Vinny becoming a Dragon Quest fan since Hero came to Smash is one of my favorite developments of his, especially with the Toriyama connection between Chrono Trigger and DQ.
I'm playing through Romancing Saga 2 very slowly but I came into this stream nearly two hours in and from what I saw, I actually would really enjoy this. I have too many rpg games help
Considering how Chrono Trigger is Vinny's favorite game, and how his top 100 games list is predominantly JRPGs, I'm surprised he hasn't played more Dragon Quest. In fact, I'm surprised he hasn't played every Dragon Quest game.
It’s mostly a nostalgia thing for him. Pretty sure he’s even admitted that. It’s why it’s only jrpgs from his childhood he really enjoys, and you never really see him playing any new ones.

At level 20 they can become the best class in the game for free However it's better to wait till you can change classes before using one so you can grind to it faster
A Gadabout's nature in battle is to simply goof-off. When it hits certain levels, it'll learn more tricks to goof-off with. Doesn't mean it'll do them more often however, and a lot of them are pretty crappy until the later levels, where it can perform major feats... like crying a tidal wave out of tears.
I didn't expect the second most exciting change to this remake for me to be that you can now equip personality-changing accessories purely for their stats by wearing them in the secondary slot, but here we are lol
Honestly the fact of the matter is JRPGs are best played when you're a kid because you not only have the free time to dedicate to it but the game will make that much more of an impression on you. It's just a fact that our childhood favorite games will probavly always be our favorite games. And even if it's Vinnys career to play video games, he plays variety all the time, so he just doesnt dedicate his streams to one game. Getting through a long game on this schedule just takes too long.
I recently watched his DQ11 playthrough and was disappointed by how all over the place it was. He made so much progress between videos, so large, important parts of the story were just skipped(for the viewer anyway). I'd love to see his entire playthrough this time.
To be fair, he did said that was gonna be the case from the start,while I would have loved it to be a full playthrough, I think he didn't had time to do a full stream for it back then and that's why he did the few parts of it, but hey, we got some goo d jokes out of it

Fingers crossed they find some way to make Dragon Quest 2 actually fun for once instead of just tedious and painful. That would involve drastically altering the party composition and leveling, but it's a rare instance where I'm 100% on board with changing the original game.
@@alexh2790 1 of 2 instances I can think of where the devs literally apologized to consumers for how something turned out. The other being Miyamoto over the Water Temple in OoT. And every rerelease from the SNES version to the Switch has tried in various ways to make DQ2 less painful to play, to not much success.
Remember when "HD-2D" started out as EVERYTHING resembling pixel art? Now, newer games with this branding have environments with normal 3D models, with only the characters having a pixel art style.

It was completely overblown. The game has censorship, mind you. But it's all minor stuff and the plot is unchanged aside from the obvious expanded stuff that was to come with this Remake anyways. It IS a non-issue.

Not sure why devs do the whole "type A" and "type B" instead of just calling it gender. Like, it's not Cyberpunk77 or Saints Row where you can mix and match voice etc. If you're only gonna have two options just call it gender.
Sometimes he gets addicted when he plays games this way. Rimworld was once a pipedream my friend. Always hope in the one offs. I enjoy that he actually gives games a chance, he's not obligated to finish it, he can just try it out. 😅
I think the encounter rate will make him drop the game but who knows. If it annoys me, he would find it awful. You can run the game at 4k by changing to windowed mode and setting it to 4k, entering the game and then switching to full screen. It won't say 4k anymore but it will be. There is a patch available through cheat engine to run the game at higher frame rates. Anything from 61 to 240 fps. It works well. He seemed to like the characters in 11. That isn't really a thing in DQ except for 8. I don't know how he is going to feel about an entire party be mute protagonists. The game still has a great localization with charming NPCs, which helps a lot.
DQ4/5/6 have non-silent party members and those games are easily some of my favorites, I could maybe see Melpert liking them too. I’ve been waiting for them to bring them over to modern consoles for some time now though…

Sorry beforehand for a long unneeded post, but I've been trying to put my finger on what about the art style in this game isn't working for me. I went back to compare to Live a Live, and I think my conclusion is integration. In that game, there are a lot of elements, various objects, the grass, which maintain a 2D artstyle as it works with the 3D environment and maintain a level of cohesion. Here it looks completely 3D with sprites slapped on top. The 3D assets generally look competent, but they clash to a point of feeling like generic elements by comparison. It kind of just feels overproduced to it's detriment, which is a weird complaint, but I don't know how else to put it.
Will you try checking Star Ocean The Second Story R and compare it with DQ3 and Live A Live next? and it's strange, I felt a pure classic feel looking at it rather than something feeling off. Maybe playing it would give me a better feel for the uncanniness you all are describing, though I understand what you mean in a more art direction perspective.

As do a lot of LGBT fans. Especially when, as said, the dialog that isn't VAd is gendered anyways. Like, if you pick A you will be addressed with male pronouns and likewise for B with female pronouns. Outside of that though, as someone whose favorite DQ is DQIII, I'm loving it so far.

And the “type A type B” like the other person said it’s stupid to have that, and the fact the creators hate having to do this just sours me even further

Amusingly theyre actually not that great for those little adventure board things because you dont always want to roll a 6
once you get to alltrades abby and get them to lvl 20 you can turn them into a sage without a limited vocation book
In this version they actually learn some really useful skills later on but you have to stick with them until level 45.
At level 20 they can become the best class in the game for free

Hearing the DQ3 cave music always brings back memories of clearing grottos in DQ9.
