Hey everyone! Nemo wasn’t trying to cheat or act like a hustler when she accidentally dropped the clock - it was just that, an accident 🙂 we both were confused about where the bishop was placed, so we called the arbiter over and we saw that she made an illegal move, and I got extra time for it. Thanks for watching the video
I accept that it was an accident but if I was the arbitration, I would have counted her as timed out. She hit the clock right as it clicked from 1 to 0, after making an illegal move.
Definitely an accident. The tables were a bit small for the boards. In the Alex vs Jules game, Jules accidentally knocked a rook off the board and table onto the floor. In the game between you and Alex, while you were away from table, just trying to sit down, Alex accidently bumped against the table or table leg and the whole board moved and she had to recenter the board on the table. Great recap video, by the way!
@@hylen26 Yes, so she either did buy it out right from FIDE, or intentionally joined tournaments where she knew the competition was weak to boost her rating. that's not fraud per say but definitely it's not the most honourable thing to do! Nice attempt at cheating when you made an illegal move and then proceeded to move your bishop again on Anna’s clock. Reminds me of when you cheated your fans out of a “giveaway” and you gave the prize to your boyfriend instead.
"And....I was BRAVE!!," she says, delighted at her realization. Well done, Anna. You showed GRIT and executed very well under pressure. You deserve to feel great about the win!
I am a lower rated player, and I don't think I would have beat Nemo, but I also found those moves. I suspect she found them long before me, but once in those positions, the right move was pretty obvious.
@TheRealMafoo yeah, it's not finding the line that is impressive; anyone can do that. It's being able to calculate the line so you know for sure it works. This kinda thing comes up all the time in chess commentary. People mistake seeing the move for understanding the consequences of the move. If you can't calculate it all the way, you didn't find it by skill, but by chance.
I'm not a big chess fan, but I did tune in for this game on the live stream, and was glued. Brilliant pressuring play from Anna, great commentary from Pia -- so many times when Pia said the next best move is ... and Anna did it! Truly her mother's daughter. But Anna went her own way and won the game. And then, yes, the clock drama -- all kinds of clock drama! Pia's microphone drama, her dead video feed, and then the players vanishing with absolutely nothing happening onscreen at the 30 min added time mark. But amidst all this drama the strength of Anna's playing was the main thing. Congrats Anna and congrats on (tieing) for 3rd place! I will never forget this awesome match!
Haha there was a certain point where I noticed Nemo start showing signs of stress - and I think she takes losses very personally too, and watching her body language it looked like there was increasing panic - especially after you pulled the knight back... whilst we watched that eval bar shifting against her, so she was just having a hard time accepting the end there...
The entire sequence in the endgame starting with ...Nc8 was simply amazing. You literally found the best moves all the way to the end. Great job. Also..."Passer".
From this closer angle, as when I was watching the stream, you can clearly see her move the bishop like it was knight, then move it to another position, then back to where it was.
I think the intention was G4 but to make time she pulled her hand too soon around F5 and due to the round base it rotated to G5. I'm no arbiter but to me F5 was its last legal position so that's where I would have put it. That being said, Anna got the win with the move going to the point of intention so that's even better for Anna!

Well done Anna. That was the best I have seen you play, and a deserved win. I know the indicator on the board in your mother's commentary was showing even for much of the ending. But, I thought your king position was much better, and that white was going to have to play very precisely to get a draw.

I listened to a clip of you only ONE year ago. Your voice was so so much higher pitched and now you sound nice, young but sweeter and more mature. Love your vids full of joy, informatives and entertaining
24:58 I still think clock-gate was dodgy. She definitely let go of the bishop on F5, where it wobbled over to G5 from momentum. She then moved it back to F5 but then moved it onto G4 before picking it back up. But it was the way she held up her left hand after picking the bishop up that makes me suspicious. In my mind, it implicated a sort of panicked guilt. I don't think she meant to knock the clock off the table, or for the bishop to go to G5. I think in the heat of the moment she decided that G4 was better, but instantly realised it was all on camera. Either way Papa Botez made a good call in penalising her and Anna got the win anyway.
@@FMFvideos I had literally never heard of her before this tournament. Until a few days ago, Nemo to me was a fish that got kidnapped by an Australian dentist.
I don’t know this woman who was playing white, but she obviously panicked moving at the last second and it wouldn’t surprise me if she really intended to move to g4. "Things that make you go Mmmmmm..." It's not the hitting of the clock, it's the move of the bishop once the distraction occurred. Classic pick-pocket technique.
Wow. Some thoughts. I know that having a tell in chess is not as significant as in a game like poker where your opponent does not know all the essential facts are, but it was interesting that you commented about your hair. I am not sure and I think going over some other footage may be helpful, but I noticed that you did not put your hair behind your ears I don't think once on this video. But I've seen you when you seem to be anxious constantly putting your hair behind your ear and your glasses. Now I may be wrong because maybe you tend to do that more anyway in Blitz Games but I think when you don't constantly put your hair behind your ears, it's a sign of confidence. I think chess players do pick up on signs of anxiety versus confidence and frankly from what you said and the way you appeared on the video, this is one of the most confident games I've seen you play, and I loved it. I love that you had the confidence to go for the win and risk a loss rather than go for the draw. It's funny because at the very beginning of the video you talk about just playing your game rather than thinking of who your opponent is and what their ranking was but at one point you did start to comment about that. And I don't know if that was purely for purposes of the voice-over or you were actually thinking of that but I find your performance best when you just don't think about that crap and just play your game. You are a better player than you think and you should never forget that. I think that she saw your confidence and I think it rattled her a bit even though she is so straight-faced that it's almost impossible to see anxiety or confidence in her face. Maybe it's different when you're looking directly at her as opposed to the side view that I have on the video if I were sitting across from you in a game like this I would feel your confidence. Almost impossible not to always Avanti my dear always forward and upward. Congratulations. Great win and great attitude. BTW, I have a pretty nasty heart condition and a lot of events and videos cause me to feel palpitations. Seeing you in this video physically relaxed me and my heart, literally. So it was not just a pleasure to watch you just playing your game and not worrying, but it literally made my body physically respond very positively. So not just congratulations but also thank you. Your joy, you're wonderful relationship with your parents, have literally caused me to physically feel better. Keep on believing in yourself my dear ALWAYS..

