Hey guys! I hope you're all doing well. In today's video I thought I would switch things up a little bit and show you guys 8 of my LEAST favorite craft supplies! I figured, I'm always talking about products I love, but I tend to avoid mentioning some of the "fails" 😅 What is YOUR least favorite art/craft supply? I’m really happy that you made this video! Sometimes with certain craft trends it’s easy to want to buy all the supplies and think that you’re going to use it often, but once the craft is done, you end up having the left over supplies sitting there. (I know not everyone is this way!) I got into embroidery for a very short period during the summer, but I didn’t have the time to do it so I have all this thread taking up space in my desk drawer.
This is definitely me 😅 Thankfully my mom/aunt are both “crafty”, so I get a lot of my supplies from them. I hate to get rid of things too, because you never know if you’ll need them again!
If you are certain you won’t use the eraser clay, don’t mould it and just bake it like that so you get erasers and you still make use of the product! Love your videos btw! 🥰
I agree with you on the Heavy Duty sewing machine. It is so frustrating when it gets stuck or clumps up. Mine doesn’t do that very much but it does do it.
to seal soft pastels, use hair spray (this works with charcoal, too). to help prevent warping on paper, taping it down prior to painting usually works. (i may be wrong about these though.)
I have the arteza brush pens and they are meant for watercolor paper the way i use them is i draw with it ao its rought and patchy like in the video then i use the water brush pen that comes with it and spread it out hope this helps! (I personally love them!)
I agree with the watercolour one, I'm either really bad at it or I dont know how to use it, the worst part is I have to use it to paint for school (;´༎ຶٹ༎ຶ`)
Watercolor works on some mix media paper it depends on technique and paper quality. Also like a lot of art mediums, pastels will transfer to the other side of sketchbooks. You need to put something like tracing or parchment paper in between the drawings to prevent transfer. I'm not trying to be rude or anything. Here's some tips.
i love watercolor so much, but used to feel the same way. you can paint objects like flowers, clouds, moons, whatever and then cut them out and use them in collage or add to acrylic paintings! that way you aren't stuck working on watercolor paper. they also make this stuff called watercolor ground, and it's like a primer that you can paint onto any type of paper or basically any surface and it becomes watercolor paper! it's so so cool.
I love the Arteza brush pen!!!! You are supposed to use them like watercolor.... you scribble them on a plastic bag, add water on the coler, and you can use them like watercolor! They are kind of a pain without the water but you get used to it!!!! Just a little tip for you!!!!!
My least favorite supply mentioned in the video is definitely the oil pastels. I used them for some school projects a few years ago and the box has been untouched ever since, hate them with passion. Aside the mess part, I do enjoy making simple backgrounds for my art using the chalk/soft pastels and I found out that you don't need to waste a lot of money of a specific fixative because hairspray will do the same job after 2 or 3 coats (depends on the quality of the spray and how much pigment the pastels have). Do have to agree with the watercolors. As a mixed medis sketchbook user I find it annoying that the paper warps almost as much as using printer paper. Now a little note on Singer. Honestly it is no longer what it used to be. When I was fairly young (90's) I remember everyone and their mother having Singer home appliances of all kind, it was heavily advertised on tv, radio, magazines and newspapers. Upon reaching the 2010's their product quality started to go down the drain reaaaaally fast, can't even find them at stores in my country anymore and any brand stores have been long closed. If you want to keep on with sewing projects then I suggest you to make some research, compare prices and reviews or search for sewing channels here on youtube, they'll tell you the pros and cons of their own machines.
There is specific paper for pastels just like there s specific paper for watercolor. Also with pastels, I’ve learned that it’s best to rub the colors with a tissue for art pieces. There are various tutorials on RUclips that show how to make pastel artwork. That said, of course they’re not for everyone. I currently hand sew. Our sewing machines are broken too. I think both sewn and spiral bound sketchbooks have their purpose. With sewn ones, you could do a two-page artwork spread.
