  • What an entrance! Or, I should say, what an...exit! Yes, because "Sciuta" in Sicilian dialect means "exit." On August 10th of every year, citizens of Palazzolo Acreide gather together in the main square of this beautiful Sicilian town to welcome San Sebastiano, who is back among his people. At 1 o'clock, the statue of Saint Sebastian is carried outside of the church, which brings his name and is greeted by the explosion of hundreds (maybe thousands?) of fireworks. At the same time, "nzareddi" (confetti) fall over the people in a rain of colorful ribbons. What an incredible experience!
