Aladino was trained in building a boat like a Swiss jeweler builds a fine watch. And then he has Maya's marine engineer father as collaborator, and Maya, who has absorbed this ethos as a finisher. What a team!
I really respect the Renaissance Man, Aladino, for taking his time and using optimal materials and techniques in his work. Same with Maya's respect for the durability and beauty of her finishing work and material choices. It's all too tempting to develop a 'Git 'er done' attitude and end up with a 6/10 finished project,. I admire and respect you both! Best regards from an airplane, car, truck, house and commercial builder AND sailor from Toronto!
This is great to see. Kudos for sticking with that drivetrain struggle. It was no surprise that you prevailed. Look forward every week to see what's new. Thank You both and Dad too.
Another great video. .. those couplings are not designed to be that tight. Thats why they are a split coupling with a key way. I think you will come to regret putting it on so tight. Just my 2 cents.
MC II will be a head-turner wherever you go. Even without the mast and all the cables and tools inside her beauty shines through more and more with every step you take. What a reward for years of meticulous work! And she´s not even in the water yet ...
I've been following y'all for a couple of years. It's nice to see it finally coming together. The both of you should be very proud of what you've accomplished so far. The best is yet to come! Best wishes....
The Bowsprit is just incredible. I've been lucky enough to meet some dolphins on a cat, you'll have an even better view. You two are such an inspiration of aesthetics, detail and hard work it is almost too much sometimes.
The shaft and coupling should go to a machine shop I can tell you when you put the coupling in the shaft there will be runout on the face. This is eliminated by dialing the shaft to zero runout in lathe and taking a small cut across the face of the coupling making it true to the shaft ,I also check and correct runout in diameter which happens when you tighten the setscrews. I have done this fir a few boats including my own...zero vibration
I don't necessarily agree with a machine shop being involved but, I would have made the end of the shaft a sliding fit in the coupling face end. The whole point of the split coupling is that it easy to fit and remove. After a few years yours will be almost impossible. The way I have done many is to relieve the end with emery tape to fit the coupling face end, put a bronze fox wedge in the slot to open it, fit to the shaft with just firm hits with a copper or lead hammer. Remove the fox wedge and fit and tighten the bolts. The only time that will slip is if you get a tarpaulin wrapped in the prop. How do I know!! To remove the coupling to service the stern gland , tube or other reasons just remove the clamping bolts and fit a fox wedge, to open the slot, the shaft will come out without huge forces. I doubt yours will ! Well done on the flooring sanding, that takes huge courage and care, lovely work M.
@@rl3898 Well I have been a millwright / machinist for over 40 years working within .0003 max tolerances and have done quite a few shafts for friends and have never had a vibration ,I also installed an R &D coupling on my boat that let's me check a and adjust alignment without coupling removal. Every shaft I have done when dialed in has had runout on face and diameter so I will keep doing it the correct way.
Were your ears burning this a.m.? We were in PT visiting Duracell and our fingers were crossed you might be around for the boat fest... super impressed with your progress - she is really a beautiful boat...
I've always been a shinny wood finish type of person but you have converted me from watch all your wood work with the satin finish. Looks really really beautiful
I'm watching your video and I remember my youth😁 15 years ago, my friend and I built a small sailboat from 0 and it was an incredible experience. Good luck!
Those chain plates will ensure that no other boat will dare to rub against yours in the docks. It’s a bit like the hedgehog with its spikes protecting itself against other predators 😄😉
Thanks as always, great to see the chainplates go on and the cupboard doors as well. That coupling was a challenge but at least you know it won’t fall off. Enjoy your work together.
Love following you in this build. The one thing/we miss is Maya's opening musical that you had when you were in the US. Please bring back your talent with the Vio. Thx
What is the total length with bowsprit? It looks amazing. Do you have a plan of your interior redesign? It looks very impressive. I've been helping my son with refitting the interior of a Sigma 36, so watching how you do things Aladino has been most helpful. Thank you
Hi Graham! The bowsprit is 6 feet. We don't have any plans drawn up for the interior, sorry! We mostly went with the interior layout that was already in place, but just updated all the components.
@SailingMagicCarpet - With a 6ft bowsprit that makes you 42ft overall. I must say that your workmanship is first class and the simplicity of the interior really sophisticated. Well done. See you in Plymouth Uk one day?
I really like the bow sprit with the platform. I can see Maya out on the platform looking off into the horizon with the porpoises dancing down below and the sun disappearing down into the sea. Not long now, eh?
Looks amazing, guys....its always the way when all that hard work finally comes together at the end, and you start to see the fruits of your blood sweat and tears