Try storing the brushpens on their side! The problem with keeping it upside up or down is that all the ink will flow to the lower side, drying up the other. Keeping it sideways keeps the ink evenly spread out :)
I have a couple of ideas for you my lovely, If you ever make foamiran, felt, crepe, tissue or plain paper flowers oil & chalk pastels are absolutely brilliant to add some definitions, shading and highlights to them, it gives them that little extra pizazz, I haven't used a couple of the things you mentioned, but with your water colour paper pad I cut my pages into A6 & smaller pieces then pop them into a pencil case with a waterbrush and some watercolour pencils then pop them into my bag so if I ever get stuck in traffic or you've gone for a walk and feel inspired by your surroundings you'll always have something to use that works with your hardbacked sketchbook too... My brother had the same problems with his sewing machine and it was a new expensive one, their often temperamental & finicky, I paid £5 at a carboot sale for an old singer sewing machine(its from around the early 199o's) and I have never had a problem with its performance (I hope I'm not going to regret saying that😱)... And lastly, (sorry I'm waffling on🙄... Like you and many many "craftists" we accumulate alot of crafty treasures and some we will never get round to trying or using a second time, so when I have a sort out I donate some of it to my local hospice (respite care centre)as they have weekly arts & craft projects which is mainly maintained just by volunteers & donations, things like paint & brushes, crayons, pencils, paper etc I like to give to the children's ward, its like paying it forward... Im disabled and my arts & craft is so important to me especially my mental health and has got me through some dark times so if by me giving my extra stash away helps just one person to have a brighter day then I've succeeded... Also (sorry I'm still waffling on😱) you could also send some of your cards or art projects to fire stations, ambulance depots, police stations, animal shelters the list of places is endless but it just shows people that you care... Sorry waffling over... I hope you find this helpful, as always I look forward to your next video, take care & stay safe my lovely... 💫😷✏👩🏼🎨🖌😷💫
My least fav craft supply is this bead bracelet making kit that I bought. I barely use it because the string that holds the bracelet together never ties up properly and the beads go EVERYWHERE!!! The only thing I made were 2 OK earrings but I don't really wear them.
I use the Arteza brush pens all the time, to fix the problem you are having, dip it into water and it’s fixed!! It’s supposed to be used with water I think (that’s the way I use it anyways)
9:36 I don't have that problem because I live in India🇮🇳🇮🇳 and there is a company known Luxort and those sented markers smell good👍 even on paper 📃for atleast 1 week
Oil pastels are amazing but needs some practice. But the brightness of the colours 😍😍 and it's also not ideal for really small drawings, or if you like drawings to be really neat. you can also use oil pastels in combination with terpentine and a brush, so maybe try that.
Definitely - some of the things on this list have more to do with my “style” than the actual product. It’s a lot easier to film smaller pieces! I might have to try some of your suggestions though 😊💜
I am a mixed media artist and the supply I purchased but use the least in my art is Alphabet Stickers. I thought I would add clever phrases to my art journals and sketch books. No.. because.. 1. There really are only enough letters for one or two sentences AT BEST 2. They don't really stick so you are having to add glue with a toothpick 3. They are harder to line up than you thought. Thanks! Great Video ahhh... anyone want to buy a vowel?
Weird 🤨 My Singer heavy duty works just fine, but I remember having the same problems when I first started learning. I trust your research, but just for the sake of sharing my solution, I wasn’t threading the bottom bobbin correctly 😅
Yes, I would like to see a video on your favorite art and craft supplies. My least favorites are pipe cleaners and Pom pons. I just never know what to do with them. Plus, I don’t like the way they look.
" slowly behead him", omg, I was rolling! I love my watercolors but not everything is for everyone. No pastels, oils or acrylics here except acrylic gouache.

Hi! I'm a new subscriber and I love your videos! I'm sorry you are not having a good experience with your sewing machines. I'm not an expert on Sewing machines but I can relate with the stress of the singer machine. I bought a brother and let me tell you that my problems are resolve. Not more messing with the bobbin and no more nesting of thread in my fabric. I love my brother machine and I will not going back to Singer.
