Dramatic, Perry Mason Moment at Karen Read Trial! - Day 28 - Lawyer LIVE

- Did Karen Read murder her boyfriend John O’Keefe by mowing him down with her car -maybe even intentionally? Or is she being set up by a corrupt law enforcement officials trying to protect their own?
O’Keefe was found dead in Canton, Massachusetts, in the front yard of Boston police officer Brian Albert. Prosecutors say Karen dropped him off at a party at Albert’s house and then hit him with her car.

This case makes me so grateful to be 26 years sober
So happy for you. It's a whole life you're living now. Congratulations! ❤
The amount of times I thought "if only these people quit their drinking"
Congratulations! You should be proud of yourself ❤
Wait ...hold up a minute...sooo wi fi said she wasn't there????
Congratulations !
If I were a juror, the bite marks on the arm alone would give me reasonable doubt. But the extremely odd behavior of the Albert family is also super suspicious. I think Michael Proctor was the death of this case. Horrible cop.
The injuries alone keep me FAR away from guilt.
Especially after Trooper Paul.
I have 20+ yrs collision experience and he's just wrong on a scary level!
The jury sees it and connects the dots. Those heavy drawn out irritation sighs are so unprofessional and obviously biased against the defense.
I agree, I find it hard to believe many jurors will be willing to stand with Proctor and argue he's a totally honest cop aside from all the abhorrent texts and such.
@@wendyc1902 Yes, and yet this judge allowed him to say whatever he wanted on the stand and restricts the extrodinarily qualifed experts that the FBI had originally used. Makes no freaking sense.
U don’t see how Jaren Read was ever charged with a crime when I see no credible evidence against her. She was the one one trying to save his life, when she found him. I hope Justice is serviced and Civil suits follow.
In 1963 my sister was the guest star on the Perry Mason Show episode "The case of the Golden Oranges". Happy to share this with all of you.
I just looked up the episode, there's a dog bite issue in that that episode, too! Perry Mason was my Mom's favorite show when I was a kid and we watched it many times in reruns together... good memories
Cool!
😅🎉😊
Oh geeze, now I'm going to look to see that one. I love Perry Mason and saw it's being replayed in the mornings and on demand. I'll find her. Love the bit of Trivia.
Thanks for sharing, I’ll have to check it out. Perry Mason brings so many memories.
Destroying cell phones, ripping up basement floor and replacing it, getting rid of Chloe- Karen is not guilty.
Vehicle data, taillight pieces, violent hateful voicemail messages, 3 calls in the middle of the night to her parents, and more. Karen Read is guilty of murder.
I’m pretty sure we are all seeing that now
It's So freaking obvious. These charges need to be dropped and those two officers need to promptly be arrested!
Don’t forget the dna from 3 males on John’s clothing.
You all want there to be something. The defense is just throwing anything at the wall. Karen was raging.
What a bunch of messy and dramatic drunks. All of them. I think that is why this case is so confusing and chaotic.
Agree. Bunch of still drunk or hungover buttinskis trying to fill in all the blanks together.
It's the reason this case exists at all.
As a physician, when I saw the marks on John O’Keef’s arm it was easily recognizable as a dog bite, and scratches.
but wouldn’t there be dog DNA?
Thank you, Doc!!! Appreciate you sharing your expertise!!! ⚖️
As an absolute lay person I saw it too. I did get bitten in the face once and got the classical black eyes.. and a few small punctures and slashed. I looked beat up too and it was just a smallish dog.

