- Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is an N64 action-adventure platforming video game, that was developed and published by Konami for the Nintendo 64. It was released in 1999 and is a prequel and expanded version of Castlevania 64, also released on the Nintendo 64 earlier the same year. It contains a remake of the original game with improved graphics, added villains, and alternate versions of some levels.

Thank you wills
I was about to comment that Glenn was still here but focusing more on his SwitchUp videos. For the past few years I thought Glenn Plant and Glen Bolger were the same person 😅
@@Robotoda2000 hah can you imagine 😂 sadly my health took a bad turn about 2 years ago which is why I had to step back
honestly what my thoughts were when i saw he uploaded
@n64glennplant You doing better now?
Good to see you back Glenn. The gold standard for N64 reviews!
Thank you that means a lot to me
Always happy to see you again Glenn! Nobody covers N64 games like you do 🤘
I appreciate that! Also have plans for something quite new next year health permitting
Yeah Glenn is absolutely the greatest N64 reviewer of all time. He should be a voice over guy for Nintendo.
@@n64glennplant Glenn great to see you back. What about a video N64 games given a new lease of life with cheat codes, normal in game cheats and Gameshark/Passport cheats?
Not only Glenn is back.
He reviews one of my favourites
It’s a shame that not more people experienced LOD as it’s a decent package
@@n64glennplantIt's a shame that it's one of the most expensive N64 games. You're probably looking at 300 quid minimum for a boxed copy in decent nick :(
I know there's emulation n all but still.
I've always appreciated the second chance we got with Castlevania Legacy of Darkness, it fixed many issues i had the first game, and it's a meaty content rich game, it's just a bummer that Konami didn't have the foresight giving the team the time to work on the title from the very start.
I'm saying this because so many of the gaming friends i knew completely ignored Castlevania LoD because of Castlevania 64. It definitely hurted it's reputation.
Which of the 2 do you prefer?
Swapping Legacy of Darkness for Gauntlet Legends was the only good thing Castlevania on the N64 ever did for me.
@@n64glennplant I much prefer Castlevania LoD compared to Castlevania 64 without doubt, i know i am in the minority of people who appreciate the 3D Castlevania entries like Castlevania LoD, Castlevania Lament of innocence and Castlevania Curse of Darkness.
Legacy Of Darkness with the action cam setting is perfect it basically becomes a Zelda style game
My eyes lit up when I saw that you posted a review. I read through the comments before posting, and I, like many others, are so grateful to see you again.
Keep up the awesome work. You rock, good sir!
I totally agree 😂 nice to see so many people stuck around waiting on my return
@@n64glennplant Some things are well worth waiting for.
Welcome back Glenn!, you have been missed! I only ever played Casltevania 64 and because I was not a huge fan of it at the time, I never played this version but with all the changes and updates looks like I may have missed out. Bummer the game is incredibly expensive nowadays, but I will eventually add it to my collection. Excited to see more reviews!
Yeah it’s nuts how much this costs to own physically these days. I remember when it was easy to get hold of
Everdrive is your friend...
Emulation to the rescue! I recommend Simple64
Nice to have you back mate, your videos really scratch that nostalgic itch for me.
And that’s especially useful when there’s a European bed bug infestation 😀
Just as the weather is getting colder and the nights longer, Glenn Plant swoops back in to lighten up our evening! Another superb and comprehensive review, as always
Rock on!
Well put
hands down best gaming channel on youtube. the people appreciate your return in this key point!
What have I missed? 😂
I agree with the comments below, it's good to know that the #1 in N64 reviews is back. Today is a big day for the fan community, we have been waiting for this return for a while. And it's good to know you're okay, Glenn. Greetings from 🇦🇷
Thanks - now give me the World Cup 😂

