- This time I have filmed the new 585HP Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG (R231) in action on the drag strip. It did some drag races between other cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT S, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

In fact, SL63 AMG is not the kind of car suited for the race but it is more like Grand Touring oriented car with extreme comforts
its a very comfortable car, not as sporty as some cars, but sporty enough when you want it to be.... has a split personality.
I own an one identical to the one shown in the video and I totally agree with you. My attraction to it is because when you want to cruise around roof down, it’s beautiful. When you want to terrorise everyone within earshot, it does that like crazed axe murderer. Amazing how MB & AMG managed to squeeze both personalities into one car. I’d never own a GT3 or similar due to the tremendous compromise increasing performance has on everyday comforts. The SL retains blistering performance as well as every conceivable luxury. 👍🏻

Marko M I get that, but why would they put an AMG performance engine in there if it isn't meant to perform? they could just make a 43 AMG instead of a 63 AMG, and now that they introduced the new inline six for the 53 AMG, they could just put that in the SL will be plenty fast
Marko M I don't think you get the whole aspect of a performance engine, the Audi rs7 is a performance car, it is meant to perform against super fast saloons, and the m70li isn't really a performance car it just used a revised rolls Royce v12 engine, hense it doesn't need an M engine

Problem with SL63 is too much HP and torque for those 285's. It should have 315's minimum and stickier tires. I cannot launch mine properly.

Why does Mercedes make their SL series cars so damn slow. Its getting beaten by a car with 85 less hp and the same car would even beat the sl65.
More luxury than performance I guess
The GT3RS sounds much better. You can't really hear the sl65. The turbos mute the exhaust almost completely.
