I went in December for two weeks. All of it was pretty awesome. I liked the surfing bit. I'm from a beach area so it was cool to see people surfing on a river and being really polite taking turns. It was nice to walk around and the people I stayed with were my tour guides so they explained all the history to me. I learned I was very out of shape though.
I was in Munich for two months as a teen. I stayed with my aunt and uncle slightly outside the center. I had one of those railway passes that you could also use for free busses and subways. I went everyday and explored the city. So I know it well. Nice city.
Thank you for this! My husband and I are from the US and were supposed to go to Munich (our first time to Germany!) back in April, but was canceled due the pandemic 😭 this was a nice treat to see you guys doing all the things we had wanted to see (and eat!!)

The trick is to live in either the suburbs or in bigger cities that are still part of the region. I used to commute from Landshut to Munich on a daily basis and takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. My hometown (Landshut) is still very affordable. CHECK IT OUT!!!

Augsburg is also a very beautiful city, close to Munich, a lot of water in the city (two rivers and a lot of small channels in the old town) and it's quite green, there's a big forest only about 3 kilometres from the city center
@@sylviajustice5013 It's not that big (300.000 inhabitants), but there's everything you need in everyday life, and you are also in about 35 to 40 minutes by train in the city centre of munich ;)

Leberkäs outside Bavaria must have liver in it (i think it was 5% or so) then it's a Leberkäs, otherwise it's a Fleischkäs. In Franconia (part of Bavaria) there you may get a Leberkäse or a Fleischkäs when you order a Leberkäs, it depends on the butcher and his products. It's a difficult topic, just look at the Leberkäs, with liver it's grayish, Fleischkäs looks rather like meat.

