Damn, the North has it really rough, in terms of houses going extinct (EX)/functionally exctinct (FE)/probably going excinct (PE) in the books. House Bolton (PB) House Cerwyn (FE) House Cassel (FE) House Flint of Widow's Watch (EX) House Hornwood (FE) House Locke (FE) since we haven't gotten any confirmed lineage for the Lockes yet.
I think you misrepresent the reason for the Karstarks leaving the war, which lets them off the hook significantly. They do have a leader; with Harrion in captivity, they take orders directly from Arnolf back in Karhold. They also still have local battle commanders, presumably, who can be placed under the command of another lord if needed. They don't just get to go "we don't have a boss any more, guess we'll just head home"; they'd have to send to Karhold for orders on whether to follow Robb or desert him, and presumably they got their orders because they did (b). Deserting your king in wartime is a serious crime, however mad you might be at him. It's interesting to speculate what would happen to a lord's bannermen if he and his house WERE completely extinguished in battle, though. I'd guess in normal circumstances they'd continue to follow his king until his title was bestowed on someone else, but in this case it's slightly complicated (at least psychologically) by the king being the one to execute him. Probably if a king was knowingly executing the last surviving member of a noble house he would give their lands to a loyal ally in the same breath, both to avoid inheritance disputes and to put down any rebellions the execution might spark among the executee's own loyalists.
Does this mean you'll cover other newer houses as well? Cadet branches like House Tyrell of Brightwater Keep or completely new houses like House Slynt (however short it'll be)?
I don't recall it actually being stated outright that they formed a new house? I know they get married. Could it not have been a matrilineal one, with the Magnar taking her name?
As someone who knows nothing of Thenns besides whats in this video and the one mention they get in the show. How are they okay with being wed under the lord of light instead of the old gods?
The First Men split between the Wildlings beyond the Wall and the people subjected to the Starks between the Twins and the Wall. I will never understand why the subjects of the Staks, UNCONQUERED by the Andals, adopted the Andalic language.
This has actually happening quite some times in history where a language ends up having such an influence it ends up displacing or dominating the native language even without conquest for example the Assyrians originally spoke Akkadian but with time changed to Aramaic the Scots also originally spoke gaelic/goidelic but with time got displaced by Scots (depending on who you ask is just scottish english or a different language all together)
I just like to think GRRM got lazy somehow. It's a huge ass continent, I'm surprised each region didn't developed their own language. And even if it is really all settled by a single group, considering the long timeframes, it would have at least split apart, like how the Romance languages developed from Latin.
Alys and Sigorn are the foils of Bronn and Lollys. Both Bronn & Sigorn married noble ladies to overhaul noble houses but Alys and Bronn are the clever halves of their couple.
Jon: "You're not scared?" Alys: "Let him be scared of me." ................. Melisandre: "Alys, do you swear to share your fire with Sigorn, and warm him when the night is dark and full of terrors?" Alys: "til his blood is boiling." Somehow, I think these two will be alright 😉😊😛
On the Old tongue vs common. Is it ever directly stated that common is andalosi? Maybe its me trying to cope my way out of the huge glaring issue that is language in ASOIAF in westeros, but the only way realistically that I can see common being spoken both by wildings beyond the wall and by the dornish in sunspear is if its a first man language.