We can see Nemo deliberately repositioned her bishop after her panic move to a black square when Anna was looking the other way.. 😮.. Sometimes it's the honourable thing to just accept defeat on the battlefield...
It absolutely isn't what happened. The piece swirled around after she let it go, and she knocked the clock over because she was in a hurry to hit it in time. That's all there is to it.
@@nahqiv She moved it obviously to f4 (and it swirled to g4) and then pretended she played Bg3. I will never in my life forget what Nemo did here. Let me put it this way: she could not make a legal move in time so she should have lost the game. But got away with it all by creating a fuzz.
She was pretty blatantly sick. Just in this footage she coughed or sneezed 4 or 5 times. Everyone takes losing hard. Some aee just better at putting on a face than others.
Moving her bishop to that illegal square would be extremely stupid for her. Illegal moves always give a time penalty when the opponent realized what happend. And even if Anna did not realize what happened. The illegal move did not improve Nemos position at all, it would have made the win even easier for Anna. And about the clock. Most OTB players hit the clock quite hard when they only have seconds left. Anna also would not have lose any time because of that. Any arbiter would give Anna the time back that she lost. She might even get more time back (but I dont know the exact ruling about this situation). Also arbiter decisions always give you a lot of time to think so even if she did not get any extra time she would still had more time to think about the position. In short this "shady move" would have never improved nemos situation. It actually made here situation even worse because she lost her only chance of drawing. Anna blundering because of time trouble.
@tim8679 but she did move her light bishop to a dark square before knocking over the clock..a square that attacked a pawn and the king.. how do u accidentally do that??
@@eloerch7cheating with illegal move. Against WFM. On the game that is streamed and recorded for large audience. No sane person would intentionally cheat in this situation - probability to get caught exceeds 100%.
@@eloerch7 Quite simple. You have two seconds on the clock and you dont want to lose on time. So you panik. This typ of situation is very common in OTB chess. And it never helps the person who made the mistake. Because their opponent usually gets extra time because of it. Everyone who ever experience OTB time trouble will understand Nemo in this situation. But I understand that this type of stuff does not happen online.
Well done Anna! So many brilliant moves! Amazing! Feel a bit sorry for Nemo! Knocking that clock off and then being embarrassed about it can't have been great but I think she knew she was beaten at that point (not suggesting any of it was deliberate just it must shake you!)

When Anna beat that other woman she was great about it, very friendly going through the game together
What a beautiful game between two very cool people. Thanks!
Nemo was trying to cheat by knocking the clock off the table !
Holy character development!!!! And still an awesome showing from Nemo.
Dropping the clock seemed deliberate. Wonderful lateral thinking!
I saw the game live with Pia as commentator. Very exciting game! Pia is a really great commentator. She is up there with Yasser, David and Jovanka.
Nemo acting like a NYC hustler, moving her bishop to an illegal square while "accidentally" knocking over the clock. Seems shady to me.
Sometimes things like that are subconscious cause your brain is trying to find how to win but can’t. I don’t think it was intentional.
The chess clock going flying was the best bit of the game.
That smashing of the time clock and knocking over the piece like freaked me out too.
I haven't listened to your commentary before, but it was very good to llisten to. And yea nice game from both of you. Congrats and good luck!
Well done Anna! So many brilliant moves! Amazing! Feel a bit sorry for Nemo! Knocking that clock off and then being embarrassed about it can't have been great but I think she knew she was beaten at that point (not suggesting any of it was deliberate just it must shake you!)
Wow beautiful chess analysis. Loved to hear your thinking process. I want more videos like this. Thank you very much
Excellent win! Wow! Fantastic. I enjoyed this and your thought processes. Nicely done.
I’ve watched both these 2 play on occasion, but never together, watching this just now, i thought i really like Nemo, nice :) but for some reason i really wanted to see Anna win, and when she did, YES! she did it, I’m super happy about this win for some reason. I don’t know why, i just am.
That was awesome, wasn't expecting that ending 👍🏿👍🏿
A thrilling game by two skilled players! Thanks!
Great game Anna nice handling that endgame.
Congrats, Anna! Way to believe in yourself! Great game! 🎉
Me.emlciono mucho el vídeo. Es el primer juego de ajedrez que veo completo. Se me hizo muy emocionante.... Y me gustó como te decidiste por el triunfo....fue muy emocionante.. deberías ponerlo en el canal de español! Xoxo