Glad you like them! Have some more already in the pipeline
The legend returns! Great to see you back in action Glenn!
Thanks feels nice to see so much positive vibes still here
Got a flashcart for my N64 (that I had since 97) 2 years ago, tried most of the library, includign a lot of games I never played back in the day.
I knew that Castlevania 64 had bad reviews, and they weren't wrong, tried the game and was not very good.
But then I tried Legacy of Darkness and was pleased to have found a "hidden gem" the game got better and better, great game.
Yeah it has some very interesting elements that you just don’t see in any other n64 game
I like how Konami didn't abandon Castlevania on the n64 and tried to fix the issues that the first one had even though i could overlook the issues of the first one especially with the camera issue and the fogging kinda brought a horror feel to it.
You know for all the crap they get now you raised a valid point that at least they tried with this!
When the world needed him most ... he returned ❤
Just like Flash Gordon 😂

I’d rather not go into all the boring stuff about my health conditions and diagnosis etc but I’m sure that would be a great click baity video lol
Honestly I for one would be interested, & I get the feeling other fans would be too. Up to you though man, we are just happy you are back.@@n64glennplant
Cornell's wetewolf form has much higher defense and offense. He can also continue running while throwing his main weapon instead of having to stop. Unfortunately, once you turn into it you are stuck that way until you run out of gems (hearts, sub-weapon ammo). After defeating a boss or other enemies that caused you to use it in the first place you usually just stand around waiting for it to ware off as any gems you collect during it will just get wasted. It is invaluable during the final boss of Cornell's campaign though.
See I never really felt that, I assumed that would probably be the case if I read the manual or something but when playing I really couldn’t see much difference in combat at all.
@@n64glennplant Hey, I'm not defending the transformation for being all it could be or anything like that. I'm just saying there definitely are some advantages to using it. I always play through the game on the hardest setting and though it has been a number of years since the last time I definitely remember the final boss being much easier using the werewolf form over sub-weapons for those reasons. You can get away with throwing your main attack while sliding too in either form but I'm almost positive it effects the damage you do and damage you take. I really got to play through all of the characters campaigns again as I always did enjoy both this and Castlevania 64. I still own the actual cartridges and N64 too.:)
Welcome back Glenn. I love Castlevania 64 and the follow-up Legacy of Darkness so this should be entertaining.
I actually like both but LOD is always the complete package for me
@@n64glennplant
Yeah LOD definitely does have more polish to it over 64.

Thanks, you too!
Always a joy to watch these videos from you, Glenn. I’ve bought several N64 games over the past couple of years following watching your many reviews. Thank you, and I hope you’re doing well.
Great to hear! Hopefully this one won’t break the bank with how expensive it’s becoming
So awesome to have back, Glenn! Funny enough I was just looking to see if you'd done a review on legacy of darkness recently to see you hadn't yet...until now! :D
Maybe it was fate 😂
All these years later and he is still giving us glorious n64 content.
Can’t leave everyone with the job nearly complete now can I 😁
Great to see you back Glenn, literally yesterday I searched for a review by you on the Snowboard kids and a few other games.
Love snowboard kids 1 so damn much!
Woa! Glenn is Back!! Yay!
Will try and see what I can get done
Always lovely to see a new N64 review from the King, himself! Dropped everything just to watch this with my family and friends and now quite a few of us are going to be revisiting this classic game that I would personally rank as my 3rd favourite Castlevania game, just behind Curse of Darkness and Symphony of the Night, but just above Rondo of Blood and Castlevania 64. Thankyou for the video, we're wishing you all the best from all of us with your current and future projects! : )
Thanks j appreciate that, unless my health takes a deeper turn I should be having some more content up on the way
Been rewatching a bunch of these reviews the last month as I go down a 64 kick and wondering if you'd ever return for more. Great timing!
GLENN!! I Just realized you just dropped this today! One of my favorites too! Was just watching some old N64 NHL reviews of yours on my lunch break today. Great to see you back!!! Thanks for the upload! Hope you're doing well brother! 🖐
I meant to have this on Halloween but got side tracked
So happy to see you again Glenn!
And I’m thankful to be well enough to do some of this again
Good to see you back on the Tube Glenn!!!

