As a 21y 7m retired Army NCO I found the conversation informative. Everyone is human; with all the baggage that comes with it. Everyone is fallible and none are without sin. Rank is no guard against that, in fact it makes it easier to fall into. The visibility and politics at the field-grade level generates tighter constraints that thin to that of a high-wire performer, and is far easier to fall from.

Real insight ref the culture required to source leaders with independent thought and strategic judgement….and why the west often fails to get the ‘big ideas’ right.

I'll just put this here because of the feelings that have been expressed and will be in future comments. A lot of people will have a negative reaction to the interviewee in this video and many of them justified from the viewpoint of those people. However, I do think it is valuable to let the man speak, and for us listen - not as some way of honoring him or the opposite, but as a way to understanding his thinking and learning from it, so that we can ourselves use that knowledge to avoid the kind of things that resulted in him becoming as controversial of a character as he is today.

So don’t have sex with your mistress in exchange for giving her classified information in a war zone while your troops are getting killed right outside the wire?

"...On November 9, 2012, he resigned from his position as director of the CIA, citing his extramarital affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell, which was reportedly discovered in the course of an FBI investigation.[19][20] In January 2015, officials reported the FBI and Justice Department prosecutors had recommended bringing felony charges against Petraeus for allegedly providing classified information to Broadwell while serving as director of the CIA.[21] Eventually, Petraeus pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified information.[22] He was later sentenced to two years of probation and fined $100,000 for the unauthorized removal and retention of classified material he gave to Broadwell..."

i think the issue with Patraeus is that his actions are not in keeping with someone of that stature and responsibility in our defense and intelligence sectors. He shared classified information with his mistress and received a slap on the wrist, meanwhile CIA whistleblowers received prison time for sharing less sensitive information. Now he is cashing in further on his service doing the speaker, guest, expert role on TV. There are better examples to look up to that's for sure.

    “I actually don't think that the Israelis have gotten the Big Ideas right to accomplish the objectives they've set out for themselves, unless they're rescoping the objectives; & there's some discussion they may do that,” said General Petraeus. {ref@ 50:25 ⬆}

Total bs presentation and guest. No hard questions! from the hosts to the guy arguably more responsible than anyone for the LOSSES in our two forever wars! This guy is in EVERY conversation looking for what the hell happened that caused us as a country to LOSE BOTH GWOT wars. It's obvious isn't it - Gen P was an academic general in wars that required warriors capability and mentality! All his academic thoughtful informed actions were precisely why we lost - this guy is exactly what he appears to be - an academic and he have come nowhere near national security spears. An academic consultant, maybe, but a warrior leading troops and brutally, ruthlessly dealing wit ha ruthless, brutal enemy. If you want to know how to lose wars, go ahead, buy his book. Early on in the presentation, he invoked Hal Moore, our Vietnam commander who "won" the first major battle of Vietnam - we did NOT win, we got waxed the following day!

      4. From Hero to Zero (2012) 🎩🔻:
The guy who was supposed to know all about national security compromised it because, well… pillow talk! Great work proving that intelligence isn't his strong suit. 🤦‍♂️

      #AllForLove
      5. Plea Deal Humiliation (2015) 👎📜:
Guilty of mishandling classified information - as if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, he walked away with a slap on the wrist. Some warrior, huh? 🥴
      #DishonorInUniform
      #GeneralFail
      6. The “Petraeus Doctrine” that Didn’t Age Well 📜🧓:
His counterinsurgency strategy sounded fancy but turned out to be all bark, no bite. Basically, it’s a doctrine for a war nobody won. 🙃

The Legacy? A trail of wrecked countries, questionable ethics, and failed strategies.

He was praised as a brilliant strategist and intellectual. But the reality?
Most of his so-called “counterinsurgency” strategies were military jargon sprinkled with some Ivy League seasoning.
The ideas were flashy on paper but couldn’t deliver in the real world.

Maybe those wars were not to be fought. US lost a lot of credibility for fighting wars for the heck of it, and worse- didn't finish them. Anything after Korea is for nothing. Look US handling Ukraine now it's disaster waiting to happen. US will again lost interest there, let them in their own misery and lost. And US will have less friends again. It's possible that US will leave UE also, if that happens, you will not be welcomed back for a long long time.
