Glad to see the change to longer format build videos! I think shorter format is fine for specific topics, but in my humble opinion full builds should be as long as they need to be to cover the whole process because that makes it more comprehensive to learn from. I know there are other preferences and opinions, but that's my vote.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a RUclips build without using Dominos or Rubio. Thanks for another great video. Good to see you back in the shop. Cabinet looks great. Spalted alder is really nice.
I really like the new, longer format. As other have said, the short tool tips are good but I like seeing the builds. Keep it up! We'll keep coming back!!
I love your work but I think what makes your videos so interesting is that you not only take us through the steps but you explain the "why" to everything you do.
Glad to see a build video for a change other than tips & tricks. Very well made cabinet. I too have the Dowel Max & it is fabulous. I also love the fact of finishing BEFORE assembly that way glue doesn't get into the grain of the wood.
How's she goin'? It was interesting for me to see your use of dowels for your joinery. I have always shied away from them and used biscuits. But I always struggled trying to get the alignment right with the biscuits. But it looks like that isn't as big an issue with the dowels. Thanks for this demo!! Take 'er easy!!!
You sound like you're from Newfoundland. If not it's absolutely no problem of course. Just sayin. You comment about the frustration of using biscuits rang true with me. Always frustrated the bejebers out of me! Anyway take care and have a LARGE DAY INDEED!!!
@@perrymurphy4100 How's she goin"? Sorry, I'm not a Newfie. Not a Caper either, just a Bluenose mainlander with some dialect challenges I guess!! LOL I was excited to get a biscuit jointer but was pretty bummed when I could never get the joints to line up and be flush. That last time I made a panel glue up I didn't even use biscuits, just face glued the edges and got them as flush as I could and then sanded the parts that weren't flush. Made the panel kind of wavey but I tell everyone that's a character mark!! LOL Thanks for the comment. Take 'er easy!!!
What a wonderful instructional video. That was a lot of fun. Just a lovely use of the spalted panels for a great contrast. Now you call this a whiskey cabinet. Where does that name come from? Also can you say where your dowel jig can be found? A tutorial on using this jig could be very educational. Dowel use so often frustrated me and yet you see old chairs, that have so much stress at the joints, that last for a long, long time. The way you confidently used them for panel glue up really impressed me. Thank you much lad.
I'm not sure where the name comes from, I think some also call it a liquor or wine cabinet, good thought on the dowel tutorial, I will ponder that for sure. Dowelmax available through dowelmax.com or Rockler
Very nice vid ! I appreciate the fact these take longer to get ready to post and editing. I’m absolutely no fan of the shorts so for me this is awesome. I look forward to seeing the future vid on the handles. I’m also wondering about shelves? Dowels are something I’m really looking forward to start working with.
I have had the same experience with the 3M sandpaper. I started using it just a couple of weeks ago, and I found that it cuts so much better that I can start with 120 grit, rather than using 80 grit as I did in the past. It works really, really well.
Awesome video Colin, thank you for sharing with us. Quick question on Osmo, do you hand sand with that 600 grit between coats? Do you feel like that's necessary after the second coat or only in between? Thank you!
Nice! Curious on the spalted alder - is that plywood or is that a solid piece? As it looks to be rather thin (1/4” - 3/8” thick) that must require a pretty hefty band saw, eh?
The "reveal" is where the leg does not line up flush with the apron, so the apron is set back from the leg, that is called the reveal, the purpose is to help add "depth" to the look of the furniture.

Spectacular Whisky Cabinet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remarkable build. You have sold me on dowels! Putting the pocket screws out to pasture.
Can’t wait for the next video! Great series.
You won't be disappointed
I was pleasantly surprised to see a RUclips build without using Dominos or Rubio. Thanks for another great video. Good to see you back in the shop. Cabinet looks great. Spalted alder is really nice.
Why does it matter, just use your preferred joinery and finish.
I really like the new, longer format. As other have said, the short tool tips are good but I like seeing the builds. Keep it up! We'll keep coming back!!
I was blown away, like a queef in the wind. 🌬️

Beautiful cabinet! Love that spaulted alder.

Hi Grampie, dowels are much more versatile, accurate and stronger, quite a difference in how they work

Very nice. I really like the new format.
Glad you like it!

Many thanks :)
nice job! have you ever seen dark bronze hinges like the ones that you used? Thanks
Now I'm really curious to see what are some of the bottles you are going to stock that cabinet with...
LOL ... so am I (not much of spirts drinker, will see what I can come up with)

Thanks for the comment and sharing your experience with the 3M product, nice to know others that share my observation
Awesome video Colin, thank you for sharing with us.

Didn’t see a demo on the off set dowel set up, just how the center was done
I think that will be in the "Behind the Scenes" follow up, but thinking about doing a tutorial on the dowelmax, many have asked for it

Beautiful cabinet, Colin... just don't put any Jack Daniels in there... 😏
(Ask Matt Walsh why... 😉)
LOL ... OK
👍👍
👏
Colin, you didn’t show your whiskey collection! What whiskies will you be putting in it?
🎉❤🎉

i wont be cutting any wood in this video, here is me cutting some profiles in wood

Pra que falar tanto? O vídeo fica muito cansativo assim !
Your comment is boring... & rude, get some manners... 😒
