I thought this episode was pretty good. One detail I appreciate is that the regs are so focused on completing their own objectives that they'll literally blow up a tank with their fellow soldiers inside without hesitation. Something like that would *never* have happened during the Clone Wars

When they came home and Omega was like “yeah I paid off your debt” and she explains it’s because she’s good with strategies, I immediately thought “so she’s going to be there strategist. She’s going to help them work around problems in their plans and complete their missions successfully.” Idk, she’s still a kid, but that was my first thought

      that’s what they need.
Hunters a good battlefield leader but not long term statsgist or director so without a goal he can loose control of the situation do to being unprepared. After all the bad batch weren’t front line soldiers they were blitz raiders. They did short battles or raids not prolonged fights.
Wrecker needs direction in where to use his exsplosives and brawn correctly. Don’t and he’s most likely to do a Leroy jekens and charge the front to early.
Tech needs to be rained in and forced to share his information for plans, because right now he doesn’t share anything. while he also needs directives on what is a threat because he has a habit of underestimating a lot of things.
While echo needs order. He could lead and become similar to Rex but old habits die hard and he needs to gain experiences which requires good direction. As of right now he’s lacking in a sense of freedom and personality because this is the first time he’s ever had it, and sadly his freedom came at a time of vary little control.

Yeah, I am wondering if Omega being Nala Se's medical assistant is more of a cover or something since Episode 1 of the series she has shown abilities that go beyond that job title such as when she precisely shot Crosshair's rifle out of his hand then started blasting without much aiming and then claiming she had never fired a blaster before that moment and now she may be a master strategist or at least has been taught that skill.

I feel like we need a little more of Tech moving forward. Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, and Omega are all likable characters with depth, but Tech is a little too robotic. I was hoping we’d get some more emotional depth to him and Omega on the Venator bridge.

Same, the conversation about the war could have been so interesting and to hear what a clone would say about the war, but sadly they were interrupted after a few seconds.
I guess the episodes are too short for a one Minute dialogue about the war. Would have been great

As much as I like Omega. I feel like she is too much of a focus of the show. It’s like she took something away from the our male clone characters. I feel like at the end of the series she’ll be a more developed character then Tech, Echo, and Crosshairs and that kinda bothers me. When watching season 7 of clone wars I was excited to see more of clone force 99, and looking at this season it’s like omega got in the way of that. Still a lovable character.

    • @akorn9943

I definitely agree, and personally I would say the same thing about Echo, too. I liked what they did with him in this episode but I don’t like how that’s pretty much the most character they’ve given him so far. I feel like they could do so much with his past from the clone wars- I loved how he used his past with Tarkin to help his squad in the first episode, but then they never do anything like this again, and that was especially disappointing to me in the episode with Rex, a character he had a well developed relationship with but only ended up having like three lines with in this show. In addition, I feel like they could do so much more with the fact that he was a reg, that he doesn’t really fit in as well with the rest of the batch, or his really traumatic past. Instead, the most we really get from him is being the sort of grumpy voice of reason, like a proto-Crosshair. I just feel like he could be so much more.

I like how this show shares similarities with the overall narrative of the Mandalorian but is also different enough to not feel repetitive. Whereas Grogu was a mission for Mando at first and then later grew into the role of an adoptive son, Omega is more than just a passive character but rather an important member of the Bad Batch squad.
She isn't just an asset who the batch must protect, but brings her own skills to the table. Hunter leaving her with Cid for her own safety but later forgetting that Omega wasn't with them was a good visualisation of her importance; she might not be as experienced as the rest of the batch but they're learning to see her as a valuable squad member, and by the end of the episode it feels as though Hunter is coming to terms with that.

I think that being good at strategic thinking is just a genetic trait of Jango Fett. There was a reason that he was chosen as the template and a reason he was successful as a bounty hunter, the fact that he died doing something tactically unwise doesn't negate that. Omega's the oldest member of the Bad Batch in terms of actual days spent alive, and probably had little else to do other than help Nala Se do science and play Dejarik for about a decade, and I bet that studying how this largely unmodified clone performed doing strategic tasks was a source of data for Nala Se as well.

I'm only catching up to Bad Batch now but I was not a big fan of Echo's role here. His animosity towards the Separatists in particular is cool and makes sense but I don't think its resolved in a very satisfying way. There's the scene where the separatist tells them about the secret passage and to trust him but he says that to tech and hunter, and wrechers the one to blow up the wall, Echo could've had a nice role there especially sincehe was the one most vocal about the distrust. Its cool that he talks to the senator when they leave about "fighting another day" but that doesn't rly have anything to do with the whole distrust conflict. Not a big fan of the ep for this reason and Echo's relationship with Cid basically being resolved offscreen.

