High blood pressure is also caused by mental stress. Learning to stay calm, being patient, and having a humble attitude toward life and people will do more to lower your blood pressure than any medication can. Take care everybody. Aloha
I have been a caregiver for years, and now a survivor of open heart surgery and high blood pressure. A lot of this information is Very helpful for me, and easy to understand. There is so much information in this video, I will watch it again... probably a couple more times and take notes! thank you Dr. Robert Baron. God bless you....
Thank u so much for a very good lecture. I notice that my BP lowered when I retired early. Composure, less anxiety n inner peace helped me a lot although I am on Amlodipine 2.5 mgs daily. My BP is less than 120/80 however, I barely eat processed foods n active still at d age of 70 . Spiritual connection with God helps a lot with attaining inner peace because I tend to be less materialistic n happy with what I just have.
I am a retired critical care nurse who has attended countless lectures over the years and I must say this was an excellent presentation which gives the information in a clear, concise, unbiased manner.
@@rorytennes8576 You nailed it. With all the changes "in the literature", there is only one thing we can take home from this and that is: He's made a lot of money and still doesn't know. 🤣
Would you keep your patients on bp meds if their lifestyle changed like eating clean and lost over 80lbs.. pressure. My pressure is below 120/80 it never gets that high it’s normal all the time. The meds makes it drop low then i get lightheaded. I walk 15 miles a day. I think i need to come off meds because it stay a lil low.it’s normal always. My practitioner. Don’t want to stop the meds but it lower it when i take it. Because its pretty low already. Like 93/63 82/52 101/60.. when i take the meds im lightheaded or very tired or miserable. It use to be high but it never over 120/ 80. These are the reading i normally gets. My practitioner is pretty young i feel like she don’t really know a lot.
Had an outpatient surgery recently. After the anaesthetic wore off, they gave me a cup of coffee to help me come back to life. Then, ten minutes later, before discharging me, they took my BP, which was an astronomic 180 (systolic, of course). When I took it three hours later at home it was 135. Goes to show how variable the measurement is and how subject to external influences.
Increasing your potassium intake while reducing sodium is VERY effective in combination with weight loss, and exercise. I'm 72 years old, 6'0" and weighed 211 lbs. with a BP around 140-145 / 80-85. I dropped 31 lbs. with intermittent fasting over 5 months and have kept it off for about 7 months staying at 179-180 lbs. My BP is now around 115-120 / 60-65 with a home measurement.

Excellent. This was answers I needed. I have white coat syndrome, but I am not a smoker, overweight, or diabetic but am 63. This gives me a reasonable goal to work towards.
Having been a vascular ultrasound tech. I would strongly advise taking blood pressure from both arms at least when you first start seeing a patient. A patient may have arterial occlusion in one arm which will give a false lower number. Good point on the size of the cuff bigger the arm wider the cuff.
Very useful presentation, thank you doc! I am 67 years old, I have been suffering from high blood pressure for 10 years. I have 3 tonometers at home! And each of them shows the blood pressure level differently, there are always differences in measurements. But I already feel whether my blood pressure is too high. I immediately take Cardiform, it is based on hawthorn and melissa, it helps me very well.
My experience with Losartan was shocking. Suddenly, I couldn't understand what I was reading, and my numeracy took a nose dive. I'd read a paragraph in a novel and think "I have no idea what I just read." Stopped it after a few weeks and improved. Just adding this to the conversation. "Other medications are available."
I have no medical background but I'm an expert at googling my ailments. I really enjoyed this lecture. He made it easy for someone like me to understand. I started taking a bp medication today because my bp was very high. I need all the info I can get so, hopefully, I won't have to stay on this medication.