sorry in advance for my bad english. i missed the opportunity to give you some advice for munich/bavaria. living in the center of munich is mostly no option for anyone but you can still get into the surrounding areas like "Aubing/Fürstenfeldbruck" and other close by citys. The train connection to munich is insane and you are pretty fast in the center. also you forgot to visit the great lakes in bavaria which are not that far away and i guess Deana would hve loved the alps
Your editing skills are really improving! This was by far the most visually interesting video you've posted. Then, add in the fact that you two look like you are on your honeymoon, and this is easily your all-time best. Phil acts so young and excited to be visiting the grave of his lost youth, and Deana is clearly getting off on feeling this from him. Just saw this video for the first time. I love Munich, spent three weeks there back in 1987. I not only fell in love with the City, I fell in love. Did not want to leave. I hope to get there again, but as you mentioned it is the most expensive city in Germany. I live in one of the cheapest, Leipzig. One of these days though, I might be able to spend a day or two. I'm jealous!
Hi guys, I recommend Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Northern Bavaria. It is a great little town to experience, and probably not that expensive due to its small size
I'd rate Leberkäse 10 - but I'm from Munich so I'm heavily biased. But also depends where you get it. You should try Kas-Kas. Which is Leberkäse with huge chunks of big melted cheese baked into it. 🤤🤤🤤
Restaurant Rosengarten, that is were we had our wedding in 1990. It was wonderfull. Actually, the Westpark was build for the Bundesgartenschau, the federal garden exhibition in 1983.
Not all of that stuff is as old as it looks. You can certainly find genuine Renaissance, Baroque and Classical architecture there, but also lots of "retro" buildings. Which was a very big thing in the late 19th century. The city hall for example was only built around 1900
I would suggest visiting or living Bamberg in Bavaria. It’s my home town and loved growing up there. It’s not too big either and has lots of old buildings, history, food places and nature spots.
I totally agree with you! I lived in Bamberg in the early 70’s and loved it! Enjoyed walking around the town, by the Dom, by the Town Hall on the island in the Regnitz, I think, seeing the flower vendors, and seeing the Pauli Bear in the Castle on the hill above the town. Deanna and Phil SHOULD go there!!!
As far as places to visit, I apologize for not having seen every video. My family lived in Bamberg and Fulda in the 1990’s, and my family is from Trier, Goettingen, and Berlin (the Lambio and von Zengen families). I would love to see Trier, Goettingen, and Saarland since I never got to go there. Bamberg (Unteraurach) was nearly 30 years ago, but I remember it being so pretty in the countryside. Fulda was living on the Kaserne, so it was boring architecturally. Tschuss!
I envy you for living in Bamberg, as I lived there for two years in the early 70’s while in the Army. Loved Germany, it’s culture, geography, and most importantly, it’s people!
While stationed in Ansbach 1980 - 1983, I would go down to Munich about 4 times a year. Loved being there and my family did too. so many places to visit, so much history. Can't say what is my favorite, I loved all of Germany (it was West Germany back then).
I thought for sure you'd show an Olympic venue since the Olympics were held there once. Olympic cities always attract world class athletes to live there because there's a venue to train at. It's also why those cities are expensive to live in.
Love Münich! So many familiar places in your video. It is the plan for my wife and I to spend 3 months there each year in retirement. It is a great hub to fan out to other cities and regions.
10-15 years ago i went karlsruhe for 2 weeks (workrelated) and one evening went to something called Andreasbräu, and got some sausage with beermustard and ofc beer (recomended by the staff that complimented the sausage) and it was like fireworks in my mouth, magic.
Come to Weißenburg it’s a small city but then your close to Munich and Nürnberg and it’s cheaper to live I like it here there are lakes close by and a lot of forest it might not be as exiting as the big city’s but it’s a nice place to live and Nürnberger is 58 k away Munich 98 k Ingolstadt about 50 k so you have a little city we’re you can walk every we’re and if you want high life it’s not far to drive to or even faster with the train and cheaper
Enjoyed the video very much. Both of you are really good hosts. Munich's town hall is really beautiful and impressive. An amazing building. Btw, other people have already mentioned this but "Frauenkirche" translates to "Church of Our Lady", eg. the Virgin Mary. I love the way that buildings in the historical centres of European cities are built in similar styles so they look harmonious together whereas in North America, landowners have built buildings over the years with different heights and different styles, which may not look so great together. Very little town planning. I look forward to checking out your other videos.
München ist ein ganz wunderbare Stadt, mein Bruder lebt dort seit vielen Jahren in der Nähe vom Südpark, Obersendling und ich genieße die Zeit dort immer sehr, die Biergärten sind wirklich schön und die Stadt hat auch viele grüne Bereiche. Der Kartoffelsalat dürfte wohl aus dem Bottich sein, kein selbstgemachter und das schmeckt man auch oftmals. Vielleicht kennst du den Augustiner Schützengarten in der Nähe von Mittelsendling, sehr gutes Essen, kann ich nur empfehlen.

@@DeanaandPhil Btw I rate Leberkäs a 7 out of 10 probably. It's not my favorite food but delicious every now and then. However some variations are too greasy and you never know beforehand. As for sweet mustard, love it - I strongly dislike white wurst though!! 🤮
Oh! It's such a pity! Everyone who talks about Bavaria immediately thinks of Munich or maybe even Nuremberg. But the no less beautiful Augsburg is simply left out. If you want to live in Bavaria, Augsburg is certainly not the cheapest place to live, but it is still cheaper than Munich and you still have the proximity to Munich to be there in a good half hour by train. The next best and smaller alternative would be Landsberg am Lech. A city with a great old town and thanks to the Autobahn, Munich is easy to reach. Maybe you should consider Bavaria after all and maybe look a little to the right or left of Munich.
I am from Munich, but have been living abroad for more than 20 years now. If I were to move back to Germany, Augsburg would be one of my favourites, because people there are really nice. I still like Munich, but it's so expensive!

