Wow, I love the little detail in Gus offering to clean his watch because it symbolizes that the watch is dirty because it was just in the trash.
Bravo, Vince! Bravo! 👏
Swing and a miss 😂
The fact that enough people have watched this in the first 12 hours to account for just over 10% of the channel’s subscribers (115k subs and 150k views) is astonishing to me…
I think the watch symbolizes both Jimmy's & Gus's weaknesses for money & pride. Both Jimmy's act of dropping the watch & Gus's act of letting go of the watch symbolize their shared desire to escape being slaves to capitalism. Truly one of the scenes of all time.
I interpreted it as Gus’ informal attempt to get Jimmy to hang back a few seconds longer to get a better ‘scent’ of him.
What a nice man that Gus guy is. He's the owner of the restaurant but he's out there cleaning the tables and picking up trash. Such an upstanding and wholesome member of the community.
He also supports Blue Lives Matter 🥹🙏

Gus' demeanor is just so friendly and charming. Its crazy to think it's all a charade. And what an insane performance from Gian Carlo.
His Spanish is shockingly bad
It makes me wonder if this is the real Gus, while his connections to the underworld made him adapt and become a monster for survival.
@@keithh273idk seems like he was a bit of a shady character considering his ambiguous background in Chile

I lost ALL respect for Giancarlo when he took up the Spanish-speaking parts of the series with zero study or preparation. It was just so inexcusably awful and cringey to watch for anyone who understands native-level Spanish, much less Chilean accents.

I love how Gus is a millionaire but he still takes his time to do simple activities around the restaurant.
The guy just want everything perfect and under his control, that's his obssession
To be fair, that's what most Chik Fil A owners do as well
The appearance of normality is important to a savvy criminal mastermind.
Normal activies, and mundane tasks give the impression of an everyday man trying to get by.
Gotta stay grounded, fam
What else is he gonna do?
I love that we're shown how hard Jimmy tries to go unnoticed and blend in with his environment while in the background we see the master of hiding in plain sight and he's purposefully indirectly shown to us for 2 weirdly long shots of Jimmy's face lol
Jimmy's a con man, he's focused on the one guy. As long as that guy doesn't notice he's being watched, Jimmy's meeting his goals as far as he's concerned. But to an observant third party, like the audience or Gus, it's very obvious that he's watching this one guy
Ironically this makes Jimmy's quick thinking with the watch kinda backfire--if Gus knows he's acting suspicious, then he'll know that Jimmy probably didn't actually lose his watch, which means Jimmy must be clever, think quick on his feet, and is probably experienced at this kind of thing. Gus gets a full read on Jimmy, without ever having to reveal himself at all, and Jimmy's too busy trying to not blow his cover that he's not even looking for anything suspicious
@@dandelionthief3979 that's insane writing honestly

This is without a doubt the best way that BCS ever brought back a character from “Breaking Bad.” If you had watched BB, it was practically obvious that Gus was the one moving around Jimmy and you were on the edge of your seat waiting for it to be made official. If you hadn’t seen BB, it was still made clear that the character was very important. Such excellent framing 💯
That way they framed his double cheeks tho 😩 Bravo Vince, excellent work as always.
The framing and introduction of Gus in BCS was perfect. Gus was blurred out in the background, cleaning and bussing tables. As he got closer, his head was never in the frame. He was moving around people, invisible to everyone, including Saul. Amazing introduction to a top-tier villain.

“This watch I got here was first purchased by your great grandfather during the First World War. It was bought from a little general store in Knoxville, Tennessee, made by the first company to ever make wristwatches. Up until then people just [chuckles] carried pocket watches. It was bought by Private Doughboy Ryan Coolidge on the day he set sail for Paris.”
It's a vague fisting reference, but I'd like to believe Saul Goodman knows for a fact the watch he's wearing was involved in some grievous torture before he got it as compensation.

It is so sad to me that this is their only seen together, their characters complement each other so well, it almost makes me wish Gus blackmailed Jimmy instead of Nacho
My guess is it's because they really have no affinity for each other given that Jimmy is chaotic neutral and Gus is lawful evil. It's probably why Gus typically sent Mike who is lawful neutral to deal with Jimmy instead given they at least have some affinity as neutral characters.
Wouldn't have worked with the continuity anyhow. Saul and Gus never interact directly in Breaking Bad and Saul wasn't even aware of Gus being the Meth Distributor as Mike kept that information from him.
yeah it is sad , 😢
@@craigore2011lawful?
Yes, I understand your confusion about that. A big misconception about being "lawful" in terms of this morality system is that it doesn't mean adhering to laws as written but to one's own established sense of right and wrong which Gus does as a very orderly person with a strong tendency to do what is "right" even if it's evil or illegal as hell. "Chaotic," the opposite of lawful, is not giving a shit even if one knows it's wrong which better describes the Salamancas and Saul Goodman.

When I first watched this episode it was killing me that Gus was just hovering around fully aware of the situation cleaning up like any old restaurant manager /worker! 😂
His mule was in the building so he was high alert, he was pretending to be busy so he could watch for any suspicious behaviour
I wish they had another interaction before BB. Like Saul stops by to eat or order food home then Gus kindly talks to him again.

