    It never occurred to me at the start that I should not like the Amazon paper. As a result I just got on with it. Some pencils work better than others. I try to make a note in the book somewhere. I really don't mind it at all. I think the idea that the paper is bad has scared some people away from trying different things. I love books. I don't want a folder full of PDFs. I find the harder pencils work best. I love Procolour pencils on Amazon paper, it layers really well with a light hand.

    Another thing you could do on amazon paper is using watercolor pencils and then a tombow colorless blender to activate the watercolor pencils, especially if you do it in sections then the paper doesnt crinkle so much with a colorlessblender.. Its what I do. Can always go over with dry pencil then to do shading once it is fully dry.

      I know lots of people have had luck with this technique, but for some reason it’s just not one I prefer. It definitely can work for some though. Thanks for mentioning it☺️

    Thank you for this! I confess, i threw out my amazon paper books. I couldn't get on with the paper and, personally, if i'm colouring I prefer to colour in my more loved, higher-quality paper books and have an easier time. But I admire your skill and patience to be able to use this paper! -Robyn

    Useful tips, thank you. I find the Ohuhu water-based brush markers pil the Amazon paper, otherwise I'd use them more. I like a challenge sometimes, if I have the time, which you mention, it does take time on this paper, and I've been cutting corners LOL Thank you for sharing all your cute pages 🥰

    I enjoyed this video quite a bit because sometimes I feel like I've become the official defender of Amazon paper LOL I just prefer coloring in the actual book vs a printed page. It definitely is a matter of personal preference but for whatever reason when I hear people just trashing the Amazon paper it gets me irked somewhat because you can do beautiful work in those books, it just takes work and time. I almost always just use pencils, although sometimes I will put markers down first, but if I really want to do my best job it's pencils only. My collection is probably 90% Amazon printed books and I couldn't be happier with them. I watch videos from Chris Cheng a lot and when she colors her own artwork the paper is extremely toothy but by the time she's done there is no white all ages showing and everything looks so smooth. Not that I'm any Chris Cheng by a longshot, just an observation LOL So thanks for sharing this with us!

    I do the same as you and slip a sheet of card under the page even on better quality paper, but on Amazon paper I use wild spiders 12" wide fine double sided sticky paper ( comes on a long roll) and stick the card to the back of the Amazon page. No mess and seems to work with quite a few different media, but I still don't over wet the paper.

    What a fun video. Thank you for doing this. Have you tried Panpastels or regular pastels as a base? I haven't tried it on Amazon paper yet, but have tried Panpastels in other books. After spraying the fixative, it gives the surface a bit of texture so it seems to help the pencil go down easier.

    • @Elmcolors
      @Elmcolors  Год назад

      I only have a few pan pastels and have not used them at all 🤦🏻‍♀️ I do on occasion use soft pastels, usually as a background or to fill in larger areas. I’ll have to try it out though with the fixative applied. Thanks ☺️

    The alcohol marker/Prisma combo is one of my favorite ways to color regardless of paper.. in fact it's what I use exclusively in my Mythographic books which are my jewels of my collection, and they have fabulous paper that will take almost anything. It's faster, easier on the hands, and looks amazing in the end. I've tried a lot of other pencil brands but none seem to work with the marker as well as Prisma, probably due to the opacity as well as the blendability. I've wondered about Pablo, I've heard they are very opaque as well, but haven't tried them yet. Most of the other brands I own are more transparent, and while they do ok going darker than the marker, if I go lighter it's streaky or doesn't show up at all.

    The problem I have with Amazon paper is you just never know what you are going to get. Some are great, some are ok.. and some are just horrid. It's not just the paper either sometimes the printing is terrible... fuzzy or streaky. The streaks can be really obvious with black backgrounds and I haven't found a way to actually fix it.. even black marker won't cover it up in a way that it looks solid and smooth after. I had a Coco Wyo book that was so awful I threw it away, and it's scared me for buying Amazon books in the future unless I see a good flipthrough first and know it's better paper. It was extremely soft pressed, with an obvious grey cast and a weird orange peel texture, it just looked awful and pencils simply slid around on it. It was like the super cheap recycled paper they gave us at school to do handwriting practice on when I was little. At the same time the paper in the Matchstick Mouse books is fabulous and I haven't run into a pencil yet that doesn't do well with it. According to Amazon they should be the same but are worlds away from each other.

    Haha. Erica, you are not alone. I don't like pink mouse tails either, they freak me out as well. I love the Matchstick Mouse books but if I am being honest I have seen the tails colored pink and I don't know if I can do it. LOL 😆I know I don't have to color them pink, but the way he draws them they would have to be pink. At least for me, that is the way my mind works. I'm sure I sound stupid saying this, but it's true. 😄 I haven't really had an issue with Amazon paper. For my coloring style it seems to be ok for me, but yes it is more work. Of course I prefer better paper, but I find my Polychromos and Pablos work well together on it. I will say I absolutely love the Christine Karron paper though. For some reason I find it works really well for me. i really enjoy coloring on it. Can I also say how jelly I am of how long your Poly's are. I use mine so much they all look like stubs. 😄
