Hi this is my favorite show, and I just wanted to let u know that rumplestiltskin and his mother are both immortal, but rumplestiltskin was older when he became immortal than his mother.

It's always odd to see people watch this episode without seeing the rest of the series. They seem to always assume its universe is shared with the Disney animation world and have questions that other episodes of OUAT have already answered.
I know when I watched the first few seasons of the show it was nothing like the Disney versions of the stories but from what I've seen I feel like they leaned more into some of the disney stories later in the series, like I've seen clips from when they introduce Anna and Elsa and they have exact replicas of the costumes from the movies
@@AmieMariah_ But my point was that the characters are their own. Plot on these stories are always leaning a specific direction because the original stories they come from are familiar even when different.
And when it comes to _Frozen_ the crew of the show wasn't allowed to have _Frozen's_ characters change clothes because the movie was still at the height of popularity (ten months after the movie's release when OUAT aired that story - _Frozen_ was still in theaters and not dying down) and Disney held a grip on what was familiar to the movie's narrative. It was the only way OUAT would be allowed to use the characters.

I do love this series and it's nothing like the Disney princess movies in spite of all the trappings that might lead you to think it was.

Fun fact: When Captain Hook done that stunt with the chair in the beginning of his song, he actually broke a bone in his foot. He then proceeded to record the song with a broken foot. You can see the pain in his face near the end when he kicks all that stuff off the table

Zelena's song is perfectly on character, she's kinda crazy and very funny so it' perfect to have such a lovely song with lyrics about terrible things
The fact that Colin's foot was broken during his song and he still did the whole performance is still blowing my mind

the wish is affecting the people who love emma (her parents, husband, step-grandmother and step-great-aunt - or just think of zelena and regina as her best friends) anyway that's why zelena sang. what i don't get is why when blue told snow and charming this, they didn't raise some questions by the love of the evil queen and a random af pirate who love their daughter

@@kittyevans3868 I’m thinking that they used Regina (Evil Queen) as part of the wish because of the transition between evil & good, Regina also saved young Snow. Snow later told the story to a disguised Evil Queen that she saw goodness in the Evil Queen she was just waiting for her to come back, which she did in I think season 3.
@kitty Evans I know late but oh well. My interpretation is that in some way the fairy magic “knows the future” that both Regina & Zelena become not only best friends with Emma but also someone Emma loves. It took awhile for both Regina & Zelena to turn good. That only really started to happen once their mother, Cora gave back their memories as girls who loved & needed each other. Zelena saved Regina’s life as a girl. Accents well no one was raised with each other. I mean Zelena & Regina were raised in different magical places. Rumple & Fiona (Black Fairy) because of the choices the BF made was not around when Rumple was a boy. Now the kids who played young Zelena is from the UK so that makes sense. Young Regina is American so that makes sense. The young boy who played young Rumple isn’t even from Scotland like Robert Carlyle but he learned the accent.

What is funny is that the singing curse is technically on cast in the Enchanted Forest so Zelina who was in Oz then is not forced to sing. She just chose to do it.
For the wicked witches song I think they make it like that because Zelena thinks shes delightful and it shows that she may see nice and kind but if you talked and interact with her more or listen to her lyrics you see that she is actual not the best person. Also Regina and Zelena have different accents because Zelena grew up in Oz and Regina in the Enchanted Forest. Love the reaction btw.

I love how just to sing is magic. Like music plays in the background and stuff and people start dancing. It’s awesome.
Since you asked the question earlier. Zelena and Regina are half sisters. Cora had Zelena first with someone else then abandoned her. Zelena got picked up by a twister and landed in Oz.
Lol you aren't the only reactor who thought this way about the Wicked Witch's song but its only because yall don't watch the show so yall don't know her personality. She's wicked but its just a facade because she's hurt. She's really all heart and just wants love, moreso desperate for love and with that context her song lyrics makes sense. She wants to be soft and feminine but feels like her opportunities were stolen from her and given to her sister the Evil Queen. As a matter of fact in the next season she gets a new identity (its a OUAT thing) and she's still her with her personality deep down but also a new person. Her name is Kelly and I bet Kelly loves pop music so I always thought it was appropriate that her song would be like a ballad.
Loved your reaction!! Colin O'Donoghue (Hook/Killian) was in a band in his hometown, that's how sounds so comfortable for him, I guess. And answering your first question: they were planning the wedding, even looking at locations, so it wasn't supposed to be THAT night. But then the Black Fairy decided to have this big fight and blahblahblah so they decided to do it sooner so they could show some kind of hope for the people, just like they did with Snow/Charming wedding during Evil Queen's threats.
The wicked witchs song was ironic, its the best song on its own.
Zelena's song sounding sweet was I think intentional to show that she finally feels happy because (she thought) she could get past regina