Actually, I think the Girl in Grey is actually Sansa, fleeing from a Marriage ... Tyrion is not Dead yet, but I think she realizes that Littlefinger doesn't plan to let Harry the Heir live for long, probably only long enough that Sansa gets pregnant to have another Heir to the Vale he than can control, better than Robin because it is literally a Baby. So Sansa decides to leave the Vale and go North to Jon. She most likely will travel to the three sisters and from there to White Harbour or she meets Davos who seeks a Crew to sail to Skaggos to find Rikkon. So there is an amount of possibilities for how Sansa can end up in the North at the Wall after Jon's "resurrection". The Quotes are for the fact that we have a lot of similarities between Jon's assassination and the Red Wedding, but GRRM says he hates repetition. And I ... then why did he copy Robb's and Catelyn's Death and Aryas knock out by the Hound in nearly every Wound Jon gets? Not in the Show, in the Books. First Jon is stabbed by some Members of the Nights watch and has multiple Wounds like Robb was shot by multiple bolts from the Crossbows, than he takes a cut into the Throat like Catelyn and then he becomes unconscious after someone stabs him in the Back which is the last injury of a Stark we know about, Arya being knocked unconscious by the Hound, I don't remember if the Hound was behind Arya but he was out of sight, so it counts, someone who is out of sight is in your back. So if GRRM really hates repetition it is strange that Jon who is betrayed by his own Men, like Robb, is killed with a Copy of all three Starks who were at the Red Wedding. There is a Theory on the Internet that Jon is not Dead yet, just on the Brink of Death, like Khal Drogo at the end of AGOT or Bran after his Fall. Mirri Maaz Duur used Blood Magic which she learned in Asshai, the Place Melissandre comes from, Mirri Maaz Duur killed a Horse to save Drogo and told Daenerys that no one was allowed to enter the Tent after she started singing (we all know Daenerys was brought into the Tent by Ser Jorah). So Melissandre uses the same Ritual as Mirri Maaz Duur and this time the Sorceress has a Room with a Door that can be locked, furthermore outside her Room there is Chaos, so if Jon is in Ghost and safes his Body from the Chaos, probably no one would notice that something like a supposedly dead body is missing. Furthermore this time we could see the ritual and hear the Song that Mirri Maaz Duur sang through someone who understands that Language, so we would know what Mirri Maaz Duur did during her time alone in the Tent with Drogo. In terms which Animal Melissandre will kill, it won't be a Ghost, her flames showed her that Jon became a Wolf and then a Man again, she probably knows that Jon is in Ghost, so my bet is on Mormonts Raven. It also would fit with the Theme around Melissandre a Priest who uses Glamour and illusions to persuade people to follow her God. Jon doesn't need to be actually dead to be useful to Melissandres Cause to accomplish just that. All she needs is a supposedly dead Body she brought back from the Dead to show the Power of her Lord of Light. All she needs are enough People who saw Jon fall to the Ground shortly before the Chaos started.
I also think it is slightly unlikely that Alys is the grey girl. Someone else posted the same thing, that we never actually see Alys wearing grey, but rather Jon and Mel assume that's who the vision was about. And since Karstark colors are black and white, and not grey (though black + white makes grey), I am still not convinced. Sansa being the one is a good guess, as she is hiding her Stark heritage right now (the Stark colors being grey and white) and I can imagine that by the time she makes it to the Wall, she will be revealed as a Stark again, possibly in a grey marriage gown, thus being a grey girl.
@@j-rey- I think it will never come to a Marriage between these two or even a reveal. I think she will run away before that. We should not forget, that Sansa Stark is a wanted Woman for Kingsslaying and Cersei really wants to kill Sansa because she thinks Sansa did help to murder Joffrey. She did although I think that was only a distraction so that Tyrion would be blamed for the Murder. I mean Littlefinger did that Assassination and he knew that Joffreys cruelty would ensure that everybody would look to the Tyrells at first because they wanted to protect Margery. With the Murder weapon being in Sansa's Hairnet that would switch the suspicion to Tyrion and the Stark Hostage. Littlefinger couldn't have known that Cersei would immediately accuse Tyrion of the Murder.
Wdym "You dont think he'll end up on the iron throne". I find your lack of faith disturbing Ser. You have preached defeat ever since the blackwater. If a sacrifice is needed to please the lord,I think we know who should be offered.
Actually house Frey in the serie didn't go extinct because Arya just killed the men and was merciful to the women. There must have been a legitimate Walder Frey's daughter or grandaughter who took his place as the new head of house Frey.
I think the chaos of the Long Night would throw a lot of things out of whack. Harrion may die, or just be too out of position near Maidenpool to be a significant figure in the battle for the dawn. I think the Thenns, along with Alys, could take Karhold, and at that point, it doesn't matter that Harrion is the rightful lord, as he has no army and no castle.
