When i soldered in tight places, i used old license plates, backside facing heat. They bend easy and you could duct tape them in place. Great for protecting fiberglass, keeping wood from burning, etc. Tech tip momma.
Great job. I recently did the same Moen shower valve replacement. It was impossible to solder the valve body without leaking using lead free solder. I finally bought some 60/40 lead solder and it worked great.
There's no reason not to. Friends had a condo built around 2005. There was access to the back side of all 3 shower/tub valves, and for every cleanout. The place was also wired and piped for electric & gas appliances so you could run whatever you wanted. Also properly piped for a water softener (a necessity in the area) so the kitchen faucet and patio hose connection got unsoftened water. Someone with experience was involved in the design, that's for sure.
Code for Swedish bathroom is everything has to be external - pipes, taps, mixers. Pipe is chrome plated copper with chrome compression fittings, no soldering. And floors and walls are sealed all the way up.
Had to do similar job at my mom's house so I left access panel on other side open with 2 screws for next time laundry room back of shower! Great video Steve!
Moen is a good choice for replacement. I made the mistake of installing a Price Pfister faucet in my kitchen. The valves were always leaking and were expensive to repair.
Price Pfister, they could have contacted them and got a new valve for free. They have a lifetime warranty and their warranty department is really easy to work with and gets things taken care of in a timely manner.
Right, I was a teenaga (practice my New Hampshire accent) when I did that soldering behind showa. It's a Moen, I thinks. No leaks mamma, (but who knows what's going on under the rubber matting in bathroom or carpet in next room mamma). I was a teenager mamma! I think I did it right! ha. Always a nice time Steve with your videos.
owner could have called the manufacture they would have sent the cartage or a whole new unit if there is no parts. pretty much all these companies give life time warranty on these units.
Yep have a shower just like that called Pfister 1-800 number they sent me a new cartage kit and a new trim kit i didn't even ask for, Cost me nothing just my time, installed everything myself easy. But Steve did the best for his customer the shower valve may not have been under warranty like mine was great installation Steve you did a good job for your customer.
all the big name companies offer a life time warranty. i know american standard replaced a 1997 unit for me 2 years ago no parts they sent a brand new unit no questions asked@@Ander5806
I don't think propress should be allowed becuase I belive a solder joint is the best way to make a water tight connection I heard alot of the bigger companies use propress I don't never will not interested in propress !
You make everything look so easy. You should be very proud of yourself.
😂❤ The career and time 😅
You do make it look easy, Steve. Those were some tight quarters to work in. Great job!
That spider wants to know what the hell your doing to his home, He came to inspect your work, Good job Steve.
Steve you are a pro with your soldering. I have never seen you use a burn shield
High Steve from Scotland love your work and videos
Great job. I really like how you installed the two pieces of wood to attach the wallboard to. You do excellent work.

I just did that exact thing at my house fixing a leaking radiator pipe in my basement against the floor joist….old license plate. 😂
@@JohnR9965 great Happy Holidays
Good tip. Thanks
Steve, that looked like a tough soldering job. Nice job and good tech tips !
Hi Steve, looks like the resident supervisor, ( daddy long legs) is inspecting your work!!, lol 😆
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again ya’ll. 👍👍. what a great job, Steve, it’s always a pleasure watching you work, nice neat job!

I think they should make it code to put an access door so that You can change the tub faucet if You ever need to.

We had a handyman do just that for us. Four screws and the piece of drywall comes right off to expose the mixing valve and such, awesome! 😊

22:57 Mr Spider leaves Dodge when Steve heats things up with the torch lol

Nice professional repair
Nice job
I know your old school but what do have against pro press fittings???
AWSOME job
Nice
I can't keep up with the vids on this channel. Non stop uploads🥵
Good six hundred dollar job. good video keep em coming.
Where you get those gloves Steve?
Why would jya eva wear gloves??!!??
Nice job!!

Yep your right, agree with you 💯 percent. I worked with home owners and the Price Pfister warranty department never had any problems.

I always suggest Price Pfister to all of my Plumbing customers And my two HVAC plumbing guys also recommend Price Pfister
Where are you located. I would love your expertise on this same issue in my house this company charged outrageous we put it off for now

No edits either
so when can i start my apprenticeship? I'm buying lunch 3 times a week lol
I would have put a plastic access panel over the hole for future repairs.
"...a man of my calibration" LOL, where do you come up with these hilarious quips?
it's part of the trade...
Steve, which do you like more Moen or Symmons?
22:58 good thing you didn't have your glasses on. that is scary.
What I don't get is why the slip coupling cost more than the normal one, there's less machining that's needed!

Do u ever do pex & new connectors with squees tool
you could press it with compact press ring kit, be done in less than 30minutes, and charge 1100
I was thinking the same thing.
Hey Steve, you should look into the led conversion kit for your old Mag Flashlight. That room would have been lit up like Luna Park!😂
Steven, I saw that big spider come down, you must have smoked him out of the wall 🤔
once i clogged my toilet and had to call a plumber
Can't believe how you cut the drywall right next to the PVC pipe in the wall.
You must have x-ray vision.
Cutting that wall out again? LOL
Nice job. You need to know what you’re doing. Roland taught you well.
It cant be done any better than that.
I don't think propress should be allowed becuase I belive a solder joint is the best way to make a water tight connection I heard alot of the bigger companies use propress I don't never will not interested in propress !
@@willydavid I solder everything 😊
Price fister is absolute junk !!!
👍
Moen for the win!
Price pfister avante cartridge still available, cheap replacement for anyone else seein this.
Ace has cartridges.
I thought you were to supposed heat from the bottom, because hot air rise though out the pipe.
The copper itself is a way better heat conductor than air.
Heat where you want the solder to go. Solder flows toward heat. Very thin coating of flux.
22:57 big @ss spider. Yikes.
Yeah try to have a robot do this sh!t. WALL-E would be pissing his processor
I have those dandy long legs in my bathroom too, i haven't figured why they hang out there.
Snots huh Steve?, haha
I know you're not a fan of them, but wouldn't this be an ideal job for a pro-press? No fire risk, center the new valve and zip zip done?
that cartridge is a bitch getting out. use delta a better shower valve.
It’s a S### show Mama