Great presentation! From my experience the measuring of blood pressure at doctors offices are not done correctly. When I took my mother to her doctor's office, she would be nervous about her weight and other things, and the first thing the nurse would do is stand her on the scale and take her blood pressure. After doing the normal procedures I asked the nurse to let my mother sit for a few moments and breathe slowly and take her blood pressure again. It was significantly lower. Definitely, the procedures should be changed at doctors offices. The very highest and best to all.
what makes you think these quacks offices want to get a proper reading , its obviously in their best interest to push as many of the toxic poison pills they're in business to get their victims hooked on
Changing to a macrobiotic/vegan/raw vegan/fruitarian diet, I have reduced my blood pressure to normal range of 120/80. No more than 1000mg of sodium daily. I’m an 59 and take no medications. My parents took high blood pressure medications for 40 years. They ate the Standard American Diet and were not overweight. My father smoked 1 cigarette a day after dinner. My mother did not smoke. I was a caregiver to them until their deaths. I decided to CHANGE my diet rather than face decades of medication.
I tried the diet you're on for 2 years and ended up with brain fog, no energy, high blood pressure and dental issues. I changed to a wild meat low carb, high fat carnivore diet, eliminated my gum disease and reduced my blood pressure from 170/95 to 115/75. I eat plenty of salt and I feel amazing. Sharp mental focus, plenty of energy, I'm never hungry so only eat 1 or 2 meals a day and I find it really easy to stay lean. We're all different.
Sportys Business I was a caregiver to parents and a grandmother for 20 years. Both my parents and my grandparents on both sides suffered from high blood pressure. All of them died from some form of heart disease (strokes, heart attacks, valve replacement). One grandfather passed from emphysema. All, except one grandfather and one great-grandfather who died in their 50s, took high blood pressure medications from about age 40. None of them were overweight. My father smoked one cigarette a day after dinner. They lived to ages 78-92, debilitated by heart disease and medications. They all had one thing in common. The Standard American Diet. Animal products at every meal. Eventually, eating animal products will catch up with you. I’m 59 and stopped 5 years ago consuming animal flesh. Then gave up dairy. You sound like you are younger than I am. You may “feel” better now. But if you continue to consume animal products, which have a cumulative effect, you will eventually have some illnesses that are the direct or indirect result of consuming animal products. You will inevitable end up taking prescriptions for these illnesses and maybe even need bypass surgery, etc. Trust me, it’s not worth it. By the time you see the full effects of consuming animal products, it will be too late for dietary changes to have much of an impact. There are ways to eat a vegan diet and still be healthy, have energy, etc. Think of the long term consequences of a carnivore diet. It won’t be good for you as time goes on.
I've had high blood pressure and very high potassium for a few years now, I have to soak my vegetables for hours before boiling them in tons of water, this leaches out the potassium, I have to avoid veggies I really like such as avocado, beetroot etc and I can never eat beans, dates, dried fruits etc because of the very high potassium. I came across this video and got hooked on this presentation and then bang, right at the end Dr Baron mentions the connection between ACE inhibitors and high potassium. This is truly remarkable, the connection has never been made by different doctors I've seen over the years. Of course this does not necessarily mean my BP drugs are the cause of my high potassium but it's certainly a high possibility, one which I will look into. Perhaps I'll ask to swap my BP drugs for another one and see if my potassium goes down. Very interesting presentation and thank you Dr Baron.
I'm CKD too and potassium is way too high, however I've repeatedly refused to take the B/P meds my Dr. prescribed. I still have too high potassium because my kidneys are damaged & not able to flush out excess potassium. It's kidney damage that causes high potassium & phosphates, not the meds for high b/p. I wish it was that simple. Yes, I've given up my favorite Avocados & lots of other foods I love.
I also have just realized that I can't eat things high in potassium. Along with the metoprolol that I take, potassium rich foods will make me very sick, very quickly cause of a. Spike in BP.

Recently, on 2 occasions, I have taken my BP monitor with me to the PCP office where we checked it's accuracy against automated machines and against manual readings. My home monitor records within + - 5% of the office readings. My 'at home' average over 6 readings a day (3 in the am and 3 in the pm) for 2 weeks is 128/68. My 'in office' BP is ALWAYS (for the past 40 years) VERY high . Most recently, in the cardio clinic at the hospital, it was 180/120. It has been higher than that. I have learned to not concern myself with 'in office' readings.
THANK YOU!! At my doctors office the nurse would Rush me in & take my blood pressure while talking about her family troubles asking me questions throughout the whole test. It was always elevated when she was the one on staff that day. 🙁 I appreciate this common sense, sound advice!! 🦋
I am astonished at the fact that some doctors are not aware of this knowledge. My mom is over seventy years old and her doctor insists that her b/p should be 120/80. He wants to add more meds to the four meds that she takes to lower her b/p. She has CHF and kidney problems, so why does he wants her b/p to be the same as it was when she was in her twenties? I can not believe what he is thinking, but I will not allow it. It seems like common sense should kick in at some point. Thank you, doctor for your help.
Primary care physicians should refer all their patients with BP issues to watch this video.....and the RN's in their offices. This is a very helpful video.
Make sure you get medicine from your doctor or the high blood pressure will mess up your kidneys. Then you can work on it with exercise and natural means.
I must say this is the very first doctor who explained the causes and effects of high/ low blood pressure and what the numbers really mean.... And medications 💊 that work and not work well.... He makes alotta sense to the general public. Just listening to this doctor lowers my blood pressure... Great job, Doc!
Dr Baron, Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, time and experience as a Dr. I have High Blood Pressure since leaving the Marine Corps in 1994. Naturally I understand why. Drop in physical fitness, food intake, wrong diet led to High Blood Pressure. Since then I’ve been diagnosed with DM along with many other disabilities due to my service in the Marine Corps. Which was over 21 years. I’ve now been doing the things that I think is helping me. Losing weight, eating right, no fast foods, the right carbohydrates, sodium, protein, fiber and reduced sugar levels. Over the past two years I’ve lost 20 pounds to my current weight of 176-177. But I’m still concerned. But thanks for letting us know what to do.
I've heard a lot of ways to take your blood pressure some clinicians tell you to stand up and take it I've had it taken both my ankles when I was laying down by a cardiologist who said this is the correct way also we didn't here hidden explain which arm is correct the left or the right arm or does it matter
Thanks Dr Baron. ..I have been diagnose with high BP. . You made the info much clearer to better understand the numbers readings n medications taken for such .
I wish UCTV was still over the air here in San Diego. The one channel I could rely on for information like this video! Great job, thorough, and really discussing the lack of agreement between different organizations and the NEED for patients to use their voice, discuss how the FEEL, and also remember EXERCISE and DIET do resolve a ton of issues. I lost 100 pounds by eating right, swim 6 days a week for 32 min, quit smoking. BP is also not an issue today which I am grateful for. Thank you!
WOW you were 100 pounds over weight? Didn't you notice that your pants were not fitting around the 40 pound mark? Okay...at least you lost the weight good for you. Now stay away from the crap food man

