to the European market, no?
Their whole process really stinks.
Do you know if yours has the improved Hop up which features a removable steel pin that holds the HU lever?
BadaBingPictures they did there is now a v2 of it in the shop
