I didn't realise how small this fan was, until you picked it up. What a little gem it turned out to be. I like the guard you fabricated. It certainly looks the part.
@@AcmeRestorations I found old fans work so well, if they don't wobble. And no doubt 100 years from now your fan will still be working - and by then a true museum piece. I would love to get my hands on a pancake fan, but they are so rare and when they are available, cost so much - oh, just a few thousand. And I'm not rich, but I'm not paying thousands for a fan, no matter how unique, cool or ancient. Besides when I croak, my stupid family would either throw it out, or sell it for $25.00, not having a clue of its true value.

The whole reason I started watching these types of videos was because I like old fans. I didn’t wanna spend $1000 for a fan that barely works when I can spend a fraction, or nothing, and just restore it myself. Now I’m obsessed with this stuff and would kill to have a workshop filled with every tool imaginable.

This is a fine & beautiful restoration. It is fascinating to see what splendid products were made in the USA one hundred years ago. Thank you for this video.
Beautiful work. My Mechanics level fussbudgetry. And that is a good thing. The care taken with the brush caps, fabricating the cage and meticulously shaping the badge edges... delicious to watch.
I have already imagined how someone repairs a Chinese fan in 100 years. Therefore, I never tire of repeating - the most reliable technique is the one where there are no plastic parts at all. This is especially true for modern kitchen appliances. Professional kitchen appliances only made of metal, no plastic.
Great work, those small antique fans with the metal blades can push quite a bit of air and will last a long time if properly cared for, I love how you fabricated the guard yourself!
Beautiful work, turned out great. I have this fan, was given to me by my step-grandfather many years ago and I always thought the blades were brass. I was trying to clean it up today and it turns put they are steel. Your video inspired me to give it a much better cleaning, thanks
I live about 3/4 of a mile south of Boeing Field, and also in the flight path of Seatac airport. Then there are the helicopters from the local trauma hospital 1/2 a mile away. I usually don't notice it until I am editing the video. Yeah, it's like a plane every 90 seconds. Thanks for watching.
Looks great and an excellent job restoring it and making the guard!! I know it moves a lot of air being from the 20's Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
100 year old fan cleaned up and well done i might add, now lets see the plastic crap made today in 100 years if it will do the same=no there is no quality left in society that discards everything, this is a beautiful testament to doing things right
Just curious and I respect if you wish to not answer however what do you do with all these items you restore? Is this a hobby, a business or do you trade? Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills and beautiful work. It’s great to see some of these old memories come alive again.

Very good friend. Congratulations.
Very nicely done. I was unaware that A.C. Gilbert made anything other than toys until now.
@@NipkowDisk Yeah, these were made in the same factory. Apparently the motor is a modification of the Erector Set motor.
Nice video but your captions are hard to read. Black letters on black background is not readable.
What do you do with all the stuff you restore cuase some of it like this fan could easily be stored away but you've restored some relatively big stuff
i like how turned out the guard...good job👌
Thanks.

I have a little Artic Aire fan like this in the bathroom. The old Artic Aire fans, especially the big ones really push a lot of air.
@@kfl611 Yeah a LOT of air for a 6" fan.

Thank you for using a braided electric cord. I see so many restorations done but they replace the original braided cord with a non-braided one.
Out of curiosity, what is the difference btw the braided and non-braided cords?

Fraction, or nothing, if you already have all those expensive tools required to repair stuff
Beautiful work. Fan guard even looks period correct. Love it.

Thank you for this video.
Very nicely done. Love these little fans, they move so much air surprisingly. Nice you gave its name back to finish the cage.
Thank you very much! Yes I was surprised by how much air this fan moves.

Thanks a ton!
A thing of Beauty, thanks for posting.
You need to find some green felt goes on bottom of stand ,to keep from scratching the table and protects the wiring.
Ordered and still waiting on delivery. But, you are right on. Green felt. Thanks for watching.
Nice one!..... Another bit of kit restored and not confined to landfill. Vreat job!.

Hard to go back to plastic!
Nice job on that collectible little Polar Cub
This was such a joy to watch, especially making the blade cover from scratch and the name plate. Beautiful job on the end result.

Wow such a cute little fan.
Our dad rewound motors like that as a side job when we were growing up. We used fans like that❤️
There's a skill not many people have any more. I'm sure I'll need to do that at some point on some project. Thanks for watching.

You did an excellent job as always. After this video I am even more convinced you live on an air field.

Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Many thanks!. LOTS of air.
I find your skill level and precision to be ridiculously awesome!
Thank you so much!
No strain relief on the power cord. You need to add an electrician's knot at least in the base. Nice jig for making the fan guard!
Bel lavoro! Hai pure una bella attrezzatura! Bravo!
If objects had souls, that fan would be weeping as if it was given a divine miracle.
Greetings buddy, cool project, excellent restoration and beautiful result 👍