Will be nice to see you sailing again when everything's done. Among other things, I watch sailing videos because it's something I'll unlikely be doing myself. One of the reasons your channel is one of my favourites is that engine troubles are extremely boring and you hardly ever have them.
What a journey you have taken us on! Soon the Journeys will be yours and we all wait to take that journey with you as well. I am so impressed with the craftsmanship and the intelligent selection of wood and finishes that you have chosen. Simply a stunning transformation!!!!! Rob
Congratulations on getting the engine in place and the shaft installed! The boat really is progressing well and it’s as beautiful as was envisioned! Wonderful music too! Thanks for taking us along!
Aladino with the light on his head honorary minion! And the double degree wife .in Sanding and finishing ...oh what a team .. don't forget d.o.d. dear old dad . Just filling in the blanks .. dream team
So good to watch the two of you working. Your standards of craftsmenship and attention to detail is exemplary and should be applauded - very well done, she is looking beautiful!!
Super progress guys, as always ,Thanks for taking us along from all of the arm chair boaters and the ones who fall into the old saying I spent most of my money on women booz and boats, the rest i wasted!🙃
319th tag-along view about to set sail... 10:41 - like this segment 'deck tour' view. 11:55 - reminds me of a friend's Formosa 46 which had Teak & Holly decks/flooring. 17:34 - comic relief: "It's a carriage bolt - the horses are holding it!" (more like a bad 'Dad joke'.) 20:52 - the bow sprit really does extend the visual length & grace to the hull.
Maya is really doing such a great job with all that tedious refinishing! My girlfriend helped me a lot on our boat project and the amount that took off my mind was astronomical. I’m sure he is super great full. Keep it up, my girlfriend and I over last winter redid some of a 24ft 80’s powerboat interior from scratch. 90% of the fiberglass and epoxy skill set came from countless years watching you guys. It turned out wonderful! Us too had to take it out for a bit to get some real motivation for the last stretch but it does wonders for your motivation to keep going.
It is such a joy to see the artistry and excellence that makes up all the componenet of this beautiful boat. You two are an absolute inspiration to us all, particularly those of us with a boat too..!! The thrust bearing and aqua-drive is a picture offset with the white backdrop...!! Great work you two..!!
I really admire the attention to detail. It is very inspiring. I am following Sail life with Mads, the Tally Ho, Ran sailing and the Duracell projects as well but your boat is the most beautiful. And Tally Ho.
Wow, what a week. Drive train done, engine connected, bowsprit, floors, chainplates, rubrail - actually I had expected at least 3 weeks/episodes for all that work. Congrats!
Thank you for sharing all this with the world - I have learned a lifetimes worth from your refit, hoping to out all that goodness into a smaller scale one of my own sometime soon 🙏
Wow its looking just 'Magic', especially the bowsprit and platform, such a nice finishing and functioning part of the boat. You must be so proud of your hard work and now is the time when it's all coming together. Regarding the prop shaft coupling. Maybe you should revisit this to make it slightly easier to fit together as one day you will need to remove the shaft with the engine in place. As an ex machinist I would be looking at a fit of probably around size for size of the shaft and the hole. I am sure Maya's dad being a marine engineer would have looked at this? Anyway keep up the good work, well done. Cheers Ian
Your Bow sprint is a true work of art. So, looking forward to Miya's being out there and showing us your first dolphin escort. I appreciate both of your attention to detail. Your craftmanship is reminiscent of my husband and his approach to his woodworking, happy memories. I enjoy just looking at the many works of art that he dreamed of and brought to reality,🥰 bring me joy. Magic Carpet 2 IS a work of Art built with Love that will take you on many adventures.
Nice work, guys, I love the fact that you guys do the job right no matter what challenges that lie in front of you. It will make cruising far more enjoyable, with less equipment failures... and a great job with these videos.
I think the rub rails really frame the chainplates on the hull and ya, make it a picture. Pretty boats are the sirens call. I hope your summer shakedown holiday was fun. I'm looking forward to the launching. Timewarp and back to the future.
1st to comment! I'm always here for the very satisfying boat project craftsmanship and the music! Just happy to watch another episode!! 😸 And, Maya, ah yesss, the music!! 😸
What a beauty - looking back when she was in the US and how she looks today, my goodness me, what a journey you made us take part to. Thank you....
@@05stones I never doubt this paired with Swiss craftsmanship and unbeatable combination 👍😉
This boat is turning into a true jewel.
Aladino was trained in building a boat like a Swiss jeweler builds a fine watch. And then he has Maya's marine engineer father as collaborator, and Maya, who has absorbed this ethos as a finisher. What a team!
The chain plates with the bowsprit and the pulpit look amazing on the Cape George looks fantastic guys. Really really does.
Still enjoying your work, your dreams, your channel, your music!

