Even if it was never planned from the beginning, the Joey and Pacey love story is so fulfilling because of seeds like this in the first season that really showed the chemistry between the characters/performers. Joey needed someone to be her rock, and Dawson was always too ambitious/invested in his own future. Happy we got the ending we did.