@@j-rey- but the people as well as the lords of the north would rally behind a living lord over a wildling, to not back Harion on his claim would basically be illegal or tyrannical by the person in charge. This is a fantasy story, sure, but we can’t just throw the laws of Westeros out the window because we like an alternate scenario
Reading and hearing more and more about the lore and world building of ASOIAF has made me hate the tv series more and more such waisted potential the writers where bafoons of the highest degree this series deserves a reboot in the form of an animated series
Always a shame to see the Old Gods lose sway among the people of Westeros. Sure-they may be bloodthirsty and pretty evil but their trees are so cool; how can you fault them?
i don"t know what alys karstark was thinking when she married a wildling . because the karstarks are a noble family and relatives of the starks . and noble families do not marry from races lower than them their marriage will not end well. especially for alys karstark ..
Wouldn't the newest houses in GoT be those of Ser Davos Seaworthy or Braun of the Blackwater? Seems like the Thenns are actually an old house, though they've were temporarily stuck north of the wall.
What are you blabbering about? The Thenns are a tribe, never a noble house. And what the hell is "Braun of the Blackwater"? Bronn is just a knight, not a noble house. He became a Stockworth by marriage. the newest houses are Thenn and the ACTUAL newest house is Redbeard, both from the free folk? Can you even read properly?
I’ve wondered that too. It makes sense for them to learn the common tongue, and for the old tongue to become less used. But for a region that prides itself on remembering they seem to have completely forgotten the old tongue
Because they still traded and married with andals whereas the thenns are noy only north of the wall, they also live in some very narrow valleys and live near the white walker homeland which is going to lead to isolation.

The main branch of House Arryn will go extinct too, it's very unlikely that Robert Arryn will survive the Winter
House Frey too will be wiped out,Stoneheart is hanging every Frey she can put her hands on,and another wedding is going to take place in Riverrun... They are cursed for violating the laws of Gods and men
@@niccologregorutti What are you talking about? Quentyn is alive 😉😉😉😉😉 /s /s /s /s
@@j-rey- yeah right,my bad 🫢
@niccologregorutti9309 I think edric storm probably will be legitimised. I don't see any other reason to send him to lys. He might even be legitimised by aegon or dany and made the new lord of the stormlands.
House greyjoy won't go extinct. There's also two cousins whom have like one page mentioning them in affc and I doubt they'll be mentioned again.
House martell also has the sand snakes and I don't doubt that aegon would legitimise them if they got in serious trouble. There's also manfrey martel, again a cousin.
Robin arryn is a red herring. Everyone says he will die so he likely won't
Great channel man👍🏼 I've been here since you had 1k followers. I don't always agree with your statements but that's what makes it fun to watch. Keep it up💪🏽
I'd love to see one of these on House Grandison!
I cant wait to see House Thenn likely participate in the Book version of the Battle of The Bastards
There's no such thing as the "battle of the bastards". Not in name. And the siege's main leader will be Stannis, not Jon Snow.
I love your narrative! Keep up with the good job.
that Maidenpool build tho
Damn, the North has it really rough, in terms of houses going extinct (EX)/functionally exctinct (FE)/probably going excinct (PE) in the books.
House Bolton (PB)
House Cerwyn (FE)
House Cassel (FE)
House Flint of Widow's Watch (EX)
House Hornwood (FE)
House Locke (FE) since we haven't gotten any confirmed lineage for the Lockes yet.
Great video!
Thanks Quinn
I love their sigil.
Does this mean you'll cover other newer houses as well? Cadet branches like House Tyrell of Brightwater Keep or completely new houses like House Slynt (however short it'll be)?
Good job, great video brother, thanks.
Stannis never change up!
Your videos are awesome
I don't recall it actually being stated outright that they formed a new house? I know they get married. Could it not have been a matrilineal one, with the Magnar taking her name?
As someone who knows nothing of Thenns besides whats in this video and the one mention they get in the show. How are they okay with being wed under the lord of light instead of the old gods?
One of the conditions of swearing to Stannis was that they had to convert
And a lot of times they adopt the language for trade or comers
I just like to think GRRM got lazy somehow. It's a huge ass continent, I'm surprised each region didn't developed their own language. And even if it is really all settled by a single group, considering the long timeframes, it would have at least split apart, like how the Romance languages developed from Latin.
Alys and Sigorn are the foils of Bronn and Lollys. Both Bronn & Sigorn married noble ladies to overhaul noble houses but Alys and Bronn are the clever halves of their couple.