@@lancetheman good work my friend. About ten years ago I started buying next-size up pants and trousers because I kept expanding at the waist. I now have some unused, new pants in my closet that are too large for me. I keep them as a reminder to not eat so unhealthy ever again!
I test at home and it helps me to make course corrections in both diet and exercise to measure the impact of those changes. So measuring at home has helped me quite a bit as I am thinking about my BP and what I eat and how to exercise. Even though the measuring alone doesn't do anything, it does help me to maintain my focus on my health overall. Great presentation!
FlaxSeed Oil has worked very well for me w/o side effects. 190/110 down to 110/70 within 3 months. It was doctor recommended after angioadema side effects. I am 86 years old.
One last comment. I just read some of the other comments listed below. My recommendation is to take this seriously and followup with your own research. Yes, there are ifs ands and buts but this presentation highlights the best things to do and is very unbiased. I could not disagree with anything he said.
This has been very eye opening for me. I'm over 70 and 150/90 sounds like a much more reasonable target. I like to avoid drugs. I was able to control my T2 diabetes through diet alone and I think an exercise program should be my first line of defense for blood pressure.
@@patsydf I totally agree. If you want to be healthy, eat healthy foods.People get sick because of unhealthy lifestyle and lack of self-control or should I say...Discipline!
This video is the correct way to do a Q&A section with a large unmiked audience. The presenter repeats the question then answers it. I am surprised how many public speakers don't know this.
I am a RN pensioner! And appreciate highly the information Professors information us up to now( I’ve heard only a third of the lecture ! ) and shall continue soon the rest, very interesting, . To update what’s new in BP .
My doc advised me to take BP meds because my BP was staying around 160-170 / 80-90. I did some reading and learned High BP is among the first signs of a "MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY"! I started taking 500 mg's of Magnesium oxide in tablet form. Letting the tablet dissolve in saliva without swallowing it, crushing the crystals with teeth, massaging the crystals against the roof of the mouth etc., over a period of 15 minutes or so while watching TV lowered my blood pressure into the 115-120 / 70-85 range depending on the activity situation. Natural remedies exist for every situation! Most are aggressively hidden by the "PHARMA/MED", cartels to protect profit!! I'm 72, survived 2 strokes caused by following Doc's advice & swallowing toxic meds as well as curing at home, a hospital acquired "INCURABLE", Staph infection with garlic, turmeric and oregano. That was in 2009, 12 years ago.
I wish you would do a show on hypotension. I have hypotension due to Parkinson’s disease and now I take Midodrine 2.5mg 3x’s per day. Thank you Dr. Baron. I've been dealing with untreated high blood pressure (210/100 average) for at least 8 of the last 10 years until finally I had to ask my PCP to help me lower it. Now I see a cardiologist, though my BP is still a bit high. You have taught me a lot and I thank you again.
I was prescribed 5mg of Crestor...it was giving me muscle aches, joint pain. I stopped taking this statin drug and within a few weeks, my pain went away, also my blood pressure was more stable. I average between 120-140 over 75-90. I have not taken any BP meds since Sept 2019. I control what I eat...and I walk or exercise 4 days a week. I am over 60. I have never had a heart attack nor am I diabetic. My doctor recommended medication only because my mother and a few siblings were diagnosed with HBP. Only one sibling is a heart patient.
Recommended of how to take the BP is a crock. If it is low at home shows you are relaxed in a relaxed environment. BP is all about the body's reaction to environmental stresses or lack of. If it is all over the place but at home, you're still low, don't worry about it. You're body is doing what is supposed to do. If it is high: -Stop eating all processed foods. Restaurant food is right up there. -Check your diet and fat intake such as high omega 6 oils. -Evaluate refined sugar/HFCS intake -Stress levels at work and home -Quality of sleep -Amount of exercise both resistance and cardio -natural blood thinners of water, vitamin C -removal of table salt from the diet and use Himalayan, Sea or Celtic salts. Sodium/potassium are vital for nerve and muscle function. Sound health to everyone. If you've gone beyond 10 minutes in this video you're interested in your health and already doing some of the things I listed and of course, I only highlight a few of the many things needed.
Frank Lopez, I've watched and listened to this video till the very end. My blood pressure is sometimes elevated at nights due to lack of sleep; I'm not taking any Pharmaceutical drugs but drink garlic tea only on the nights it's high and it returns to normal within 20-25 minutes!