I actually love this game. Played the version known as 64 a lot with my father when I was young. The gameplay loop and the ambiance is really charming and I'm always looking for games with the same gameplay/vibe. Sadly, there's not enough of them.
Yeah it seems it’s always zombies now rather than gothic style horror
Nightmare Creatures, Medievil, Nocturne (PC).
Glad to see you back!

Welcome back. It is really great to watch another review video from you.
Thank you kindly!
Any day a new Glenn Plant vid drops is a GOOD day! Welcome back sir!
Thanks Ian that means a lot
Yes! I just rewatched all your videos the other week! Thanks for the upload! ❤
You're the best!
Welcome back! Missed ya :) I have to say, tho, you got some things wrong in this. First, you can manipulate the camera with the d-pad as you see fit. Second, Cornell's beast form IS more powerful than his regular form. I would also recommend playing the japanese version, as it has Henry's quest unlocked from the start, rumble pack support and on-cartridge save^^ As for Gilles de Rais, he died in 1440, some 400 years before the game is set.
Anyway, this is the real CV64 and there is no need to play the first CV64. It's a good game. Far from perfect, but pretty good.
Hey, thanks!
Seeing your name in my subscription feed again just made my day. Welcome back!
Yay, thank you!
Great to have you back!
Cheers Josh. Health allowing it I’ll continue to get stuff out

Glad to see you back, I enjoy your channel! I recently have been getting into the N64 and have been checking out all the obscure games you have covered. It seems like you have basically covered it all at this point. Would love to see your takes on some of the impressive rom hacks that have been coming out lately, like shotgun mario 64, lol.
The n64 beta project series kinda had some of that type of stuff
Great to see you back. Love your content.

Wow, I was one of your first subs back like over 10years ago when you just started (I had another account back then). Just found your channel again, awesome to see how much you grown here on YT. alot of great material to go through!!
Thanks for subbing all this time…plenty more to come
Man, I missed your videos so badly. Welcome back Glenn!!!
Thank you I appreciate that
I'm glad you are back! I definitely want to play this game, but since the Castlevania Netflix show the price has skyrocketed. I remember this game in bargain bins for 10 dollars. Now the price is ridiculous!
I watched a few episodes of season 1 and wasn’t that into it
Glad to see you're back and a review for a game I've been on the fence about for years. I might look for a copy of this now.
Always seems to go up and up price wise this one
Great review and welcome back, Glenn! It was a nice gift to see my favorite N64 game get reviewed today. This was one of those games I bought at launch back in Dec. 99 and have always enjoyed going back to it over the years - playing through it a number of times with all four characters/using alternate costumes. It definitely offers a lot for those able to stick with it and its atmosphere is topnotch!
Thanks again! The thing that’s nice is once you know the route through each game it’s very fun to speed run
Long time no see! Glad to see you make reviews again.
I’m glad to be here so much
Most excellent video Glenn! You made me want to go and buy it now :D
I wish Castlevania went more in this direction, maybe a bit more of a 3D MetroidVania, as turning itself into a God of War clone really destroyed the franchise.
Yeah I mean how hards it to give a huge 3d castle, tons of exploration and gothic horror etc
Glad to see you back Glenn! Amazing video as always. Will you be doing things like livestreams again?
That's the plan but I’ve been doing them more on twitch
So glad to see you back! And definitely go at your own pace and hope that you stay healthy outside of YT.
Hope all is going well for ya!
Thanks I hope to continue recovering too
Wow I was not expecting a Glenn Plant N64 review to pop up in my feed but it’s a great sight to see! You haven’t skipped a beat- great review! Sending well wishes.
Wow, thanks! Appreciate that
Hello Glenn, new subscriber here. I just want to thank you for such great videos. You've got me excited again for the N64. Your channel gives that 90s and early 2000 feel of reading a game magazine back in the day but as if I'm listening to them in audible.
I hope I get the chance to be able to discuss in future videos.
Keep up the great work.👍
Glad to help and more on the way soon I hope
I am joinging the Party People that are glad that you released a Video Glenn!
I haven't played Legacy of Darkness, but in my Opinion Castlevania 64 is very enjoyable and has a very nice Atmosphere.
Guess i have to throw that one into my Everdrive some Day, way to pricey.
Edit: BTW doesn't Renon look like Jean Reno :P
Haha now you mention it! I quite like renon as a character in the series
No way!!! I was checking this week to see if your channel had any recent comments regarding the hiatus. Sorry to hear you have not been well, but glad to see another vid from you

