S/O to Mike, He's helped me out a bunch of times at Richard's Tackle with Jig selection and tips to get bit, caught my 1rst BFT last year off of that same West Coast Jiggerz KB 250g Thanks Mike!!! Super informative video and Thanks for Sharing!!!
Thanks! We were super stoked to have Mike and James join us and share their knowledge and insight with everybody - good luck this season!
Sam Wright I was with them 9:50 . They'll go to the bow and drop and walk back to the Stern and got a bit.
I fished with James back when he just started out on the San Diego and he killed fish on his technique with all of us watching him get bit when no one could he did it over and over……it’s a proven technique hands down. So glad to see you and West Coast Jiggerz come up in SD!
Thanks for having him on your show Toni!
Haha that's a great story! It definitely works - thanks for watching!
Phil sam was Right. They started at the bow and when they drop down and he walked back to the Stern, and thus when he got bit. I was with them every time it was hard staying awake. But it was a great trip. I'm gonna do it again with you guys
Hi sam and phil Great trip. One thing I like about this trip when people didn't have the right stuff. Other guys stepped up helping to catch the fish of their dream. That's what you call real fishing
Having fished Socal the past 3 years. It still amazes me how googan the setups and mindsets are. It's honestly like a time traveler bringing futuristic gear and tech onto the sport boats at times. In truth though, it's great to see that jigging is evolving for the better in Socal. Still love the unique culture it has and looking forward to see where it all goes!
It'll be interesting to see how our techniques and gear evolve over the next couple of seasons as more and more people start utilizing proven techniques that have worked for years and years in other parts of the world. If it leads to us catching more fish, we're in!
@BDOutdoorsdotcom thankyou, cus I've been fishing for over 40yrs and I've never failed at fishing and to have somebody tell me this is better than yours, it's ludicrous.
Fantastic info from a great team at West Coast Jiggerz, happy to see all your hard work paying off and the innovation to take our fishing to another level!!
Thanks! Appreciate you tuning in. Was a pleasure to have these guys in the studio and we're very grateful for their knowledge and insight.
Great video
Fished with James and Mike on a trip once and it was just as fun taking a break from the action watching them worked those rods and jigs… their jigs not only get you bit but their custom rods are hands down some of the best in the industry!
Love to hear it!
tonie ya dod very well with and love the middle class rod for jigging if i ever get out there 😅😅😅😅😅
Can you make a follow up video with Mike and James and go over the actual technique on how to retrieve the jigs, motion of the rod, slow, fast retrieve, which type of jigs to choose, how to decide which knife jigs to use ie.. JB vs HD, does color really matter et... They're both successful fishermen and I think they would be a treasure trove of information. There's so many jigs out in the market and no one really knows which one is better over the other. I've only seen one video that's been done that's relevant to SOCAL jig fishing. Most of videos I've seen were made in Southeast Asia or Japan and not really meant for BFT fishing here in SOCAL. That'll be a good ad for Mike and James and it'll be a good sequel. Please.
Awesome video! 👌
Thanks David, really appreciate it!
So dope! Held the rod in my hands, so light. I’m still amazed how much power they have. Go WCJ, jigging game strong 🤙
It's pretty incredible how well they can handle big fish!
Great vid you guys.
Thanks! Hope it helps - tight lines!
Hooooook up!!!! Thanks Mike can't wait to use my jig this season!!!!! 🐟🎣 Rosemead por vida 🤣✊️👊
Yewww!
Been fishing tuna for over 40 years and this video show how wrong we were with our jigging equipment.
There's always room to learn something new - glad this video helped!
Been using their jigs for the past 2 seasons. They work great! Hope to fish with them one day
Glad to hear it! They'll be fishing all season, so hopefully your paths cross at some point and y'all can bend on fish together 🤙
Great job new technique
It's killer!
Thanks
Welcome! Thanks for tuning in!
tonie yall did very well
thanks! Stay tuned for some more tackle tips coming up!
Just bought my 1st kb knife jig 400 g blue/pink. Look fwd to putting it to use.
I just am not prepared to buy a bunch of new jigging rigs. Glad ive boated bft up to 268# on my regular UC/avet combos. Makes me not so urgent in dropping thousands more $$
Tony Congratulations
Thanks!