A few weeks ago I had a craving for Turmeric Rice and did something about it. I made a pot. I also got a bit piggy with it. A couple mornings later when I checked my blood pressure and blood glucose they were lower than normal. Last week I had blood work done and my HbA1c was lower than normal not to mention I'd also dropped a couple of pounds. Since I'd seen my doctor last, 6 months ago, I have lost 12 pounds. Doc was pleased and I'm not complaining. I've been using turmeric for a few years but only once in awhile not paying much attention to my vitals afterwards. I've also gone back to putting a dash in my coffee along with cinnamon and ginger.
What a wonderful presentation! This doctor is not only well informed, but he’s a great teacher! Starting the presentation with an outline of topics is such a good way to help the audience process the information as it’s presented. All of the lists were so clear and helpful to the audience members including me to, again, process the information. His tone of voice is soothing and it feels to me almost as if he’s talking with me alone. I learned a lot.
except for all he is just a shill for big pharma , all about the drugs to hook you for life like the rest of the sheep . no mention of how to get these medical conditions under control naturally by changing that cr***y american diet of fats and sugar , using herbs and exercising a bit
He is boring, needs to take a red pen to his presentation and weed out all the useless chatter. It took him 10 minutes to get started. It’s like he had an hour + to fill so he filled it. I can’t listen to the rest.
Dr Shultch +probably wrong spelling) in his book "Curing incurable dusease" recommended drinking howthorn tea 3:x a day also using tincture droos from the same. U started this recently and soon needed half a tablet od my usual meds.hope to do away with tablet eventually. Also raw garlic lowers BP and prevents clotting.
When I'm aware of my pulse beating under the cuff, that makes me anxious and increases my pulse rate and blood pressure. "Talking" actually distracts me from the process and I get a lower reading. ANYTHING that distracts me works .. singing, humming, reading etc.
You shouldn’t actually talk or move during the time you’re having your blood pressure taken, it actually makes the readings higher so giving false results.
I've been putting ground flax seeds in my smoothies for years, My Bp has been normal for a while now..(but I also don't eat junk foods or fast foods) if you don't eat crap you won't feel like crap..
Great info! Thank you! Doctor tried to subscribe BP medication during an initial without really knowing me as a patient. I had to rush to get to his office after a stressful day. To top it off, I was nervous about meeting a doctor for the first time. Naturally my blood pressure was elevated when the nurse took my vitals. After sitting in the exam room for 10-15 minutes, the doctor walks in, greets himself and after scanning my chart, asked if my blood pressure is always so high. I explained what kind of day I had and that I was not interested in any medication as blood pressure is not always at the same and constant levels. He did check my BP before leaving his office and it was below normal. Don’t jump on the medication bandwagon! You can control BP naturally yourself. There are also natural herbs to help with controlling BP if needed. Eating a diet rich in dark raw leafy vegetables (8-10 cups) will also help. Lots of green veggies, low carb, with light to moderate protein. Drinking hibiscus tea as well as getting enough sleep and periods of rest during the day is also helpful.
Next time doctor asks you why your blood pressure is always high, just tell him, well sir, I think my blood pressure was smoking some joints, it tries to hide it from me but I can smell it, and my blood pressure's eyes are always blood shot red, knocking off telling dumb jokes laughing at the walls n stuff.

