It's looking great Chris! looking forward to the rest of this build!
Glad to see you back, hope everything is going well for you. Great work as always and really impressive
Outstanding work as always. It's a real joy watching you work on these kits.
I have a cool story for you. I saw BLUE THUNDER at a preview in Hollywood. About a week after I saw it I was at Long Beach airport taking pictures of planes. I noticed a Gazelle parked on the ramp of Wright helicopters. I went in the office and asked permission to take some pictures. The guys said yeah go thru the hanger. Well inside the hanger was Blue Thunder and its twin. The hero version had the modified cockpit and the stunt version didnt have all the monitors installed. So I took all kinds of photos of both birds. After seeing your post Im trying to find them but I have moved several times and I have a feeling Ive lost them.
That would be a nice treasure for you if you find em
Blue Thunder was one of my favourite movies from my youth. I personally think with the advance in special effects it's well overdue a remake ... as long as the remake isn't as bad as the remake of Red Dawn! I could see the model kit manufacturers going mad over the modified Gazelle.
Welcome back! I really enjoy your builds, Chris!
It’s been awhile! What unbelievable skills, patience and product knowledge you have!
What a cool project. It looks great, Chris. I totally forgot about that movie! I probably haven’t seen it since it came out. May need to watch it!
A kit from my youth!! Great job !!! Looking for the rest
Hah! I was just rememberinf this kit back in the 80s. Kmart had it on clearance and I swooped in and bought it. It looked amazing next to my Monogram huey and Cobra gunsgip! Still love this kit. I might buy one and super detail it...
Simply amazing!
J.A.F.O. here, watching this build.
🤣
I've wanted this kit for an age. Such a cool helicopter and really built on a Gazelle! So cool.
Awesome! I really enjoy seeing people build model kits. Gives me hope that the hobby is well and still alive! Awesome video and what a great job. Thank you for sharing Sir🫡
Fantastic work Chris! I can't wait to see the finished model.
Beautiful
Blue Thunder was the greatest altered movie chopper of the 80s. The movie studio took an Aerosptatiale Gazelle and added a cool cockpit, canopy, altered intakes and exhausts, and 20mm turret to it. I liked BT way more than the quasi-Hinds made from Pumas or Sea Kings in movies like Firefox, Red Dawn, Red Scorpion, and Rambo 2 and 3.
The comment about blur thunder being nose heavy was no joke. All that extra weight gave the Gazelle’s turboshaft a lot of trouble trying to lift it. Also it all had to be FAA approved as the chopper was an actual flying prop.
Liquid electrical tape! I was looking for that but I didn't know the name. Thank you!
Great stuff. I use it often
Your Blue Thunder model build, NICE! Your lighting detail, OUTSTANDING.
Several years back, at a flea market I found the Blue Thunder helicopter toy. It was in rough shape, painted black, with GI Joe stickers on it. I stripped the black paint. Touched-up painted it back to its original blue color, and touch-up painted the outer shell of the cockpit, according to the movie scenes. I put on the, "02" military decal on the engine cowlings.
The rear of the starboard landing strut is slightly broken, and I'm looking for the part for that. Other than that, I feel like I accomplished something. It looks good though.
Exceptional work with the lighting, looks legit!!
The Infrared cameras used in Blue Thunder were kind of an inspiration for the Predator's Mask HUD when you think about it, too.
Looks fantastic!
This video popped up on my YT list, and WOW... I'm SO impressed with your skills! You have a new subscriber now!!
Blue Thunder was also the inspiration for the Sega arcade and console game "Thunder Blade".
Timely post. I've got one in the stash and I was musing this weekend whether to build it or sell it. Your efforts are inspirational. I might hang on to it a bit longer.
That is amazing!
Excellent!
Salutations from Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
Great work Chris on the lighting. I built this kit a few years back, no lighting but I added some crew figures. Still have it on my shelf, I did find that the decals broke up in places, especially the red pinstripe decals.
Yes!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I think the scene where Roy Scheider solos 2 F-16s with the chin turret and combat maneuvering was the inspiration for Hideo Kojima to have Liquid Snake do the same thing with a Hind-D in Metal Gear Solid.
Great work! Liked and subscribed.
There's some ancient plastic.
Another scene reused in another movie from Blue Thunder is Roy Scheider's helo dogfight with Malcolm McDowell in an armed OH-6 Cayuse. The same enemy chopper and dogfight was recycled into the Nicholas Cage movie "Firebirds". An AH-64A Apache was substituted for Blue Thunder in that case.
Hey Chris. Little tip or maybe you already know. Harbor Freight has mini diamond drill bits. I use those to drill tiny spots. They work great. This is my first time watching your channel. Really cool video man
@@jamesmaroon6161 I did not know Harbor Freight has diamond tip bits. Have to see if they have a small as .25 mm
@@modelsbychris When you go into the store they are over where the drill bits are on that right hand side wall. They are in a white semi clear container. In that they have .10mm to 30mm. Have fun bro
@@jamesmaroon6161 thanks
For someone who has never sculpted before, you did a good job! I had this model back in high school and loved it!
BTW, was there ever an update to finding your stolen models?
No. But I replaced most of them. Still sucks. Especially the stolen home videos
Super nice work! Just subbed as well. Have a great week.

Blue thunder or Airwolf, after all these decades even now i still can't decide 🤔
Airwolf was definitely cool as well
BLUE THUNDER!!
Airwolf had the speed and armament advantage
amazing work congratulation. Would it be possible to you share the photoshop images of the screen grabs?
I'll try to put a link in the notes tonight.
@@modelsbychris many thanks
@@mauromalito5653 File link in the notes.
The funny thing about Blue Thunder was that it was more of an ELINT and recon helicopter rather than a gunship. The whole point of the movie was to warn about the military industrial complex selling paramilitary and police agencies uber-weapons like Blue Thunder for nefarious means and oppression. Who needs a chopper when General Atomics Reapers and Boeing Global Hawks do the same job without pilots in cockpits?
Did you try using two layers of the neutral whatsit?
I did. I also have different densities. Started darkening it too much. For me anyway.
Don’t forget about the aoshima kit also in 1/32
True, although that kit is slightly smaller at 1/48.
Yay!!!! First!!!
“Catch you later”
So you're the one who outbid me. Lol.
4:17 What kind of bottle/applicator is this for your superglue? I've never seen that one before?
Love em. Those are photo etch glue applicator tips called Loopers from Creative Dynamic.

@@modelsbychris THANKS!!
Wow that's tiny DC wiring. 24 Gauge? Did you need 3V or 9V as a power supply?
30 gauge wire. Currently, I'm powering with a 9v battery for testing. Ultimately, it'll power with 5v USB.
I learned so much from this video. How did you print the screens and graphics?🫡
Just from my computer on photo paper. The files are in my notes