I would like to ask if you could give us some tips for starting a RUclips channel. I want to start one, but I would like to know what type of Camera you use, where you got it, and what is your set up for when you record your hands like when the camera is upside down (or facing the floor)? I never searched Megan.. I found her in my recommendations and now I subbed to her, she's always in my recommendations, her new videos to ofc! Lysm Megan ❤️💗
My least favorite craft supply is probably perler beads. And I know some would disagree, but they are a pain to sort through and if you don’t sort them it’s annoying to dig through to find the color you want. I know you can buy them in smaller ones that are already sorted, but that can also be hassle to buy each color you want individually
You can take the Rendr sketchbook to a print shop and have it rebound as a spiral. I think it's only about 5 bucks. And I've seen lots of sketchbook flipthroughs where people have added other things like color pencils to their drawings. I know you're not big on Copics, but I have seen you using sharpies. Or you could send it to me, lol!
no, i completely agree with the arteza brush pens! I just wish the tip was something other than the plasticky nylon material lol anyways, great vid megan!! (ive also been loving your art blog lately, i might start my own!)
Hi Megan, I'm glad I found your channel. I had high hopes for the Faber Castell Gelatos I bought. They are just so so and I probably won't use them again. They are messy and transfer color to everything else. Not my favorite thing. Maybe I should work with them more. IDK. Great vid.
We have the same sewing machine and it works great! We make a lot of really heave bedding for our pets and it works great. Not sure why yours does that, maybe it's defective?
What kind of supplies do you actually need cuz I do like vases you know I like to personalize things like with wood it don't have to be like bullet but I like doing things like that and I like to Gallery work with my pictures and stuff like that I do all sorts of things
One of my least favorites is pastels too! I have a bunch but I feel like they’re hard to work with and just not necessary and please make a favorite art supplies video🥰🥰
Your sewing machine could need oiling . Or it could be the tension v the right thread. Or under where the bobbing is , take it all out and clean it thoroughly, mine had lint and thread jammed inside .
Sewing machines... you are best off buying one made in the 70's second hand. They made them much more durable back then with all metal parts and casing. I got mine for 30 bucks second hand and it has never failed me after 10 or more years of using it. It is so smooth and doesn't make much noise so you can watch tv or listen to music with no problems.
I wish I could find one! My grandma has a Kenmore(?) from about that time period and it works like a dream - she taught me to sew on that machine and I never had any trouble with it. (Granted, I was like 8, but still 😅) She still sews with it pretty often, they definitely don’t make things to last like they used to!
@@MeganWeller yes... Kenmore is one of the good brands from the 70's but there are other brands as well slapped on the same kind of machines. I found mine on kijiji which is like Craig's list in the states. So I would suggest keeping an eye out there.
my least favorite craft supply is Crazy art glue for making slime. Every time I try, it always FAILS!!! And YES I would love to see some of your most favorite craft supplies!!
Personally, I love watercolor. But I can see why you dont. Though, I've used color pencil, markers, and acrylic paint on water color paper before and it's worked great
I was considering getting the arteza brush pens after mine from a different brand get old but this helped me know that they are totally not worth it thanks Megan!
OH MY GOD Your sewing machine does this too? I have a different brand but it never seems to work. I really like sewing as a concept but every time I tried it, it was time consuming and frustrating and I always just assumed it was my fault. I looked up so many tutorials, thinking I might have threaded it wrong. But alas it might just be my machine... Definitely have to look it up in Amazon.
Not a craft supply but in October I decided to upgrade my printer and get a new one. I wanted something that could print higher quality faster and save me money on things like ink. Let's just say I spent so much on ink in the end. I was disappointed. I went through one colour cartridge in less than a week... I went back to my old one and I got some ink. I haven't had to change the ink yet and it's been over a month and I'm printing around the same amount at the same DPI. It's so stupid. It's been my biggest purchase regret ever.