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. Every reading I took fluctuated up or down BUT it was consistently in the high zone. I was prescribed a blood pressure pill, taken once every 24 hrs. After two years on the pill it doesn't matter how often I take my reading, it still fluctuates BUT always between the optimal and normal range. The pills work for me.
I have been on BP meds since i had a heart attack back in 1994. I have recently added a new Cardiologist who asked me to start tracking my BP at home using my own Omron monitor which takes my BP three successive times and gives me the average of the three. I have taken the log of my results to my Cardio but he never seems to be overly concerned about the numbers or pay much attention to them. I never knew i should do my test in the morning before i take my meds! I always test it in AM but i take my BP meds BEFORE I test myself. I will change that now but im aggravated about it because i do have heart disease and also type 2 diabetes and always worry about my BP as i age...now 81.After 15 years of daily blood sugar testing I'm going to stop that and just do my A1c which is currently 6.4% with 2 500mG of Metformin daily. Excellent video. Thank you.
My BP was 200/110 a year ago, BG was 5.4. Doctor wanted to prescribe me drugs for these symptoms. I said no a day went on a diet and lifestyle changed. In 3 months, all numbers came back to normal. Lost 12 lbs. Got rid of white processed food and sugar; walk half hour in the morning and getting some sunshine. It's working !
I got a BP check in a clinic at work. The cuff was so tight that I was in pain. When I exclaimed "ow! this is hurting me!" my blood pressure went up so high that the tech made me sign a note that I will go to the doctor to be checked out. I didn't. It would just be high if I went there because of the anxiety. Those cuffs hurt.
@@benjaminjr6322 It depends say for example if some has tennis elbow that will be inflammation of the elbow joint there will be a bottle neck because of the injury and the blood pressure will ride due to the heart beating faster ,the brain receives the signal that there is an injury on the elbow and that triggers the heart to pump blood as a result high blood pressure registers on the pressure gauge that's how our bodies react, that's with most injuries, so in this case cooling the area of injuries a cold compression is recommended eg ice pack ,use of fenbid jell antiinflamatory medicine is used a strong pain killer and a tubular dressing should ease the pain ,bone injuries can be fatal, bone rubbing on bone is just as fatal xrays or MRI results will show clear signs of the injuries all this will show on the blood pressure monitor. Injuries to the knees also rises the blood pressure and that will trigger the heart to pump blood faster to the area .Blood thining medication like aspirin or ibuprofen is used that will make the blood flow better as blood has red cells and white cells, when the area is injured there appears to be traffic jam of cells that's when pain increases, sometimes surgery is indicated.
Thank you, Dr. Robert Baron, for this information. My husband has hypertension, I will show him this video too. We are from Estonia, where a very effective remedy for maintaining normal pressure is sold - Kardisel. It is made from natural components. Kardisel purifies the blood, normalizes pressure, and prevents the development of heart diseases. My husband felt much better and easier to live after starting to take Kardisel.
Everyone is different and has a different BP and not necessarily 120/80 as some believe is a norm. Also, medical personnel should be taught not to react to BP measurements as a patient is about to die! This creates anxiety in patients and will produce incorrect results the next time BP is checked.
They have taught that way. It's in the system the medical books especially physiology states that a patients bp can be higher at the clinic cuz people panic and sometimes the clinic can be upstairs etc its normal if someone shows up 130/80
So, you are more knowledgeable then the scientists then? You must be a believer in alternative fantasy healing. BTW, I wish I had 120/80. Mine is more like 150/95, but I was told at my age of early 50's I don't require medication (yet), here in the Netherlands, Europe. I think in USA I would have recieved medication already perhaps. Then again many people can hardly afford a trip to the doctor over there. So I might not even have found out.
Agree with you. I was on a very strict diet anyway because of liver damage due to using acetaminophen for most of my adult life. had to go on blood pressure meds for a while because I was under a lot of stress. But pills made me very very ill. Found a very simple natural remedy that is working for me. Really like this video because he explains how to apply the blood pressure cuff correctly. I've been doing it wrong hopefully my readings won't vary so much. Also did not know you should take your blood pressure on an empty stomach. Very informative video.

Great video! As an engineer, I take issue with the present measurement of blood-pressure anyway. It is well known in hydraulics that if the flow in a circulation (pump-driven) pipe system is restricted in any way - the pressure goes up. This effect can be readily seen if one restricts a running garden-hose for example by pinching the pipe - the pressure rises and the water jet goes further. The human circulation system works in a very similar way. If the flow is restricted (by squeezing under the wrap-around cuff for example) - the pressure in the flow goes up! Come on guys - it's just like the old accepted practice of putting grease on burns! A high blood-pressure measured in this way merely demonstrates how good the pump (your heart) is - not how bad your system is!
You are right! Cause of high blood pressure in the most cases - problems with renin angiotensin system. I have perfect heart and high blood pressure all my life, which is perfectly corrected with angiotensin inhibitor medication