In Switzerland we call Leberkäse "Fleischkäse". Drachenseestrasse is an awesome name. Wait the apartment at the top is the least expensive? I can't imagine that. Here they are always the most expensive because they have the best view.
Food related things from bavaria always remind me how much more austrian than german bavaria is in its heart.... (Käsespätzle, Leberkäse, Kaiserschmarrn -> i always connect those with austria Döner -> neutral for me (means: dosen't connect to any country, just europe only Weißwurst i really do connect to bavaria)
@@anashiedler6926 Kässpätzle or Käsknöpfle originate from the alemannic areas of Southern Germany and Western Austria (Oberschwaben/Upper Swabia, Allgäu and Vorarlberg). Leberkäs is also a typical southern german food (Swabia and Bavaria) that found its way to Austria. Only Kaiserschmarrn would be considered a typical Austrian Dish. Even though there is a Swabian "Mehlspeise" called "Kratzete" which is very similiar to Kaiserschmarrn.
I love Kaiserschmarrn. I ate it every chance I could when I was in Austria. I explained it to my friends here in the US as cut up pancakes with sugar. I had it with apples and one place served it with honey

Have y'all already been to Freiburg or Heidelberg? I like Karlsruhe, but it's a bit more modern (very young city by German standards). In terms of non-German cities to visit, I highly recommend Gröningen in the Netherlands! It's like a tiny version of Amsterdam. It's so walkable and really picturesque.
München ist so toll! Aber im Schwobaländle ischs au schee. Versucht es doch mal mit Esslingen/Neckar. Sehr schöne Innenstadt, berühmter Weihnachtsmarkt, oft nah am Wasser (Stichwort: Klein-Venedig) und jede Menge Essen zum Probieren! Auf jeden Fall mal in einen Besen gehen und eure geliebten Döner gibt's auch! 😁

Just saw this video for the first time. I love Munich, spent three weeks there back in 1987. I not only fell in love with the City, I fell in love. Did not want to leave. I hope to get there again, but as you mentioned it is the most expensive city in Germany. I live in one of the cheapest, Leipzig. One of these days though, I might be able to spend a day or two. I'm jealous!

Hi guys, I recommend Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Northern Bavaria. It is a great little town to experience, and probably not that expensive due to its small size

I'd rate Leberkäse 10 - but I'm from Munich so I'm heavily biased. But also depends where you get it. You should try Kas-Kas. Which is Leberkäse with huge chunks of big melted cheese baked into it. 🤤🤤🤤

Restaurant Rosengarten, that is were we had our wedding in 1990. It was wonderfull. Actually, the Westpark was build for the Bundesgartenschau, the federal garden exhibition in 1983.
I used to be in Munich a lot up til 2009 and I was always in Sendling. Nice to see the Westpark footage, but I didn't see the lake with the turtles.

Not all of that stuff is as old as it looks. You can certainly find genuine Renaissance, Baroque and Classical architecture there, but also lots of "retro" buildings. Which was a very big thing in the late 19th century. The city hall for example was only built around 1900

I would suggest visiting or living Bamberg in Bavaria. It’s my home town and loved growing up there. It’s not too big either and has lots of old buildings, history, food places and nature spots.
I totally agree with you! I lived in Bamberg in the early 70’s and loved it! Enjoyed walking around the town, by the Dom, by the Town Hall on the island in the Regnitz, I think, seeing the flower vendors, and seeing the Pauli Bear in the Castle on the hill above the town. Deanna and Phil SHOULD go there!!!
How about Würzburg, lots of Wine, awsome river with hills filed with wine. Has a Munich feel on the small scale. Great castles and palaces.

As far as places to visit, I apologize for not having seen every video. My family lived in Bamberg and Fulda in the 1990’s, and my family is from Trier, Goettingen, and Berlin (the Lambio and von Zengen families). I would love to see Trier, Goettingen, and Saarland since I never got to go there. Bamberg (Unteraurach) was nearly 30 years ago, but I remember it being so pretty in the countryside. Fulda was living on the Kaserne, so it was boring architecturally. Tschuss!
I envy you for living in Bamberg, as I lived there for two years in the early 70’s while in the Army. Loved Germany, it’s culture, geography, and most importantly, it’s people!
While stationed in Ansbach 1980 - 1983, I would go down to Munich about 4 times a year. Loved being there and my family did too. so many places to visit, so much history. Can't say what is my favorite, I loved all of Germany (it was West Germany back then).
I thought for sure you'd show an Olympic venue since the Olympics were held there once. Olympic cities always attract world class athletes to live there because there's a venue to train at. It's also why those cities are expensive to live in.
Love Münich! So many familiar places in your video. It is the plan for my wife and I to spend 3 months there each year in retirement. It is a great hub to fan out to other cities and regions.

