You should always pull or at least loosen the fill plug before the drain plug. If you cant get fill plug out, you still have fluid in unit until you can find a way to get fill plug out.
Never could find the torque converter drain plug for my 1988 F250 XLT super cab with 7.3 diesel. But I'm about to go after the trans filter and fluid change again.
You add Trans fluid through the dipstick tube. The C6 holds about 8 quarts in the transmission and about 4 more in the torque converter. When draining it, you will never get it all out, so when adding the new oil, you will probably only need about 9-10 quarts. Add little by little when you are close and check it, so you don't overfill. I just tighten the pan bolts good and snug, but the spec calls for 124 in/lbs (10 ft/lbs)
@@DickShaw Yeh I had a rust hole in my differental All juice came out Pluged it with JB Weld Then used a hose about 4 feet long with funnel tied to the door handel
No it is not. If the bolt is the same size and length as the others, then obviously they are interchangeable. You can take note of them as you remove them and if you see any difference in some, then put back accordingly. Most likely the filter bolts will be different than the pan bolts.
Yea I thought all the bolts would be the exact same. I guess I’ll just keep an eye on it in case. Did you let the gasket maker dry before putting it on? The first layer?
Hows it running with the more modern transmission fluid? Its near impossible to find the "right" fluid everyone talks about where im from and pretty much only that is around.
Obviously, metal against metal is causing the filings. Indication of serious wear. Are you sure they are metal filings because the clutches will produce filings as they wear which is normal but they would not be metal.
It could be many things. First make sure the fluid level is full which you have probably already done. Then if it has been quite a while, you might change the fluid and filter, you'd be surprised at the difference clean fluid can make. If the problem still exists, you're probably in need of a transmission rebuild.
@@DickShaw OK thank you!! Those pick up tubes are impossible to find (if the original is damaged or lost). I got the Wix filter and the tube barely engages the grommet. I've now ordered an ATP B50 kit, lets see how those fit.
Thanks for watching and for the comment. Ford called for Type F for the C6 thru May 1, 1976. After that they switched to the Dexron/Mercon fluid. At least that is the way I understand it. Best to always check the owners manual.
NP205 for smaller motors, or the BW1345 for larger motors. The later BW1356 from the 90s can be swapped in with a little modification too, but I just rebuilt my BW1345 and there wasn’t much to it.

How come every seal under that isn't leaking like mine😅
Great video! One question: Was the extended pickup tube included with the new filter? Thanks..
Thanks for watching. The extended tube was the original, it does not come with the new filter.
Where did you add the new transmission fluid and how much fluid did you drain? What torque specs did you use for the transmission pan?

Shoulda got a longer tube for transfer case Long enough to reach out from under car
Good idea. I didn't think of that. Thanks.

Other videos say that I need to make sure each screw goes into the exact location for both pan and filter? Is that correct?

Transmission shifts perfectly. Thanks for watching.
What would metal filings in the fluid mean for the transmission?

El transfer no lleva aceite para caja manual 80w-90?
Revisa el manual del propietario. Pero mi camión llama a la ATF.

What would no upshift be ?

Thanks I’ll change the fluid and filter .The fluid looks a little brown and hopefully not a rebuild
was there a gasket between the filter and the valve body ?
There was no gasket. The filter had a little raised bead that makes the seal.
@@DickShaw Thank you! Also do you remember if you transferred the pick up tube from the old filter to the new filter ? How tight of a fit was it ?
Yes I transferred the tube and it was not real snug but snug enough to hold it in place.@@feelvivek

Pretty sure your supposed to be using type f

Which transfer case did ford use on the f-250 ?
Np205

I thought ford only used the np205 in the seventies
