Are there any roof truss places around you? They always have a ton of cut offs and if you leave a trailer there they’ll fill them for free usually. No nails. That thing looks awesome. Do you use it to heat your house?
There are some, and I have burned truss cutoffs in the past. But the pallets are 2-6 miles away, while the truss shops are ~20 miles so it's a farther drive. I don't mind the nails, I just took 400 lbs of nails to the scrap yard a mile away and got 8 cents a pound for them.
Yes, this winter is the first for heating the house. So far so good! The thermostat is set to 75F and it has no trouble keeping up even in -11F outside temp.
@@dansw0rkshop that’s pretty awesome honestly. Are you planning on having an auto feed type of system at some point? How often do you have to stoke it to maintain 75°. I suppose I should watch more and find out.
@@MikesMischief Two firings a day in most of the weather which is in the teens F, and three firings when it was both -11 and laundry day (we also heat the domestic hot water with a heat exchanger on the burner).
@@MikesMischief No plans for auto feed. I have thought of fitting a waste oil burner, but there are also logistics with gathering the oil to deal with.
Good timing on this project, when you consider the high energy costs we are facing.