Aloha Lee. I just wanted to say that even though the subject matter is very serious, it is always such a pleasure to listen. No drama. No hysteria. No wild theories. Just excellent commentary that is informative and fair. Many thanks.
Karen's phone connecting to John's home wifi when the Prosecution is claiming she was at the Alberts hitting John with her car is case closed for me. Acquittal. Not guilty.
No...😂 thankfully the jurors are processing all evidence
😂no swifty...just the opposite!
They will say she left her phone as a alibi lol
I'd call a lawyer too immediately after hearing from Proctor on his personal cell!
Definitely
Exactly.
Love you Lee! I’m a proud Gen Xer, and I remember my parents watching Perry Mason!! I definitely get it! Thank you for all the work you’ve put in! You are awesome Madame!!
I am so sorry 😞 over your husband’s passing.
In a nut shell it's called too much alcohol.
Yep...the Aruba stuff...drunken banter is what I called it.
These messages were just more of the same, Imo
So you’re blaming it on the alcohol huh? Oh my question to you would be simply Karen Reed had so much alcohol that she got out of the car went over to John , bit ripped his arm drained his blood it punctured it and sliced it just like a vicious, big dog and then got back in her car and drove away, is that what you’re saying?
@@charleslaurice
Ummm...I think you're reading too much into that comment.
We're talking about the text messages.
And yes...the temperature of the texts I am blaming on alcohol
Agree
What's the saying. Nothing good ever happens after midnight while drinking alcohol.
All the voicemails reveal nothing more than a stormy relationship. Absolutely no indication she was aware of her having caused any injury with her vehicle.
These messages aren't different than some women who behave passive aggressively. Who hasn't sent a manipulative text or voicemail in their lifetime. Insecurities, jealousy, someone in a "going nowhere" relationship ..the possibilities are endless.
@@meavey38I agree! And it also proves she thought he was alive. Her anger, betrayal, insecurity was real. Palpable.
I wonder what the jury thought looking at John's mother in court while she was listening to the voice-mail. I hope the jury figures out that if Karen hit John even accidentally she would not have left such nasty voice mail. And a bunch of them.
Yeah its just a PIECE OF THE PUZZLE if you have any sense.
Correct
Turtle Boy asked today defense Yannette Thursday June 21 as he was leaving court if Defense starts tomorrow and he said yes. He also advised trial will be wrapped up before next Friday. WOW so good to hear this is finally going to the jury 🎉
I watch Perry Mason every day, just for the chuckle. I have loved this series since childhood! The Writer was from my hometown, Ventura, California. Earle Stanley Gardener.
I’m 64. I watched sooooo many Perry Mason shows, they were in black & white, and they were great. 🔎
I watched it as a kid. And only a few years ago learned: The very last episode of Perry Mason was filmed in color. I stumbled across in syndication and was amazed, it looked surreal and I must admit the show worked much better in black and white.
@@lindahorton7851 it makes sense that they would do something surprising in the last episode. I loved the black & white, and looking at the clothing, jewelry, fine art, sculptures in all of the scenes. It is a real collection of fine style.
Ditto 🎉
Reruns are on now , I’ve been watching
The shows theme music is so dramatic
What a superb generous act of creating this timeline. Its wonderful to see this impromptu community collaborate to increase our collective understanding of what happened. This case, so complicated shows how often people lie and misremember.
They seem to think John’s phone was logging the drive to the house as flights of stairs due to the elevation change. Why don’t they make the same drive with a phone and see if it logs it as steps. I call BS, a drive isn’t going to log as steps.
It was also John's arm movements as they argued in the vehicle
Everyone that has an iPhone sure wishes they'd get step stair credit for driving in a car up a hill. 😂
NO, NOT ELEVATION OF DRIVING A CAR!!! Ridiculous. We live on an Ice Age Trail -- rolling hills... NEVER fools my Fitbit nor my Phone Health App!
I Googled Mapped the hills he’s talking about on Birchcroft, Pinedale and Cedarcrest Road on the way to 34 Fairview. Yeah, no big hills!!! Not going to log 3 flights of stairs on JO’s phone while they are diving to 34 Fairview. Like Lally would say, this is laughable.
Agreed, also so interesting 🧐 how the CW stands by the data when it’s against KR but For Jen McCabe the data is FALSE
Opening Lally said 12.45am Karen hit John. Paul said same. Today she’s at Johns at 12.36am connected to his wifi. They’re all over the place. Jen McCabe texting John and swore she saw them at 12:45 out front. They’ve relied on JM for everything it seems.
There are plenty of reasonable doubt items in this trial. Nothing that points definitively 100% to her guilt. The bites on the arm don't come from a car...plain and simple.
Idk, that kinda looks like a Lexus bite.
Those aren't dog bites. Those are gashes caused by his arm being caught somewhere and then dragged on asphalt and glass. Dogs dont bite with their front teeth only. Dogs grab a hold of the arm and cause marks on the other side of arm. There are no marks to prove a dog bite. How can this dog only bite the inside part of the arm, the part of the arm, that tucks into the body. The bite marks would be on the top and outside part of arm.
The dog bite expert will be on next week - stay tuned.
@@outoftime7740how do you explain the lack of injuries or even marks on his clothing that would be expected from being dragged? Also, unless dogs are trained to bite and HOLD, the marks they leave are often just from their front teeth.
@@passionflower4594more like a Jaguar 🤔
Nope, those are dog scratches and bites.
You are so thoughtful and kind with the members
Even if she hit him, if she didn't know, why would she be charged with murder?? It would be an accident. This woman never should have been charged. There's more than enough reasonable doubt. Those wounds look exactly like dog bites I have helped treat many of them at the wound clinic. I also want to know where the 3 Lt of blood he lost went, it wasn't outside.
You should be on the stand, call the attorney, and tell them what you just said .
@@judygutierrez4309 unfortunately I wouldn't be able to testify, the judge isn't even wanting to allow the defense witness on the dog bites to testify because the state is arguing they didn't have enough time to prepare. I believe the judge is biased.
Owner of house had the floor of basement refinished…Some believe John was assaulted there and later taken outside afterwards. So, perhaps that is where the blood was, and is: under a refinished floor. But, then I think: why wasn’t there a lot of bl**d on John and his clothes when found? Three liters I’d a very large amount of bl**d.
Bingo
If she hit him it would be manslaughter because she was drunk.
think this case is a good example of the craziness of what happens when people are drinking excessively. lot of the behavior is not logical.