I'm a sucker for world building, which this did a lot of. I also enjoyed seeing the squad battle it out without being physically hindered by dragging Omega with them. It felt like they could move faster and be more physical without Omega around. At the same time, Omega being a strategic genius makes sense to me as a direct clone of one of the best bounty hunters ever. I agree that she might even be further enhanced by the Kaminoans.

This was a nice stand-alone episode as it dealt with the Bad Batch having to rescue a Senator on the planet Raxus only that he's a Separatist much to their disdain and animosity towards them especially Echo as the Techno Union made him into a machine back in the Bad Batch arc from Clone Wars. Even it brings in New hindsight from the view of a Separatist leader following the Rise of the Galactic Empire.
Lastly I love the little sideplot where Omega who has to stay behind by the group and plays a pro at Dejarik and is able to get the Bad Batch enough money while at the same time playing off the Debt from Cid.

Like how in this episode her sidetrack cleared the batches debt). It could just be me, but I did find it abit out of nowhere how omega has great statistical knowledge. And the episode was also abit of a reminder of how i have no clue how that starwars chess works

It's kind of fun watching a generation of people that are used to streaming, binging, and getting all of their answers immediately in an afternoon of viewing, suffer through weekly shows. This is how it was folks, for many decades. I think it also has a lot to do with how we break down, or criticize an episode.

I like Senator Singh because he straight-up is not a Star Wars character. He has a normal earth name, he looks like someone from the 1800s or something, and he uses the word “draconian”, which makes no sense because he is in outer space and there was no Draco.

Is it my imagination or were the AT-TEs taller in this episode than they were in either The Clone Wars or in the two episodes of Rebels that they were in?
In CW & Rebels, the bottom of the hull of the AT-TE is just slightly taller than the heads of a clone trooper but the AT-TEs in the Bad Batch episode Common Ground, seemed to me to be at least three times taller than the older ones
    Why?

Next week’s episode is called “Deal with the devil” how awesome would it be if the bad batch ran into Crimson Dawn? They obviously wouldn’t interact with Maul himself but Dryden Vos is certainly a possibility. It’s a perfect parallel to the current War of the Bounty Hunters comics seeing them in their prime verses their revival.

I actually really liked this episode. I felt like it was good to see CF99 operate in a way that they were probably used to before worrying about Omega. I liked the droid a lot, and I almost wanted it to be part of the team. I liked seeing the CIS balk at the Empire just as much as the rebel factions were, possibly hinting at how the Alliance was able to pull in so many systems so quickly. I think my only down side was there was no Imperial space presence once the Batch was leaving. As soon as they cleared the treetops they were safe. It reminds of how low stakes every story on Rebels felt. Like the Empire has JUST enough manpower to put 20 stormtroopers and a lieutenant planetside, but that's it.

In the case of Rebels I think it was more that with the ghost's signal scrambling and the fact that Lothal was such a small outpost they usually managed to escape before things could get too hairy. They did destroy multiple capitol class ships, but I think The Emperor didn't want to draw too much attention to Lothal... and probably after they lost the Sith Superweapon the Emperor dialed back the pressure a bit cause he wanted Ezra to open the time portal for him.

I feel as though there alot of missed opportunities in this episode. Early on Hunter is hesitant to work with the separatist. I wanted them to delve deeper into it since the Rebublic is now the Empire and the Batch are very close with ant-facist separatist ideas. I wanted them to acknowledge that the Batch are now Rebels and therefore separatist in there own way

This episode was such a missed opportunity. It really just felt like a lot of visual noise. For an episode set in the Separatist capitol, with the Batch forced to work with a Separatist, no one's thoughts were challenged like in prior episodes. I doubt Echo thinks any different about the Separatists after this episode, neither any of the Bad Batch. The mission could have been on any other planet doing practically anything else and the story beats would have been relatively the same. With exception to the opening, the writers didn't really take advantage of such a significant setting to tell anything worth of note. The B plot with Omega was honestly more engaging that the extraction on Raxus.

No pilots and gunners all we see is plain p2 troopers which is weird maybe the empire retired all of the other armor or the budget was dried up so they just used plain p2.

I really hope her newfound strategic skills means she can add something to the crew because i really realized watching this episode have omega be so young might not be a good thing since she has a hard time taking care of herself (except for the weird moments where she does a better job than the 4 badass veteran commandos out of the blue because plot?). I really like her and maybe its just because we just had an arch of rescuing her but it feels like she cant be a part of the team until she can look after herself.

Remember at the beginning of the episode she didn't lie that she had to be babbysitter to Omega while the Batch was off on the Mission. Sid saw Omega as just a bother. But at the end she changed her tune with the line " Hey that kid just made enough money to pay of your debt to me, so lay off my friend." Friend. it may be a mercenary type friendship, but Sid is now on Omegas side. :-)