House Thenn, Blood of the Free and (Kar)Stark
I think the thenns are going to get the dreadfort after the Boltons die
Lannisters are one of the largest houses in ASOIAF, but I assume they have the same numbers the did in the book.
Jon: "You're not scared?"
Alys: "Let him be scared of me."
.................
Melisandre: "Alys, do you swear to share your fire with Sigorn, and warm him when the night is dark and full of terrors?"
Alys: "til his blood is boiling."
Somehow, I think these two will be alright 😉😊😛
On the Old tongue vs common. Is it ever directly stated that common is andalosi? Maybe its me trying to cope my way out of the huge glaring issue that is language in ASOIAF in westeros, but the only way realistically that I can see common being spoken both by wildings beyond the wall and by the dornish in sunspear is if its a first man language.
yes
I prefer the Sopranos pronunciation of House Hoare.
House Hoowah
😮😮😮😮😮😢 bring back the old houses
I thought it was just the Thenn joinning house Karstark (matriarcal wedding)
What’s all this, Thenn?
Algormancy!
Do you think Samwell and Gilly will get married? Will they start a new house or stay with the Tarly name?
Does the thenns look the same in the TV show
damn bro ive avoided the winds sample chapters for years hoping to read it all fresh, so thanks for no warning.... *sad noises*

Devan Lannister supremacy
Devan lannister best minor lannister
Thenns werent the only one that could communicate with giants leather could also and probably most wildings
I though that the magnar was gonna take the name Karstark tbh.
You said all the lannisters were wiped out by the end of the show...isn't Tyrion hand of the king? Did he cast of his family name?
Wdym "You dont think he'll end up on the iron throne".
I find your lack of faith disturbing Ser.
You have preached defeat ever since the blackwater.
If a sacrifice is needed to please the lord,I think we know who should be offered.
The Winds of Winter is never coming out

This new house might take home in dreadfort after Boltons get killed by starks in WoW
House Darry gone also
The Blaackwoods!!!!
Durrandon, Gardner and....what?
i hope stanis gets to seat on his iron throne

Tyrion is alive at the end of the show, so the Lannisters still have at least one person who can carry on the blood line.
True, though I wasn’t sure if he wanted to/was going to continue the family line.
Actually house Frey in the serie didn't go extinct because Arya just killed the men and was merciful to the women. There must have been a legitimate Walder Frey's daughter or grandaughter who took his place as the new head of house Frey.
Also, it's kinda absurd to think NONE of those male Freys were parents anyway.
If Harian is set free then house Then probably won’t last long honestly
Tyrion is alive at the end of the show...
House Redbeard
Who would marry off a relative to a cannibal. Wow
I'd rather see Thormund become Lord of the Dreadfort.
Thenn again...
: )
i don"t know what alys karstark was thinking when she married a wildling . because the karstarks are a noble family and relatives of the starks . and noble families do not marry from races lower than them their marriage will not end well. especially for alys karstark ..
It’s dumb if they take Karhold from the Kastarks. The show already ended most of the northern houses
Ok.
First
Wouldn't the newest houses in GoT be those of Ser Davos Seaworthy or Braun of the Blackwater? Seems like the Thenns are actually an old house, though they've were temporarily stuck north of the wall.
What are you blabbering about? The Thenns are a tribe, never a noble house. And what the hell is "Braun of the Blackwater"? Bronn is just a knight, not a noble house. He became a Stockworth by marriage. the newest houses are Thenn and the ACTUAL newest house is Redbeard, both from the free folk? Can you even read properly?
i thought the glovers were alive
They are.
I still don’t know why people aren’t in the north don’t speak the old tongue
It's especially weird since they were never conquered by the Andals
I’ve wondered that too. It makes sense for them to learn the common tongue, and for the old tongue to become less used.
But for a region that prides itself on remembering they seem to have completely forgotten the old tongue
Because they still traded and married with andals whereas the thenns are noy only north of the wall, they also live in some very narrow valleys and live near the white walker homeland which is going to lead to isolation.
@@mappingshaman5280 they just stopped using the language
@fazediamond5671 yes and that's because they had contact with the andals and the common tongue was probably easier to use than the old tongue

Shit I wish I’d thought of that
