- Ring TV's Cynthia Conte talks with number one contender and Japanese former world champion Tomoki "El Mexicanito" Kameda (36-2, 20 KO's) about giving undefeated WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Rey Vargas (33-0, 22 KO's) his first loss on his record. Kameda is making his Los Angeles debut at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA, July 13, 2019 and streamed live on DAZN. Kameda talks about getting his revenge after losing to Vargas in the amateurs in Mexico, what fighting in front of of his fans from Japan & Mexico, and how he got the nickname "El Mexicanito."

For his dad to bring his son to Mexico strictly to train boxing speaks volumes of what they (Japanese) think of the Mexican school of boxing.
Japanese boxing favors techniques and high skills. The "Mexican style" favors aggressive offense/in fighting, flash, and grit. It's kind of two opposites joining into one. His dad was smart in trying to make him a complete fighter who can try and blend the two together to get a smart, aggressive, and super technical kind of fighter.

I know are many here are very surprised to see a Japanese speak Spanish with a native Mexican accent. However, that is not really such a big novelty or as rare as most may think. There are Asian communities mostly Chinese, Japanese and Korean all throughout Latin America. One country in particular Brazil currently has one of the largest populations of Japanese. However, a second behind is Peru which also has a significant number of Japanese, even had Alberto Fujimori who was elected president. But Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic has a China town. There was also a once a thriving Japanese community in the mountain town of Constanza. Also in Havana, Cuba before Fidel Castro came to power, although today most are all gone, it once had a significant Chinese community. But there are also other smaller number of Asian communities all throughout many countries in Latin America, such as Panama, Nicaragua, Guyana, and Colombia just to name a few.