Have to say, as a big fat 40-year-old straight bloke, I’ve always been firmly convinced that it’s OK to randomly burst into song. I work security and my colleagues have got used to me launching into an occasional ditty (it particularly always amuses me to knock out the chorus of Der Hölle Rache at full falsetto just because it’s funny from someone who looks like me) or tap dancing a bit behind my X-ray machine when my feet get bored.
Sometimes some of them even join in. :-D
I liked the irony of the green person’s song. Terrorising munchkins while being super joyful. To me it was funny anyways
13:44 the irony of her voice/tone of the music next to lyrics which are darker i think is kind of the point because she believes that what she's doing is right
This show was so fantastic right up until the last episode of the last season. Definitely worth watching every episode sometime if you haven't.
Music being the most powerful magic actually makes sense and can be seen in a lot of fantasy from Tolkien to Dungeons and Dragons. It was very well done in this episode.
"I want Charming's outfits. He is dripping!" No, that's just me.
Killian (Hook) may not have said "i love you" back at that moment probably because his mind was so all over the place, terrified of loosing Emma. But they are true love and are crazy about each other. They had been through so much seperatly and together. I think he was just freaking out. Spoilers, they are happy together and Emma gave birth to their daughter, Hope. They're a family.
To answer 2 of your questions. Why is Rumple's mom younger then him? They're both immortal but Rumple was made immortal later in his life the her. Why do Regina and Zelena have different accents despite being sisters. Accents aren't biological.
Ahh, that makes a bit more sense... I also realised the accent comment was pretty dumb after the fact haha I actually know so many people how have different accents to their family members 😅
This show is just so fun to watch. But oh my god it’s complicated. It makes sense watching from the beginning. Hope the Xena Musical episode is done. It’s so underrated and the themes are EXTREME. I mean the title is literally called “The Bitter Suite”
But I do love Once Upon A Time! It was my modern day Charmed energy filled show. Magic, family, drama, some meh plot lines, but an overall great story with FANTASTIC series finales.
Xena is on my list so don't worry, I'll definitely be doing a reaction go it in the future 😊
Loved your reaction! Apparently they held off making a musical episode for ages because they wanted the singing to factor into the main story somehow rather than just have a normal episode but theyre singing situation.
The only other musical episode i know of was on Fringe, and im pretty sure it was part of a tv network event where each of the airing shows had musical episodes that week 😂

Let's make it clear. This show has the most complicated family tree in Tv shows history. In season 5 she meets Rumpel's wife makes her also ex-lover of Hoook (her current boyfriend) and mother of Bellfire a.k.a. Neil (her ex-boyfriend and father of her child).

I'm sorry Luke dallas 🤣 but also the song Emma sings. Was also her theme tune that plays in the background during the whole series.
Might be a dumb question, but have you seen Galavant?
If not, or if anyone is interested, it's a criminally underrated medieval fantasy comedy musical series. I'm not a huge musical fan(I don't actively seek them out but usually like them when I see them) but it almost immediately became one of my favorite shows. If you want a hint of what it's like, look up the "Cast of Galavant lyric video". It doesn't really have any spoilers. It's basically just the intro of the show.
I've seen a few recommendations for this show, its definitely on my list to check out 😊
Oh yeah, Galavant is great fun. Another show with a good musical episode is Lexx, the weird Canadian-German SF series.
When people bring up Galvant I have to point out that it a musical series. Also if you want just an episode Psych the musical is amazing.

The musical episode of Once Upon a Time is irrevocably my favorite out of every show that isn't a musical series. The cast really blew expectations out of the water with their songs...all while preparing to witness Emma and Killian walk down the aisle.
FUN FACT: Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White) actually HATES musicals
Honestly not my favorite musical episode. I only really actually LIKE hooks song but they do fit the characters. Zelena (Wicked witch) is very much the smile at you while she stabs you type villain.
So, I love this musical episode for more than one reason (not just because I love musicals) but I do have some gripe with plot in this episode. First, Zelena (wicked Witch) never appeared like she said she would in her song "when regina stood victorious" using her spell. Second, that emma's heart was so easy to pull out of her chest for a magic user when in season 2 Cora (regina's mother) tried to do so when they were trapped and she was blasted back before she could even stick her hand in Emma's chest...