I was on Losartan for a long time - lost 112 pounds, due to knee replacements - discontinued Losartan. Husband dying of colon cancer, I had a panic attack that I thought was a stroke. I was hospitalized, put back on Losartan because of major increase in BP. Went to dentist who asked had my meds changed. I told her, she asked if I had cramps in my shins and ankles. Yes! She had switched to irbesartan and cramps went bye. I did the same and the cramps stopped for me too. I'm slowly getting my BP back down, lowered irbesartan by half and BP almost always between 125/75 to 105/65, except after driving 40 miles through traffic for 10 of those, where the BP comes in up to 140/75. Why isn't cramps on the list?
Excellent prestation ,so informative ! no family doctors want to tell you all these they just want to keep you on the drugs .Dr. Baron you are awesome , love your lecture . Thank you👍👍👍👍🤏
So very happy to find decent information. Thank you so very much. It is a non-definitive topic yet this presentation clarified many (not all...lol) of my questions. Thank you again.
Monitoring daily low salt lo fat diet More water, alkalanizing the body, walk morning sun best exercise, managing stress. Measure carbs like rice bread pastas sweets. Vegs juicing. 7-8 hrs rest sleep
A good talk by Dr Baron Universally less Salt(sodium) intake is a sure way to reduce high blood pressure ,coupled with medication 120/80 may not be achievable for people above 60 years of age ,and 140/90 could be the norm. More studies are required to establish the acceptable blood pressure for people above 60 years of age, where the issue could become acute in days to come
I have been taking 0ne oz/daily, in the morning, empty stomach first thing. Just like the Italians who have low bp, and have been doing this for centuries I’m told.
Very helpful video. I especially appreciate his initial efforts to improve HBP through diet and lifestyle changes. I also appreciate the guidelines for BP for over 60 year olds. I am over 60 and could not accept that my numbers should be the same as when I was 25. It was not realistic.
If you do the same activity as younger people and eat healthy like young people...your blood pressure can be like young people. Don't fool yourself. If you have high BP, there is a reason for it. It is not always medical.
video didn't help at all: dr spoke in jargon, displayed slides w/o clear explanations, it seems obvious he roots for big pharma not for anxious patients...
He speaks in a monotone fashion but still very clearly. The charts are helpful for me as they break down the differences by age/BP levels. I learmed a lot. To lower BP, there are other good videos that focus on this subject.
Dee: I fully agree with what you say. His lecture was great. It is ridiculous and unhealthy to try to keep everyone at such low numbers. I never listen to doctors when they are spouting nonsense or urging me to take a lot of medications that make me feel ill and that have questionable results. For example, I thought hormone replaement therapy was dangerous and I was proven right about that. I feel statins are dangerous, and I have been proven correct about that. Trying to reduce blood pressure to extremely low levels in an older person through many medications is also counterintuitive. I know that drug companies want to make more money by making more people dependent on drugs they don't really need. People have to engage in critical thinking and not blimdly follow what someone tells them to do. This video gives us information to help us do that.
@@luvroflifepray4890 I'm basically a layman, though I was a home health aid with CNA training too. Thanks for this presentation and information on taking blood pressure readings correctly. The latest guidelines were decided by doctors that have financial ties to pharmaceuticals and putting more people on medication. They lowered the bar for profit. My doctor lowered my blood pressure so low trying to meet those guidelines it caused me acute kidney injury.
One of the easiest and safest ways to bring down high blood pressure is by putting a plastic chair in the shower recess and sit down under warm, running water. It dilates superficial blood vessels, thus reducing stress on the lumen of major blood vessels. If possible, have someone nearby, just in case your BP drops faster than anticipated; that being said, you should be able to feel your BP dropping so you can get out before it goes too low. After you dry off, go have a sleep (if possible) ❤️
@@NoBody11010, no, don’t just take a hot bath. Being completely surrounded in the warm water may lower blood pressure quite quickly causing the person to pass out and no-one wants to pass out in the bathtub, slip under the water and drown 👍🏻
Clearly my health care practitioners here in Portugal are excellent blood pressure takers. However, I find the cuff uncomfortable to the point of painful whether It’s used in the doctor office or my own equipment at home. I’m sure this causes my blood to raise considerably. The anticipation of discomfort, despite slow breathing , closed eyes and “happy place” meditation shoots my body up! I wish there were a less uncomfortable method.
Thank you for approaching blood pressure diagnosis by presenting the scientific findings and breaking down the specifics. Many non-medical people want to be informed. The more they know, the more they can recognize potential contributors in their lives.