Wow, I love the subtle detail of Gus wearing a yellow shirt, because a chicken's skin is slightly yellow, and they work in....a fried chicken restaurant! Such brilliant writing.
I like how, they used the background noise of the restaurant, instead of using music, it made it feel like your were there...
No doubt borrowed from the restaurant scene in "The Godfather": no background music, until *after* Michael whacks Sollozzo and Capt McCluskey.
"Help me step-Gus, I'm stuck"
😐....😂
I love that they include the spinning fan on the ceiling which has is meaningful on several levels. First, it signifies that it’s New Mexico and its hot there. More importantly, it signifies that it’s going to get insanely hot for Gus when the bomb blows up in his final scene!
That’s reaching a bit far buddy😂
The moving, circular motion of the fans are also a definitive and deliberate creative decision to showcase the concept and nature of ''cycles'' - how most characters go through the same ''cycle'' as others - having a lucky break, experiencing success and then experiencing their own downfall from their own decision, greed and all.
Evidently wrote and planned by the showrunners - I expected nothing less than seeing those fans, used both literally and symbolically!
Bravo Vince!
It also signifies that we are all fans of the show
I see now how it was there to symbolize the downward spiral of all the corrupt characters in the Breaking Bad universe.
3:16 "Ah! There it is. Right behind the camera."
Shame to throw away a nice camera 😞
love the detail in saul still looking for something in the trash even after gus found his watch
If Jimmy never met Gus, breaking bad would be a very different show.
Love the camera work, with Gus out of focus during most of the scene. Then...."Can I help you?"
Great scene!
You know this is the only time Jimmy and Gus meet each other ONCE. You never see the interaction of these 2 again throughout Breaking Bad.
Bravo Vince!! Jimmy and Gus, two ordinary individuals rummaging through garbage in search of valuables, can symbolize the quest for meaning in everyday life. The golden watches they are trying to retrieve represent a commonly accepted symbol of status and success. However, the fact that these watches are found in a trash bin suggests that the values and ideals we pursue can be relative and subject to change.
This scene can also be interpreted as an allegory for true existential wealth, which is often missed when we focus solely on material possessions. Jimmy and Gus, overcoming their aversion to garbage, search among it for something valuable, reflecting the human capacity to find beauty and worth in the most unlikely of places.
Definitely wondering if Gus put a guy on Jimmy to watch him until he was sure of Mike’s intentions.
Mad props to the production for recruiting the Sun, im sure it was mighty hot to get it to show up and bring in just the right amount of lighting

It's interesting that, as far as I can remember, this is the ONLY time Jimmy/Saul and Gus ever interact in either show.
Gus actually enjoys running the restaurant
02:36 This moment Saul Goodman becomes Mr. Bean
I like this scene because Gus is subtly testing out Jimmy behind his friendly guise. He says ‘if it’s in here…’ which I think is a subtle implication/warning that he better not be lying, then when he finds it he realises Jimmy is a lot smarter than he looks (given how quickly he thought to actually drop his watch in there to have an excuse to be looking in a bin).
Also when he offers to clean it in a friendly way (maybe to take it away to install a tracker?) and Jimmy politely refuses, he realises Jimmy is not a mug/too gullible. He managed to ascertain quite a bit about Jimmy’s character simply from being friendly with him.
A tracker in his wrist watch ? Man that would be one small device to go unnoticed ? I bet he keeps such things in his office at the resteraunt along with watch tools to dissaseble and hide tiny trackers in peoples watches 😂😂😂😂😂
Gus is interesting. He’s so solitary and confident. He keeps a good eye on his business by sweeping, cleaning and helping with customer service.
I can’t help but wonder that since his background can’t be found prior to 1986 that he may have been on Pinochet’s elite “security” guys who disappear people and coherce agreements with the regime. So when Pinochet was ousted they gave him a new identity. Because he’s so able to rise above emotion and look simply for the yes/no answer. An answer that takes deep thinking when he has no time to think yet he stays cool and aloof. Like he’s such a finely trained special guard near the top all emotions have been wiped away. His guy feelings and intuition work exceptionally well for him.

What a kind and helpful manager! I sure hope he gets to play some bigger, positive role in this series
The sound in bb /bcs along with the detailed shots and world building is what does it for me. Its immersive.
This man Gus Fring, was an honest legitimate business owner who built himself here in America after escaping the Pinochet regime in Chile. He was a man of the community. Sadly he died in a terrorist attack while visiting an Elderly old man. that's how empathic he was. Even took from his own busy time to see and visit the elderly. Such an inspiration.
If only every USA fast-food restaurant were operated by a manager as superlative as Gus!
The reason why Gus asked for Jimmy's watch was to check if the watch clasp was really broken. It's just brilliant.
Gus doesnt do it for the money. I think he does it simply because he can. The whole drug kingpin thing I mean.
Is this the only time these two meet, ever?
One of my favourite scenes. Jimmy's laser eyes on the random bag guy 👀 meanwhile Gus is stood right next to him 🧐
I think Gus specifically went that route in sweeping so he can tell the guy with the bag "You're being watched" in a whisper and used the noise of the dustpan to cover it.
1:08 - 1:16
He may have seen from the distance in the background of Jimmy watching the guy with the bag, walked past him sweeping to be sure, and then tip the guy off hes being watched.
