I can confirm. Note that all 3 of the new gen 2 motors (1100, 800, and 650kv) are the same length (ie 119.2mm). It hits the steering linkage, and you cannot dremel out enough material to fit it. You’d think hobbywing would have tried to make them just slightly shorter so that they could sell to all the Kraton/Outcast population. Huge missed opportunity IMO
I’m a huge fan of Castile Creations products, but since Hobbywing dropped the new lineup, I bought the Max 4 combo 560kv for my Losi DBXl-E 2.0 and upgraded from the XLX2 1100kv combo to the Max 5 G2 800kv combo for the Kraton 8S. I can honestly say Hobbywing is killing it right now.
Hobby wing is definitely making some pretty compelling options lately. Not only are they upping the game on their high-end stuff but they're also upping their game on the budget stuff. Castle really just doesn't have an answer to a lot of what they're offering.

Please Hobbywing i beg of you please make a G2 Max 6 1,650KV Combo i want one for my XO-1 and VTE2 and my future Infraction V2.

Much better than castle cremations for bashing. Went thru 2 XLX2 in my outcast 8s, swapped to max5 geared to go the same speed, haven’t lost one yet. Guy on the phone at castle says it’s technically only a 160a continuous ESC but they don’t rate it since it doesn’t have current protection for speed running. Current max 5 is 200a, So 250 amps from the new max5 will be even better 💪
Yeah I think it's going to be a great improvement over the Max 5. Can't wait to get mine :-) still trying to figure out if I'm going to go 12S on my xmax

Guy from my basher group has lost 3 XLX2 now. The fact that this thing is only a 160A continous ESC, despite running so cool, is mind boggling; especially for the price they are asking. So far only one MAX5 broke in my entire basher group, which was due to too tight cables pulling on the connector sideways.
@xXYannuschXx I know the XLX2 had some issues in the beginning but I've seen a lot fewer torched recently. That being said Castle seems to have quite a lot fewer built-in protections on their ESCs which is why most speedrunners use them. This tends to lead to them catastrophically failing more often though. Thanks for watching!

Technically yes but the max 5G2 really doesn't seem to like running with non-sensored motors. As a really weird annoying hesitation on takeoff that's not actually cogging
That's no good. What setup were you running it in and with what battery? I've heard a few reports of these catching fire but no more than any other ESC on the market.
Quick ? I have the max 5 esc with a hobbywing 800kv motor sensor less. I’m planning on keeping the 800kv motor it’s brand new. Would it be worth it for me to upgrade to this over the regular max 5 esc any input would be awesome thank you!
I can't say for sure because I don't have it yet but I bet it would be. Even on 8S you're going to have more power and it will run cooler. You also have the ability to run the BEC at a higher voltage if your servo can handle that. And also has some nice to have like data logging a better fan cooler running etc.
Man this new esc has me thinking now lol looks really cool and I could always use more power and not to mention a spare max 5 esc I hope these go on sale soon!
As I sit here holding a new in box Max6, the only advantage is size and price. But you are giving up 50 amps. Cool though, as 12s has so far been worthless to me both in my Losi MTXL and my Primal Gravedigger. But....I have a friend with one of those old quarter scale Thunderbirds that I have been trying to get from him for a few months. That might work.
From what I've seen it doesn't look like it's going to fit with the stock motor mount setup. I think that aftermarket chassis allow for longer motors though.
@@coolhawk2003 okay yeah I guess I'm still a little confused. I don't edit out any of my crashes. I'm not sure if I'm even going to run it on 12S or not but if I do I fully expect things to break. Even on 8S it's still going to be an upgrade since It has a 50 amp higher continuous current rating. The motor is going to be quite a bit bigger than the 1100 KV im currently running to. But yeah I don't hide anything on this channel. If it happens you'll see it.
This is a massive increase in power forget it's only 50A more constant. If you take a full charged lipo under load is 4V ish. 8S 200A is 6400W 12S 250A is 12000W. Watts is the measure of power not V or A
@@gboulter I think there is a reason no one uses hobbywing for speed runs. They limit the amps/rpms so even the max 4 doesn't put out as much as the xlx2.

That was actually a problem that the XLX2 had in the beginning of its production but doesn't really happen as often anymore. That being said in my experience and understanding the hobbywing ESCs are a lot more locked down to prevent overload so they generally aren't as susceptible to catastrophic failure as Castle ESCs. That's why you see Castle ESCs in speedrun cars for the most part. They can be pushed harder.
I think it'll depend on what your application's going to be. For all out speed running probably not but for bashing it could make a pretty compelling option especially at the price.
Yeah it's a little frustrating that they don't have a length that will readily fit the 8S arrmas. Of course you can always just use the ESC with a different motor but I agree The 1100 KV should have been shorter.
@@DoRC I think the 650kv should be 56120, the 800kv should be 56110, and the 1100kv should be 56100, so it makes sense, fits everywhere and easy to differentiate.

I think the motor itself will be pretty similar. Primarily it will just have the addition of the sensor system.

I'm not sure exactly what the limits are but it comes as a combo with an 1100 KV, 800 KV and 650 KV motor so that range at least is good.

Yes any ESC that has a sensored option can also run sensorless motors. You were just not hook up to the sensor wire.

The max4 has most of the G2 features already so I think it'll be a while before we see another version of it.

@@DoRC you can rotate the motor mount 180° in the K8 and O8, but you remove a battery tray. Really not ideal.
