  • EP27 - With the weather outside being nice, it's time to tackle some jobs outside. Starting with a little design flaw that's been on the ship since the original rebuild from tugboat to sailing ship.
    Schoener Tijgerhaai (Tigershark) started life in 1944 as a canadian built tugboat and she has been in my family for almost 50 years. Together with my dad, I am rebuilding this beautiful sailing ship, to get her ready for new adventures!

    A lot of work , but some day you and dad Will be sitting in the wheelhouse with your feet up drinking and watching the wind fill the sails and fills your lives !

    Can’t wait to see the yacht under sail. Everything is so supersized. My yacht would sink with that much steel 😂😂there is something to be said about old steel yachts you can just forever modify them. 👍 We are in winter now so it’s nice to watch yacht building projects. 👍

      Neither can we! And indeed, it's nice that we don't really have to watch her weight :)

    Question: how much room between the anchor flukes and whiskers?
    I appreciate how well articulated the narration. It is a joy to watch two professionals devise and execute their plan. The floating garden reminds me of a decrepite painters skiff we used for many jobs.
    Sign me up for the forepeak when ready to shove off.

      That's a very good question, we started to be a bit concerned halfway through the process, but in the end they have about 30cm (1ft) clearance, so worries for nothing :)
      Thanks alot! The forepeak is a bit cramped for sleeping, but i'm sure we can find a spot for ya ;p

    Just stumbled in the video - very interesting and very nice to see you and your father working together. Brings back good memories of my brother & myself, helping my father ready his old wooden sailboat every spring, for another season.
    (I am a recently-retired mariner. Does anybody in your area have a requirement for a FG 1st Mate 3000-ton 'ticket? Would consider working 'free' for a charitable outfit, otherwise for very low compensation (as am 'effectively retired')).

      Thank you! Good to hear that we can bring back some memories :)
      Can't help you with your search for a 1st mate ticket I'm afraid. Good luck in your search!

    Good thing you´ve found a metal with holes - holes are rare and hard to transfer. Love the elegant shape of Tijgerhai, thanks for sharing the video and best wishes to all of you! PS: Do you know the weight of these anchors? They look massive...

      I know right?! Thanks! The one on portside is 265 kg I believe and the one on starboard a bit lighter :)

    Tsjonge wat een vette boot. Wij zijn een 130 jaar oude klipper aan het restaureren, ergens wel een beetje jammer dat die niet zoals de Tigershark de volle oceaan op kan. Met zo'n schip als dat kun je hele vette dingen beleven denk ik!

      Hahah bedankt! Poeh, 130 is nog anderhalf keer zo oud, maar mooi werk! Hoe heet het schip als ik vragen mag?

      @DiikkeAap 3 месяца назад

      Het is een oudje ja, maar als ik het zo zie zijn jullie werkzaamheden veel ingrijpender met nieuwe verwarming en een nieuw stuurhuis! Het schip is 't beste te vinden als Zwadde, maar de naam wordt nog veranderd

    big boat for 2, will you be getting crew for long sails?

    • @tigersharkboatworks
      @tigersharkboatworks  3 месяца назад

      Not necessarily, the boat is equipped in such a way that it can be handled by 2 persons, or even 1 in combination with the autopilot. A 3rd person would be nice though, to have a relaxed lookout schedule during night sailing :)