Good looking jigs. Any luck using candy bar iron?
What is the knot you use? Looks like you doubled it through the solid ring but I couldn’t follow the rest. Thank you for sharing , great video !
It's called a chain knot!
What brand line PE do you have on the oceajigger 4000 thats metered?
Can these rods be use for fly lining live bait? And are they better paired with conventional than spinning reels? Ty in advance
the rod rating pe3-pe6 would be similar to Uc , calstar seeker etc, 30- 60 ??
Yeeeaaaah he’s said that lol
Thanks for sharing!
They mentioned using mono, I guess when jigging, fluorocarbon isn't necessary?
It's really personal preference. If you feel that fishing fluorocarbon is going to increase your chances of getting a bite, it's certainly fine to fish. Personally they will just fish a 15-20 foot piece of monofilament straight tied to their jig.
Can you do tutorial on chain knot
Thanks for the suggestion, we will work on getting that up!
I don't see the punch jig on the website. where can i pick one up?
Check back soon! They're getting a new shipment of jigs in shortly.
What about the risk of the line getting damaged on the hull. With parabolic rods on charter dont you need to get the line away from the side?
Good question! There's definitely the risk of your line rubbing on the hull when fishing shorter rods, or any rod for that matter. You have to have quick reactions, and certainly the crew will do their best to assist you should this situation arise.
Can you give us the name of the rods
Im interested in the red one
It is called jigging, want the most off your jig to move realistic sounds like common sense,💯👍👍
Do the west coast jigger boys use swivels between the leaders and jig?
Good question! Personally, they do not. They use an FG knot to connect the braid to their leader and then use a chain knot to direct tie to the jig.
Any particular reason why you wouldn't need a swivel? Or is it one more point of failure? My logic would assume the swivel helps with the jig action and prevents line twist?
one moe point of failure plus you need to spend good $'s to get a quality BB sviwel. Only time I'd use a swivel is if I'm using a spinning outfit. The jig is connected via a solid ring + split ring. There's plenty freedom of movement here. @@ILGNR2
What lb leader would they be using during the night time jigging?
This is a personal preference decision, and the crew will also be able to recommend what will be best for you. Generally though you can get away with fishing much heavier line in the dark, so fishing 100lb, 130lb, 150lb or heavier are all options for night time jigging.
I know you're using the FG to tie the braid to the mono. What knot do you recommend when tying the lure using 80-100lb mono?
They like to use the chain knot, but we'd recommend tying whichever knot you're most comfortable with. If you're fishing on a sportboat, it's never a bad idea to ask the deckhands which knot they'd recommend using!
@@BDOutdoorsdotcom Thank you for the quick feedback!
Where can I find these rods and reels
phenixrods.com/product/megalodon-jigging-casting/
fish.shimano.com/content/fish/northamerica/us/en/homepage/Shimano_Product_Page.P-OCEA_JIGGER_19.html
Did I miss something or do they only run mono leader and no fluoro on their setups???
It's personal preference, but these guys straight tie either heavy mono or fluoro to their knife jig
You don't recommend a crimped leader? Is that because that is just one more thing that can fail? I only ask because im going on a 3 day, abd i made a bunch of crimped leaders.
Crimped leaders work great too! For Mike and James it's personal preference for them to a chain knot straight to the jig. It's an extremely strong knot and perfect for jigging applications because of the shock absorption. Nothing wrong with a crimped leader!
@@BDOutdoorsdotcom Right on man. Thanks for the reply and advice. Just scares the hell out of me to be lucky enough to hook one of these beasts and lose it because of my leaders. Haha. Thanks man.
@@Raiders1234 No worries! If you're going out on a sportboat just ask the deckhands to take a look at all your gear and if anything looks off they can definitely help you out!
I have a question what best gear ratio Shimano ocea jigger 4.1 or 5.1 jigging for yellow fin ?
The 4.1 is better
@@mattstoney397 thanks for answering.
So what does PE mean
Refers to how the rods and line are rated.
PE = Poly Ethylene. This is the material spectra/Dyneema lines are made into "braid"ed fishing lines.
Dammit can’t find any of their jigs anywhere. Sold out!😩😭🤣
They're that good!!
$1k for a single speed reel 😂
