There were a lot of Korean versions of Netflix even before it was popularised in the US (streaming Korean tv shows online with a membership) and the demand of American contents in Korea is pretty low compared to English speaking countries like Canada, UK, Australia, NZ and etc. so it's not that weird. Most of the contents consumed in Korea is domestically produced, especially TV, and it takes a lot of time and work to translate all the shows they have in their library (at least all the originals + some other shows?) so it's not a wonder that Netflix just came to Korea.