Was on various medications for hypertension, before getting treatment it wouldrise and stay up to 210/130. Started eating carnivore and no longer even need meds. Constantly talk to people who changed their eating habits in the same manner who experienced the same thing.
I just want to point out, Dr. Baron introduced Dr. Robert Lustig in two video set on metabolism of sugar and fructose and its relationship to metabolic disorder and resulting obesity. Along with all the other problems associated with that, including hypertension. Those two videos are on the UCLA channel and really worth watching. But my point here is that these people calling Baron a shill are mistaken, because it's impossible he doesn't know about Lustig's work (given he's had Lustig in as a guest lecturer for his classes). And therefore, it's a good bet he understands the metabolic processes that drive insulin / leptin resistance, and therefore maybe he has something meaningful to say about hypertension here. Everyone kneejerking keto should reconsider the lens through which they watch this video. Also: TAKE NOTES. (especially the part about how to properly measure)
Thank you Dr. Baron your lecture is very helpful and informative it helps a lot for those who have high ot low blood pressure . God bless and stay safe.

I am an Indian. It's my own experience. I was a patient of High Blood pressure. My pressure was around 160/90. I was worried and went to doctor. As usual he had given me a medicine. However the result was not encouraging. Then I checked my blood. It was deficient in vitamin D. I started taking vitamin D as per doctor's advice without knowing if it has any effect. Then I started taking Magnesium 250 mg twice in week. Now my pressure is reduced to 140/90. Still high. Then as per my friend's advice I had started doing ANULOM VILOM pranayam. It's very easy. At first I did for two minutes per day, then slowly increased to five minutes per day. Now my BP is 120-130/75-85. It's under control considering I am 55 +.
The very highest and best to all.
what makes you think these quacks offices want to get a proper reading , its obviously in their best interest to push as many of the toxic poison pills they're in business to get their victims hooked on
I have the same thing happen when I go -i always have md recheck after I rest and the reading is always lower

My body tells me: Moderation
Clinical settings routinely over-estimate BP because of poor reading technique. (I've been hearing about this for at least 25 years.) 10:45 How to measure blood pressure properly (which he can't do in his own office) 17:20 If the pressure reads high, take it again. 1:11:38 Dr Baron's final recommendations & considerations. 1:16:40: Good questions.

I appreciate this common sense, sound advice!!

James, I have found Dr Mindy Pelz RUclips channel to be comprehensive in regaining health. and she is fun to watch.

I test at home and it helps me to make course corrections in both diet and exercise to measure the impact of those changes.

Recommended of how to take the BP is a crock. If it is low at home shows you are relaxed in a relaxed environment. BP is all about the body's reaction to environmental stresses or lack of. If it is all over the place but at home, you're still low, don't worry about it. You're body is doing what is supposed to do.
If it is high:
-Stop eating all processed foods. Restaurant food is right up there.
-Check your diet and fat intake such as high omega 6 oils.
-Evaluate refined sugar/HFCS intake
-Stress levels at work and home
-Quality of sleep
-Amount of exercise both resistance and cardio
-natural blood thinners of water, vitamin C
-removal of table salt from the diet and use Himalayan, Sea or Celtic salts. Sodium/potassium are vital for nerve and muscle function.

Wait I think that's supposed to happen because it also checks you're heart rate
You shouldn’t actually talk or move during the time you’re having your blood pressure taken, it actually makes the readings higher so giving false results.

Great info!

I'm 86.. in all the years of having my BP taken in any doctor or other,, NONE did so observing youre method of HOW the BP is taken.

Well if arteries are clogged it would lessen the flow too making the pressure higher.
so how would you measure BP?
You are right! Cause of high blood pressure in the most cases - problems with renin angiotensin system. I have perfect heart and high blood pressure all my life, which is perfectly corrected with angiotensin inhibitor medication

A good talk by Dr Baron
Universally less Salt(sodium) intake is a sure way to reduce high blood pressure ,coupled with medication 120/80 may not be achievable for people above 60 years of age ,and 140/90 could be the norm.
More studies are required to establish the acceptable blood pressure for people above 60 years of age, where the issue could become acute in days to come
I have been taking 0ne oz/daily, in the morning, empty stomach first thing. Just like the Italians who have low bp, and have been doing this for centuries I’m told.
@RBR same here. free from statin since my Low Carb lifestyle!
I also found his talk very understandable even though I think he was talking to student or professional seminar attendees. Perhaps, I underestimate my knowledge base or intellect, but I cannot understand anyone with a reasonable high school education not being vable to comprehend this talk.
Excellent talk, factual and very informative. Thank you Dr Baron.
The Keto hawker😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for this presentation and information on taking blood pressure readings correctly. The latest guidelines were decided by doctors that have financial ties to pharmaceuticals and putting more people on medication. They lowered the bar for profit. My doctor lowered my blood pressure so low trying to meet those guidelines it caused me acute kidney injury.
Thank you po Dr Gary Sy sa info. I ❤️ GsK. God bless us all.
THANKS a LOT DR. FOR AN EXCELLENT EXPLANATION.
SUPER knowlegable holistic DOCTOR who explains well !!!
Thank s for the imfor
Mation.

