Used to work at a local coffee shop. People would steal the tip jar a lot, so I decided to tie it to a string and attach the string to the counter. It worked. Watching people pull on it and realize it wasn’t coming with them was hilarious.

My mom got her phone stolen quite literally at the exact same spot (Leicester Square) by the exact same tactic (putting a piece of paper over, pretending to ask for food). She was very upset, but after a bit of a hassle, she looked at the bright side and treated it as her chance to get a new phone.
There's no bright side, your mum was the victim of a crime and the criminal got away with his crime while your mum has to buy a new phone for $1000+. Your mum is the sucker, and that just sucks. I think these cretins need street justice, as the police are too busy threatening people over "non-crime hate incidents" online (ie: mean tweets) to deal with the actual rampant criminality in their cities. The system isn't working.

Luckily pickpockets are the minority. I left my phone on a park bench in Amsterdam and as I realised I’d left it a lovely guy came up to ask me if I’d left this and handed me it. Would’ve been easy pickings to steal and definitely recovered some of my faith in humanity.

Coming back to comment on this video to say, thank you so much for making this. I wasn't aware of this particular pickpocket technique until this video, but because of it I was able to save my friends phone from being stolen from inside a restaurant with that exact method. Fun fact about the bongo players. In Madrid we had a group of ethnic drummers that would play close to our huge park and were lots of fun. They were energetic and people loved to dance and give them money. They must have been there for over 5 years when out of no where they were gone, I missed them and asked around. Come to find out they were the lookouts for the drug sellers that worked that corner of the park. With their music they communicated when police were around and potential customers or danger😅😅😅

Glad this video exists, because I knew their methods because of you and my friend did so too, so he could alarm me. In that instant, although I knew their scam, it took a few seconds to react because of the randomness and the common courtesy you have as a person. Coming back to comment on this video to say, thank you so much for making this. I wasn't aware of this particular pickpocket technique until this video, but because of it I was able to save my friends phone from being stolen from inside a restaurant with that exact method. My mind immediately thought back to this video when I saw someone putting that paper on our table! You've truely saved my friend a LOT of distress Zac!

I left my wallet at a park one time and didn't realize until i checked my mailbox and my wallet was there with a note saying you left this in the park. I was so baffled someone went out of their way to drive to my house and drop my wallet off. Love Canada

Fun fact about the bongo players. In Madrid we had a group of ethnic drummers that would play close to our huge park and were lots of fun. They were energetic and people loved to dance and give them money. They must have been there for over 5 years when out of no where they were gone, I missed them and asked around. Come to find out they were the lookouts for the drug sellers that worked that corner of the park. With their music they communicated when police were around and potential customers or danger😅😅😅

This happened to me on my trip in London at the Fulham Five Guys in the middle of the day. Glad this video exists, because I knew their methods because of you and my friend did so too, so he could alarm me. In that instant, although I knew their scam, it took a few seconds to react because of the randomness and the common courtesy you have as a person. Stay vigilant and always question a random stranger!
