- Hello :) This is the requested transcription I've done of the Three Dog Night version of the Hoyt Axton song "Never Been To Spain". The bass player on this track was Joe Schermie.
You can find this transcription at Muzento when you sign up with an Intermediate Lesson Plan.
This is one of the songs where it could be played a million different ways. The possibilities are endless. If you're not careful though, it could turn into a bass solo and I think that would take away from the song. So part of the challenge would be to keep your discipline and don't overplay. I like how he kept the articulations and rhythmic figures but found ways to add variations around that.
It's not too difficult but a lot of fun to play. I hope you enjoy :)
It makes for a good drum bass Play-Along which can be found here - • Never Been To Spain - ...
Don't forget to "like" and "subscribe" and thanks for watching :)

Just now seeing this. Thanks so much for posting! There are more notes than I thought - I’m a deaf bassist so I don’t hear all the notes. Appreciate the awesome work as always!
Awesome! Joe Schermie is criminally underrated!
Thank you :)

Amazing as always, Mr. Greg.
Thank you so much, keep on doing your amazing videos.
I hope we can eventually watch "Kid Charlemagne", by Steely Dan or "Lady, Love Me", by George Benson.
Again, thanks for everything. Greetings from Mexico.
Hello from Norway Norberto :) Thank you for your comment and I'll see what I can do...thanks!
sounds great!
do you think you could do "raise me up" by hercules and love affair?
thank you! I'm not sure? I'll have a listen :)
I play this song with Major notes, and a few minor. Try 3rd's, 5ths and 6ths notes. Guitar is playing (I believe) Major Chords, not Minors. You can throw a few more notes between 3,5, and 6 and roots.
Anyway, liked your feel but too many minor notes against Major Chords.
Hey Greg I am really enjoying your content it would be fantastic if you could do tight rope by Leon Russell I love the song and the bass I have fallin in love with over the past couple of years
Hi Cruz...I'll have a listen!
Hey thank you so much for this. I've been looking for the bass tab for years. Also, was wondering if you could transcribe "Cocaine" by Steve Marriott and the Scrubbers (not Clapton's "Cocaine") That bass line for Steve Marriott's "Cocaine" is fantastic. I think Boz Burrell is on bass, but not sure.
You're welcome :) I'll have a listen to your request...thanks!