Also, thank you so much! I appreciate all the work you put into these.
I have been wondering if there is a "planted juror" in the jury too. I hate to say it, but it seems likely with this "judge" if not, I can see her overruling the jury's decision if they say innocent, she will say guilty.
@@RMBRN11Her instructions to the jury are going to be negative to the defence . One juror has already been discharged for inappropriate behaviour in the court , but I missed if she was pro or anti KR .

something Ive noticed about the cops when they are being crossed, they tend to not answer the question being asked directly but answer in anticipation of where the attorney is going with their line of questioning. I believe by doing this it breathes air into the conspiracy theory vs just answering the question being asked.
Almost all state witnesses become defensive and all of a sudden don’t understand the defense’s questions.
The defense is trying to confidence the witness

These so called law enforcement officers give a bad reputation to all the great officers around the country who keep us safe and take their jobs and victims seriously. It looks like MA has some serious problems with its state police, and local LE can't be trusted. Thank you Lawyer Lee for being the voice of reason and keeping us all grounded, because these "good ole boys" infuriate me. I absolutely cannot understand how this case ever got to the Grand Jury. It looks like LE pulled the wool over the prosecutor's eyes and by the time everyone figured it out, it was too late and Karen Read had been charged with second degree murder. Now the prosecution team are laughing stocks around the world.
I totally got the reference to Perry Mason. Not just to the show, but also what it means when someone refers to a “Perry Mason moment.” I’m an elder millennial, for reference.
I'm an older one too, but somehow can't reconcile that fact!
He became so smug and arrogant on cross. Laughing and thinking he was cute. Such an a**

Lawyer Lee, your timelines are the best in the true crime business. That is some brilliant lawyering by the defense. I am temporally gifted so yes, I remember Perry Mason. 😁
Wow. This trial is something else. Thank you, Lee for walking us through it! I loved watching Perry Mason as a kid This trial has been fascinating!
Sorry about the loss of your husband.
Is it possible Karen Reed ripped up John’s arms in the fight right before he got out of the car?? She’s obviously very feral.
She said she was leaving the kids. She wanted him to come home or call. It was when she woke up and realized he didn't come home not knowing if someone was watching his daughter that she knew something was wrong.
Karen is guilty of driving while intoxicated. The rest of it? Too much reasonable doubt.
All of the people were drunk...ALL OF THEM!
Hi Lee,
I have served as a juror on a criminal case. There were so many questions that I felt weren’t answered. Unfortunately for the defendant he took the stand and it seemed as though he lied during his testimony.
Secondly our jury foreman was an attorney and he said “I have no doubt he is guilty “. In this case the prosecution really did not provide enough evidence in my mind to convict him. However the fact that the defendant testified and many probably thought he lied and the fact the jury foreman was sure of his guilt convinced me that he was guilty. I think as a juror you always want more information. I would always advise a defendant not to testify because I don’t think any juror wants to convict somebody.
Perry Mason was and is the best show. Others have followed, with Matlock being second to PM. I still watch reruns and never get bored.
Either way you slice it, they will never prove beyond a readable doubt… Shes going free
I think you are correct very confusing , my personal view is the she most likely did it , the policeman proctor was very angry with karen because he believes she did it . why would the others want to kill him he was on the whole well liked .
Agreed!
Yes, very well liked, but I think a little too well liked by these husbands' wives( going by Jen McCabes' desperation to get him specifically over to the Alberts house. I think there may also have been the issue with the lawn and Colin throwing beer cans in his bushes.
@@louisewright8769
She most likely did it even though there is no evidence that she did?
@@SamStone1964 She is a very controlling person and when they do not get their way watch out !!! she will get off on reasonable doubt but as i said most likely it was her . proctor was angry because he really believed it was her .
Karen was calling JO when they were driving & dropped the phone when she saw him & jumped out of the car. Jen called 911 & the call was picked up on KR vm. Hope that makes sense.
Yeah.. murderers ALWAYS leave angry angry messages on their victims phones.
Without the epithets, she said she was home with the kids, asserted he was cheating, and called him a "pervert." She called him a pervert in another voice-mail too.
Emily D Baker gains the sound from the feed so you can hear everything pretty clearly if you want to hear it yourself.
I wonder if he was interested in someone a lot younger than he is or something.
I think more went on with the chick in Aruba than was admitted in court. She was pretty full of herself and John appears to have been a player
@@barbaral743I think it’s a bit rich for the state to insinuate she was crazy to think he cheated. Then their own witness the day after he died was like “oh yeah, he didn’t love Karen. He was totally in love with this other woman. She was just a babysitter with benefits to him.”
Kind of makes her jealousy and assertion that he is interested in someone else and deceiving her not just plausible but likely. Accusing someone of cheating on you when they didn’t is out of line…accusing someone of cheating on you when they are isn’t irrational.
Now maybe she could have gotten crazy enough to kill him over it…but her jealousy wasn’t irrational…doesn’t sound like Kerry thinks he was faithful and she is so far the person that seems to have known him the best of the “friends” we have seen.
Perry mason? Dating ourselves!! Im sure I watched every episode. Lol