Tons of progress , she’s looking mighty fine . Those chain plates are what dreams are made of , pure boat bling.
And well away from toes!😂
Your rare jewel is beginning to shine more and more brightly!
"...it's a carriage bolt..." Classic Aladino! 2 points!
What beauty and luxury becomes a sailboat because of a few meticulous wonderful people 😊

Truly brilliant, she'll turn heads in all the various harbors you enter. Thanks Aladino, you are a master craftsman.
Fantastic work and with such craftsmanship. Beautiful
The Bowsprit is just incredible. I've been lucky enough to meet some dolphins on a cat, you'll have an even better view. You two are such an inspiration of aesthetics, detail and hard work it is almost too much sometimes.

Lovely episode again. Beautiful music. Great work. And it's really a beautiful boat - wow.
What a satisfying place to, where every little project makes a huge visual impact. More and more beautiful each week.
A gorgeous dolphin viewing platform indeed! Triumph! 🥳❤️🎉

Loved this video so much things are taking shape now you will soon be in the water
Looking fantastic 👍

21:09 Great work you all got a lot done. What are you going to use to protect the bowspirit? Varnish? Wood sealer then something else?
The music is absolutely beautiful thank you for sharing
Brining the magic to the carpet ride ! Amazing progress
Beautiful work on the shaft drive system, very nice, well planned and executed.
A very groovy episode. Your beautiful sailboat is coming along nicely. Your RED engine is gorgeous.
I'm so excited to get her in the water 🙏❤️
Still with you after all this time.
Cada vez estou mais ansioso em ver o barco velejando lindamente. Saudações do Brasil.

Ooohhh Maya! Time for another Maya concert Please ❤ 😂 !
Your violin is good for my tired old soul! ❤
Thanks as always, great to see the chainplates go on and the cupboard doors as well. That coupling was a challenge but at least you know it won’t fall off. Enjoy your work together.
It comes altogether now wowww👌👌
Its always fun to see everything coming together. She looks great.
Very nicely coming together. Nice job sanding the floor.

You have done a tremendous amount of work and it pays off now, not much left to do and sooner than later you will be sailing this beautiful boat.
Congratulations on getting the engine in place and the shaft installed! The boat really is progressing well and it’s as beautiful as was envisioned!
Wonderful music too! Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for the varnish leson. I have to do my floors so i will use the polyurethene as advised.

Thank you for sharing this journey! Great episode you guys! Oh so close, I bet your tasting salt on your lips already. Enjoy your week ahead.
Warm up the coupling to 150 °C and it fits very easy !
Not sure if this would ever be necessary but then it would be nearly impossible to get it off again?
So good to watch the two of you working. Your standards of craftsmenship and attention to detail is exemplary and should be applauded - very well done, she is looking beautiful!!
Wow the bowsprit looks amazing. Also love the story behind the cabinet doors! Lots of stories interwoven into MC2!

These final visual elements seem to make such a big difference. Well done.
She turns out to be beautiful. Great job! Love it.❤
Only master A can be buzzed by a carriage bolt. As usually a great video you guys….it’s looking mighty snappy!
This work of art is a reflection of you two. That reflection is amazing.
I really admire the attention to detail. It is very inspiring. I am following Sail life with Mads, the Tally Ho, Ran sailing and the Duracell projects as well but your boat is the most beautiful. And Tally Ho.
Inscribe the door location under the hinges. You will only see it when you unscrew the hinge off the door.
Yes visually exciting, so good to see a young couple making it happen soon for around the planet.Shaft ahh Ahh ahh😅
highest quality throughout, the refit, the video, the people, the music.. thanks!

Bit by bit, your life and boat come together.
For me, every episode is a kind of adventure. Thanks!
Gettin’ awesome!! Thanks!!
Beautiful bote! Even more beautiful Maya! 😍 Don't worry, Aladino, I'm old and I'm far away. 😃
Beautiful work! You are really getting it together now. Love Aladinos' sense of humor. "Who is going to hold the bolt".
Great progress, I can see your sense of joy for it all coming together!
So sorry I can’t afford to be a Patreon, but none the less, you two are amazing!!
Keep up the excellent work❤️