@@NoBody11010, no, don’t just take a hot bath. Being completely surrounded in the warm water may lower blood pressure quite quickly causing the person to pass out and no-one wants to pass out in the bathtub, slip under the water and drown 👍🏻
Agree not to be alone in a big bath of water but it works and someone nearby would alleviate drowning risk.
Actually same for me
Thank you for approaching blood pressure diagnosis by presenting the scientific findings and breaking down the specifics. Many non-medical people want to be informed. The more they know, the more they can recognize potential contributors in their lives.

Thank you doctor Baron for giving blood pressure information
thank you Doc..love from fiji🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯
Dr. Baron is extremely helpful to me!
Thank you Dr. Baron your lecture is very helpful and informative it helps a lot for those who have high ot low blood pressure . God bless and stay safe.
This presentation is very informative, am now able to take my blood pressure accurately. Before I would sit on my bed to take my blood pressure, I get a much more accurate reading sitting as the doctor informed. I’ve stopped my prescribed drug as they were giving me dry mouth, now I monitor on a daily basis.

ANULOM VILOM is very easy to do and there are atleast a dozen utube videos avaliable on line. Anyone can do it. It's free of cost.
I am not asking you to stop your medicine. But check your vitamin D and occasionally take Magnesium. And must do ANULOM BILOM pranayam. It's free of cost.
Thank you for the valuable information. Too many times high BP is misleading and lead to unnecessary and over medication.

I had a faint last November while talking to a friend in the carpark. He rang an ambulance. they flew me to Melbourne with a diagnosis of Bradycardia. They told me they were going to put in a pacemaker. They didn't ask me. But I declined for 3 reasons. They then told me I might faint; not resucitate; and can't drive. I’ve no idea if this is any help......
I was diagnosed with Sinus Bradycardia in December (waiting for further tests because I also don’t want invasive intervention as the primary cure). When feeling faint I start coughing and continue until I reach a safe place to sit down (avoiding any fall and potentially hitting my head on a hard surface). The coughing seems to stimulate my pulse rate (simply as a temporary solution until I can get more help).
Wishing you all the best with your appointment in April.
Thank’s for the updated information on this touching subject. I was over weight a few years ago. Four years to be exact. When on a reduced food volume diet. Well at first I hated it. But portion control was the key to getting the weight off. Also l changed my eating habits, slowly I got used to the routine. My best filling, knowing I was doing something good for me....! Thank you very much Dr.i learned so much iwas not taking my blood properly neither the nurse.isurely will correct the situatuon.also i have an heart problem God bless you.
It takes above 20 minutes for the stomach to register the food you are eating and lowering appetite. I never thought of myself as an overwater, but took Ozempic-lowers appetite- and couldn’t believe I ate so much. I always stop eating before I lose my appetite
If you've ever paid attention when the clinic is taking your blood pressure, you would find the talk shocking, not boring.
My question is, when the nurse is taking my b/p, WHY does she keep pumping up the cuff? Would that cause the reading to increase??
Thank for an informative video on a health condition that I am facing as a 68 year old.
Very good teacher..i learned a lot in couple of minutes..very good information.
After having started Hatha Yoga when I was 15 yrs - I was surprised to find my heart beat is no less than 120 beats per minute, which is alarming. So I take
A 'TEN OL, which lowers the heartbeat to the 70s and 80 range if beats per minute. I can feel the difference of no sweating, and not feeling my hear pound. That's the only med I take besides vitamins and Dr prescribes the vitamins which saves me lots of $$. Do plenty of research, first, before taking any meds. Remedies have much to do with a better lifestyle andcting habits. I've had three major surgeries on my guts from age 25 - one 3 hours under the knife. The pain, sweating and shaking was unbearable and unhealthy eating and PLENTY of exercise was ALways in my everyday routine - from riding my bike 3 miles to college, lap swimming and school full time days and no less than a 37 hr work week as a cashier, at night. Get out once a day and don't over do but DO ! Find a probiotic yogurt that will help your body eliminate wastes. That is SO IMPORTANT! Take care of your body and it WILL return the favor !
get on the Keto diet, my resting heart rate is 49 and I am 70 yrs old