This will end in acquittal!
I did a test with my IPhone. I threw it around at least 15 ft and up in the air multiple times. It did not add anything to my health data.

My spouse and I would def have been put in jail multiple times for many many texts and emails we’ve sent each other over the years - ffs! If she was home at 1236, who was in that SUV. That needs answers.
Or someone lied.
Being from Boston, I can interpret what Karen is saying, but there are 10 F bombs in her messages. Like you say, she was clearly upset. She tends to go off the rails, she may suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder. The evidence is mounting to show she likely hit him. Whether it was intentional, probably not. The GNSS data is tough to dispute. It does not look like John made it near the house (not within about 40-50').

I know Perry Mason but I wonder if more would understand it as a CODE RED moment "You can't handle the truth" "You're god damn right I did!" This trial has had a lot of Code Reds.
The real Perry Mason moment came when the defense proved on that at 2:27 AM, long before the body was discovered, Jenn googled on her phone how long it takes to die from exposure to the cold. Although, in defiance of the uncontrovertable extraction data, she denied on cross-examination that she made such a search until about 4 hours later at 6-something in the morning. In my opinion, the Judge should have never considered admitting the search for an attorney. We have a right to have an attorney and the presumption of innocence. That’s not consciousness of guilt. The prosecution and judge should know this. I’m not bought into the idea of a cover up but this changed the way I view the prosecution.
My memory is that the judge said this would not come in. Everyone has that right and it’s ludicrous for the prosecution to even bring this up.

The head injury hides any trauma to the eyes caused by a fist but those lacerations to the eyes do not. Either it was an accident where the dog attacked and he fell back (he was super drunk) or someone (Collin or Higgins) punched him and he fell or hit the back of his head hard. Either way it’s clear the McAlberts covered the whole thing up so Brian and Chief could retire without incident.
My bet is that it was a combo of events. Collin jumps him, the attentive dog thinks Collin needs protection so attacks JO and that’s why he fell backwards into/onto an edge or something sharp.
_It could have easily been explained as a freak accident._ “Hey they were having a “friendly” boxing match, but the dog messed up.”
BUT they freaked out thinking Collin had killed him.
If it was an innocent accident they would have called 911.
Was thinking Karen hit him and then and the dog finished him off curious to see what Feds have on the case
After listening to cross of the ME today, I think he was punched a couple to a few times and maybe something blunt or sharp was behind him in the tight quarters of the house or basement. I can’t tell if there was one strong blow or several blows. He was standing for a bit to bleed on his shoe and shirt. I think it happened shortly after he arrived because people started to scatter shortly thereafter. They waited to move the body until after the guests were gone. I think Higgins saw or participated but wasn’t the primary aggressor. It was probably Collin or Brian himself.