Been looking forward to you coming back! Your reviews have gotten me to buy so many underrated or overlooked n64 gems!
Glad you like them!
Actually there is a reason to play Castlevania 64 as Legacy of Darkness still didn't quite contain the games full vision. Many of the returning locales in Legacy of Darkness are indeed new maps. They were clearly intended to be the same locales, but 8 years after Cornell's quest that should have used the maps out of the first one. The forest level in Legacy of Darkness has some of the same mauseliems as C64, but worn out and busted up. The level with the lava in LoD has the tower section from C64's version sunken into the lava. There are a few other examples as well. I don't doubt that editing all of this together is extremely time consuming but I think you should be a little more thorough when playing these two games. I noticed this pattern of same locales being damaged and worn out versions of C64 levels the very first time I played LoD.
I just wish they’d release a new like total remaster combining both the n64 titles
@@n64glennplant Agreed. I always liked these games better then the Iga Castlevania games both 2D and 3D. They seem truer to what Castlevania is all about and the series would still be going strong if they had continued going down this route, ironing out all the kinks and flaws along the way. Once dominant Japanese companies like Konami tried there hand at fully 3D action platformers like Mario 64, realized how hard it actually is, and just gave up. It was incredibly shortsighted. Far too many games still rely on fixed cameras and levels that are basically a collection of simple, flat, combat arenas.
Yay! He is back! Nice to see you back dude. This past few weeks I have been watching your videos loads.
Glad you like them! and thanks that means a lot

Welcome back! Never played this one, I just remember the mediocre N64 Magazine review of it putting me off. The AVGN's review of it is very amusing though. Who'd have thought these middling old N64 games would have some worth decades on? Hurray!
Edit: Ooh this is a tweaked, patched version? Interesting. Didn't even know this existed! Think a similar thing happened with one of the N64 F1 GP games, although I may have made that up.
Same avgn who couldn’t get past the first level of Indiana jones on n64 and just destroyed it but in the process exposed himself for his short comings 😂
@@n64glennplant I saw him play DKC 2 once and he didn't work out how to hold the run button and was complaining why the character was moving so slowly. Which was mystifying.

So happy to see a new post from you Glenn! Hope you’re doing well brother
Hey, thanks for checking in!
Thank you Glenn, good to see you back again, loved the video :)
I've always been a massive Castlevania fan since the Nes. When I first bought Castlevania 64 back when it released here in Australia, I absolutely loved it.
To me even though it had its flaws, was awesome to see it in 3D and I got a sense of atmosphere and sometimes fright (garden maze stage had my heart racing).
When I heard a 2nd version was coming out, I immediately jumped and pre ordered it at a local video game store.
Even though this version succeeded in doing what CV64 was supposed to do, it never deterred me from enjoying both, as I found the subtle differences to still be enjoying when playing either version.
I still love listening to the OST of CV64 at night to fall asleep to at times, and will fire up the 2 games every now and then.
I agree, it’s actually worth playing both titles I think. As you said there’s still enough differences between them etc
Dude! I'm tearing up right now! I missed you! I was hoping you were okay!! Thank you so much for another upload!!