Hey guys! I hope you're all doing well. In today's video I thought I would switch things up a little bit and show you guys 8 of my LEAST favorite craft supplies! I have a whole collection of stuff I bought and never used lol so relatable
Same, I really need to start actually getting rid of stuff 😅💜
Do a giveaway and give all the stuff you don’t need to different people
I’m pretty sure if the arteza brush pens are the ones I have have which are watercolour brush pens it helps to use a bit of water so you get more ink
Yeah, the Arteza brush pens aren't for me either. They are kind of hard to control on paper, and they don't have a very good flow.😅
It’s okay we all regret some things we buy
I agree with the watercolour one, I'm either really bad at it or I dont know how to use it, the worst part is I have to use it to paint for school (;´༎ຶٹ༎ຶ`)

“And I got one....obviously. Cause I have no self control” lol I can relate so much like I buy so many pointless things 😂
For the scented markers , I really recommend the crayola power lines.ur able to get skinny lines and thick lines, and they smell good on the page!

What kind of supplies do you actually need cuz I do like vases you know I like to personalize things like with wood it don't have to be like bullet but I like doing things like that and I like to Gallery work with my pictures and stuff like that I do all sorts of things
Yes! I would like to see your list of "most used". Please!!
One of my least favorites is pastels too! I have a bunch but I feel like they’re hard to work with and just not necessary and please make a favorite art supplies video🥰🥰
the red mrsketch hit DIFFRENT tho...
I always buy art supplies I don’t use 😂
Same, it’s a problem 😅💜
@Lilia Taggougui yes so trueee
Your sewing machine could need oiling . Or it could be the tension v the right thread. Or under where the bobbing is , take it all out and clean it thoroughly, mine had lint and thread jammed inside .
Hi Megan! I love your channel and I hope that you have an amazing day! Stay safe! 💜
Aw thank you! You too! 💜
So I would suggest keeping an eye out there.
for brush pens I like to use tombow
ive never used that brand but tombow I have found works well
I just got recommended your channel and I immediately subscribed 😀
my least favorite craft supply is Crazy art glue for making slime. Every time I try, it always FAILS!!! And YES I would love to see some of your most favorite craft supplies!!
I totally forgot about Crazy art - I remember their colored pencils being the WORST
Personally, I love watercolor. But I can see why you dont. Though, I've used color pencil, markers, and acrylic paint on water color paper before and it's worked great
Hi Megan, you are one of my fav art RUclipsrs .
I was considering getting the arteza brush pens after mine from a different brand get old but this helped me know that they are totally not worth it thanks Megan!
i 100% agree with the arteza watercolor marker things
I was literally just about to buy mixed media paper when this came out
It's a sign 🤯
oo thank you so much megan I was just about to buy chalk pastels you saved mee
The sented art supplies are for calming children down and making them relax not for your paper to smell good
OH MY GOD Your sewing machine does this too? I have a different brand but it never seems to work. I really like sewing as a concept but every time I tried it, it was time consuming and frustrating and I always just assumed it was my fault. I looked up so many tutorials, thinking I might have threaded it wrong. But alas it might just be my machine... Definitely have to look it up in Amazon.
The arteza markers it’s not just yours mine als9 don’t work at all
This is so helpful for what to buy and not to buy Your fav art supplies would also be a great help
Yay my fave RUclipsr posted! ❤️
The brush pens are more intended for calligraphy and watercolors
The last one hit home
I very much agree for the arteza brush pens cuz I got them and they weren't what I thought they'd be anyway love ur vids!
Ok i looooooooooooooooooove water Color and I use it in my mixed media book i dont know how you have problems with that. i use
sea White
Maybe the paper I have is different? Like I said, I just suck at watercolor 😅💜
@@MeganWeller hahaha lol sea White is good but idk
I've been wanting the arteza pens for ages, but never bought them. I don't do watercolor, so I really shouldn't

Thank you so much! 💜
@@MeganWeller OMG you're so welcome I can't believe you responded!! you are the reason I do art!! your how to fill your sketchbook videos are my FAV!!
I bought really expensive oil crayons and soft ones, the arzetas brushes, 3d pen, and the watermarkes I regret it so much lol