10-15 years ago i went karlsruhe for 2 weeks (workrelated) and one evening went to something called Andreasbräu, and got some sausage with beermustard and ofc beer (recomended by the staff that complimented the sausage) and it was like fireworks in my mouth, magic.
Come to Weißenburg it’s a small city but then your close to Munich and Nürnberg and it’s cheaper to live I like it here there are lakes close by and a lot of forest it might not be as exiting as the big city’s but it’s a nice place to live and Nürnberger is 58 k away Munich 98 k Ingolstadt about 50 k so you have a little city we’re you can walk every we’re and if you want high life it’s not far to drive to or even faster with the train and cheaper

Enjoyed the video very much. Both of you are really good hosts. Munich's town hall is really beautiful and impressive. An amazing building. Btw, other people have already mentioned this but "Frauenkirche" translates to "Church of Our Lady", eg. the Virgin Mary. I love the way that buildings in the historical centres of European cities are built in similar styles so they look harmonious together whereas in North America, landowners have built buildings over the years with different heights and different styles, which may not look so great together. Very little town planning. I look forward to checking out your other videos.
München ist ein ganz wunderbare Stadt, mein Bruder lebt dort seit vielen Jahren in der Nähe vom Südpark, Obersendling und ich genieße die Zeit dort immer sehr, die Biergärten sind wirklich schön und die Stadt hat auch viele grüne Bereiche.
Der Kartoffelsalat dürfte wohl aus dem Bottich sein, kein selbstgemachter und das schmeckt man auch oftmals.
Vielleicht kennst du den
Augustiner Schützengarten in der Nähe von Mittelsendling, sehr gutes Essen, kann ich nur empfehlen.

@@DeanaandPhil Btw I rate Leberkäs a 7 out of 10 probably. It's not my favorite food but delicious every now and then. However some variations are too greasy and you never know beforehand. As for sweet mustard, love it - I strongly dislike white wurst though!! 🤮
Munich is my home city! Liked the Englischer Garten and the area around chinese tower!
Oh! It's such a pity! Everyone who talks about Bavaria immediately thinks of Munich or maybe even Nuremberg. But the no less beautiful Augsburg is simply left out. If you want to live in Bavaria, Augsburg is certainly not the cheapest place to live, but it is still cheaper than Munich and you still have the proximity to Munich to be there in a good half hour by train. The next best and smaller alternative would be Landsberg am Lech. A city with a great old town and thanks to the Autobahn, Munich is easy to reach.
Maybe you should consider Bavaria after all and maybe look a little to the right or left of Munich.
I am from Munich, but have been living abroad for more than 20 years now. If I were to move back to Germany, Augsburg would be one of my favourites, because people there are really nice. I still like Munich, but it's so expensive!

@@anashiedler6926 Kässpätzle or Käsknöpfle originate from the alemannic areas of Southern Germany and Western Austria (Oberschwaben/Upper Swabia, Allgäu and Vorarlberg). Leberkäs is also a typical southern german food (Swabia and Bavaria) that found its way to Austria. Only Kaiserschmarrn would be considered a typical Austrian Dish. Even though there is a Swabian "Mehlspeise" called "Kratzete" which is very similiar to Kaiserschmarrn.

I love Kaiserschmarrn. I ate it every chance I could when I was in Austria. I explained it to my friends here in the US as cut up pancakes with sugar. I had it with apples and one place served it with honey

Have y'all already been to Freiburg or Heidelberg? I like Karlsruhe, but it's a bit more modern (very young city by German standards). In terms of non-German cities to visit, I highly recommend Gröningen in the Netherlands! It's like a tiny version of Amsterdam. It's so walkable and really picturesque.

Aber im Schwobaländle ischs au schee. Versucht es doch mal mit Esslingen/Neckar. Sehr schöne Innenstadt, berühmter Weihnachtsmarkt, oft nah am Wasser (Stichwort: Klein-Venedig) und jede Menge Essen zum Probieren! Auf jeden Fall mal in einen Besen gehen und eure geliebten Döner gibt's auch! 😁
