Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. my centre vent had broken and tbh made the car look tattty. i thought it was goung to be an arse to replace this but after watching your tutorial it was really easy, even bought the same part as you. :-)
Video inspired me to tackle this cheap alternative to replacing the entire assembly. The grille cover I bought on Amazon looks identical to his upon unboxing but doesn’t fit quite as well original with a noticeable gap along top edge. Also this video fast forwards through and doesn’t explain the important fine point of alignment to the internal vertical louvres which can be a challenge, especially if you dislodge them in the process as I did. There is a flat wire that connects those across the top. If you dislodge that you will need to crimp the top posts that connect them to the louvres in order to reinstall the middle and end louvres in one assembly and subsequently install the two louvres immediately to the left and right of the center louvre which connect to the flat wire through horse shoe slots rather than closed holes. You can avoid that by finessing the grille forks onto the vertical louvres from the bottom while coaxing the connector tabs along the top of the duct unit. Finally the forks are quite floppy and need to be steered onto the larger hollowed out portions of the center vertical louvres. You might have an easier time of it but allow a good 2 hours for this job.
It might be hard to tell in a video, but because that trim is right in the centre you see it all the time. Feels good looking tidy 👍 On to mechanical jobs soon...
@@Nut_Job. i have a question regarding the connectors in the panel... do you know what the white connector does, I see the wires go underneath the two venting canals... but have no clue what they do... problem is, one of the wires in the connector came out when I removed the panel.....
To be honest I can’t remember now, however I’d expect one connector should be for the central locking/hazard lights buttons and there could also be a temperature sensor in the vent for the aircon feedback.
@@Nut_Job. I found it... it regulates the outside air for central vents for the blue/red dial... the locking/hazard is on one connector right next to it.. thanks!
@Nut Job loved the video i need to change mine also .... just wondering if you have a video with a head unit upgarde .... my car doesnt have gps ... and i would love to upgrade it .... can you help
Brilliant. I never have luck with car diy. . Always run into obstacles. An easy job ends up being a nightmare! But this I'm sure even I can do! U make it look so simple. Some of My centre vent blades have broke so i cant direct the heat or AC towardd my passenger (mrs) hence the reason i wasnt in a rush to fix it (snigger 😆) I'm ordering my replacement today!
Thanks for this. Wasn't too fiddly a job... The only bit which caught me out was making sure the guide pins for the control arms were in the right place. My right grill was cracked by the previous owner. Apparently he banged his head on it trying to get something which had fallen into the floor lol!
It’s held up fine tbh. I actually think that a liquid air freshener leaked on the vent blades originally & then it looks like it affected the textured finish around the trim edge.
I think most of those air freshener s that are impregnated with the scent will degrade the cars plastics if allowed to make contact over an extended period. So best hanging off of indicators ( plus on a BMW they'll never get disturbed if on the indicator stalk).
No, I rarely bother checking OEM prices for trim type pieces - although I probably should, as you can be pleasantly surprised... but only occasionally! I was quite surprised by some OEM prices on the Range Rover parts, such as the windscreen scuttle panel etc 👍
It looks easy but would have preferred you stop once in a while through the speed motion to better outline how many screws and the clip process. As well, the button in the center clip was glossed over pretty quickly as was the disconnecting of the initial wires. Great video but could have been a better with 2 min more detail for those of us that have tangled w/ this before. Thanks for posting. Edited 6/12/20: Completed the job. However, I would recommend readers/viewers gather more information on separating the unit, putting the new one together with the directional air flow controller having to thread into the teeth. That took most of the time for me.
It was off eBay. The listing (& the seller) are no longer on there, but I’m sure other sellers will have the same item. It really feels like OEM quality, although I’m sure it was direct from 3rd party in China 👍
I just went to copy the link (eBay item) but the seller has stopped selling apparently. It was about £20 IIRC so I’m sure there’s some other sellers with the same product 👍
Thanks for the useful video. I’ve never tried anything like this before but your video really helped. All replaced in 35 mins.

No worries 👍
Thanks mate nice video .mines broken and didn’t know if I could attempt it but watchman you now il have a go 🤞🤞👍

Agree completely to the alignment of the tilt adjustment on the vent blades. Very fiddely
Another great video. All the little things make such a difference.
Great tutorial, helped us on a broken vent on a 2011 M sport (left hand drive, but the same steps applied).
Thank you, I just changed it...
I would not have tried it without a good tutorial. Total cost 22 € and less than an hour job.
Thanks for this vid. Only thing missed was the step where you align then connect the vent adjuster to the directional blades for left/right movement.
Werke Man yep. He failed on that.
Lovely Jubbly, well worth the money.
Doing this soon thanks for the video.... well done 👍🏻
Good job! Small fixes make a BIG difference 👍

A good price and an impressive improvement!
Really useful. Thank you. 👍🏻
Great job 👏 my friend, How do we can fix the back Sunshade?

Thanks for that. I'm no car expert, but i managed to do it. Took my time so i didn't snap anything off.
Good man! 👍👍
Common issue on all BMW trim. A good heat spot will penetrate the trim over time leading to bubbling. Thanks for the upload 👍🏾

Fedor?
Thank you. I going to change mine today 👍
Great job and tutorial but make sure you guys attach the piece that comes out of the vent on to the blades. Or you’ll have to do everything all over
How? It just falls down
Do you happen to have the link to the one you purchased? Looking to get the same thing replaced for a 2012 528i xDrive.
Nice video. How did this part hold up over time? Now that you have it in use for like a year and a half. Thanks!

🤣🤣
The vertical vents inside completely fell apart when I took this apart. Could not get them back together.
Yep. He totally blew off that aspect. Fail.
Yes i had the samething happens to me too but i was able to put it back together. But unfortunately the inside of these bamers is cheap
Same for me smh they break so easily
I more then sure that your side flaps are not working, you didn't even try to align them with new vent. It's tricky to do it.
Do you use RealOEM for the car part reference numbers?
Yes, it’s awesome! Also use www.newtis.info 👍
After fit no work i my bmw. Cant slide on sides but when i off pins can slide manualy with screwdriver
Very informative and helpful.
Very good price for the trim, did you get a OEM price?
Enjoying the videos.

Thanks wish you live in the bronx
Could you please tell me where I can buy the grid? Thank you very much

What kinda screw is it aT 20?

Christopher Newman totally agree. Left me stranded on the pickiest part of the reassembly. The vertical vent alignment.
I got dizzy. How does people drive from the right side of the vehicle??!
😂
where did you buy this part so cheap website? thx great video!

Do you know how to fix the back Sunshade?
I don’t have a rear/back sunshade...🤷♂️
@@Nut_Job. Lol 😂 okay that’s great but I thought all this Basic model it’s coming with a rear sunshade.
Not mine ☹️
Yep, make sure to attach the piece that controls the direction of the air, not done in this video
Screen update to the lci version next?
It’s coming....
Hey, can you share the link to buy that centre vent plesa? Thank uu
It was off eBay... I don’t think the listing will still be there. Just try searching for “BMW F10 centre vent” 👍
Can you put a link to the one you order please? Same thing has just happened to me with a leaky cheap air freshener.
I just went to copy the link (eBay item) but the seller has stopped selling apparently. It was about £20 IIRC so I’m sure there’s some other sellers with the same product 👍
@@Nut_Job. cheers, about to watch your final timing chain vid 👍

This is an eight minute video. This is NOT an eight minute repair…

Haha you have no heated seats 😝
Ugh I hate bmw!!! Everything is so complicated
