  • @marraz1308
    @marraz1308 Год назад +4

    Of course the houses are more expensive, there are two reasons, supply and demand and the people who funded the new builds are highly likely to be of US origin, so now you can expect to pay western prices, which is not good for Ukrainian nationals who generally speaking, would not be able to afford to buy or even rent, the same thing happened in the UK 30 years ago, in that time property prices have increased by 800%, the only ones that benefit are the wealthy.

      @CymInUA Год назад +1

      @@marraz1308 This is how you calculate a percentage increase: Subtract final value minus starting value.
      Divide that amount by the absolute value of the starting value. Multiply by 100 to get percent increase.
      Now, the average UK house price in 1993 was £57.6K and in 2023, £288k. Using the proper calculating method, that is a 400% increase (admittedly not 300%, but nearer than your 800%)

    I was in Kyiv and Lviv few months ago. My impression is Lviv is a little bit more by the book compare to Kyiv. Lviv is a little bit more family friendly. It feels like the food in Kyiv is a little bit more expensive than it should be in the downtown area. Both cities are good, a lot more to discover in Ukraine. People I encounter seems to look out for each other. I been to the the bus/train stations in both cities. There were two people asking for money at the train station in Lviv which is two more than in Kyiv. No one was asking for money in Kyiv train station that I know of. The apartment price in Kyiv I felt was about the same two years ago. It is hard to find something I would like to live in for Kyiv because the buildings are so old where there is street live. The rich people food compare to normal people food price gape is too wide in Kyiv. Lviv in this regard is somewhat better. For $25 USD, I can get a really good meal at Amadeus Lviv downtown. In the US, I would have to pay double that at least. If you want to buy property in Ukraine. I think you will need an investment account. Regular card account is not going to cut it. It is easy to open a card account in say Privat bank but Privat Banks does not seem to be too serious about money. You will need a local phone number which you can get a cell number easy around the corner. Everything need a phone to get text from your bank. My US phone does not receive text from Ukraine bank. You will need to get an Ukraine ID number. In the US, we call this Social Security Number. Bring your Social Security card or equivalent from your country if you want to open a bank account. Without it, it is not allowed.

      Old apartments in Kyiv are in old neighbourhoods. But I guess you didn't go to new neighbourhoods with new buildings... there are streets also full of live, many shopping malls, shops and in general new residential areas are much more alive than any other parts of Kyiv))
      I am not sure what you mean between food for rich and for normal people, but prices in most supermarkets are the same... (unless you mean restaurants? but we have very affordable prices in restaurants for average family)
      But the rest is correct!

    Its important to compare the prices of central kyiv with central london because that is their similar place and major city. It would be wrong to compare the prices of a small town in ukraine with a major city like london or manchester.