In fairness regarding the dress sizes and no time for alterations, a lot of these characters do have magic

Also you mention the first dance with Emma and hook being a little slow the actor who played hook actually filmed this episode with a broken foot from doing his chair jump during his flashback song
When I said the choreography was lacking I didn't actually mean the first dance choreography, I would have had no clue the actor had a broken foot! (I was more so meaning the show as a whole felt like it was lacking big choreographed dance numbers)

But yeah, I’ll tell you a fun one to diagnose is Xena❤ the warrior princess had two musical episodes in her run, I think one was at the end of season three and the other one was at the beginning of season five? I don’t remember, but they are fantastic.
And it’s a 90s TV show so it’s not recent like everything else you Frank so far

Ok so to try and answer some of the music magic questions:
Blue Fairy isn't saying that singing itself is the strongest magic. It's about how songs in musicals are often how people express their feelings and secret desires. This musical wish allows people who will be Emma's allies in the future express their love in a way that can be more easily experienced and collected. That's why we only see people that are on Emma's side (Or will be when needed, the magic knows Regina, Zelena and Hook WILL come good later) singing, and not Rumple, who is very much out for himself. Blue gathers up all that love and support and passion and stores it away inside Emma for when she needs it. The love protects her heart (that white glow) and gives her access to a powerful, if temporary, well of magic powered by her friend's love for her, converted into a nicely accessible form she can tap into using a tune important to her. People sang what was in their hearts, to give power to the song in hers.
The song at the end is because Emma is still giving off that kind of music/energy, having activated it with her song earlier the last dregs of that power are still emanating from her, so she and (most) of the people who sang during the wish, along with some of her new allies, get one last group number expressing love and hope to kind of bring the wish full circle because it started as a way for them to help her fight, and now they're promising to be united and fight together.
I remember the first time I watched this episode I was so happy bc I watched the show from the start and wanted a musical episode FOR SO LONG and I fell in love w/ all the songs but Hook and Zelena’s songs just do something to me ugh
Also yes Zelena’s song sounded sweet but that was the idea to show that she was sweet but it’s not like sweet sweet it’s PSYCHOTIC - I do see what you’re saying tho but I loved it sm
This Snow (aka Mary Margaret -- her real name, Snow White being a nickname) is a princess who inadvertantly turned her soon to be step mom (Regina) against her by betraying a trust; was framed, spent time as a convict (which is when she first met Prince David, aka Charming), ate a poisoned apple, was kissed back to life. This Wish Upon a Star singing spell is the only time she's sung in her old kingdom; & the only time in this alternate lifetime.
This show is NOT part of that animated universe!!!
(Hook in Peter Pan killed a giant crocodile. Killian Hook in this universe killed Rumpel''s wife, Rumpel took his hand off; & Hook wants to kill the "crocodile," Rumpelstiltskin.)

Alot of people feel zelenas song had a weird tone. I always took it as a victorious tone given the context of the song beleive that she finally has her chance to win

Regarding the Wicked Witch; she doesnt see herself as a villian. She sees herself as somone who has been wronged and Regina has the life she was supposed to have. It's also very in charcater for the show's interpretation for the character; she's a little quirky and silly and just completely delusional. Also, i feel like it was a really hard task for the songwriters because of how iconic and beloved Wicked is. They had to make sure Zelena's song couldn't be compared to the musical. Perhaps they tried that and it sounded too much like Defying Gravity

The different accents within families can be explained by the horrifyingly low percentage of people being successfully raised to adulthood by their bio-parents on this show... (also the chronic epidemic of choosing to solve problems with magic/power vs good parenting...)
Found your channel through the Once More With Feeling reaction, and considering you appreciated that episode the same way a great deal of genuine Buffy fans do, I was curious about your take on this one.
As a musical episode, this one… really bothers me. Everyone basically just gets one song, and they aggressively sing that song at each other.
The ‘battle’ between Regina’s number and Snow and Charming’s number was just…. Horrible. They’re great performers, and aside from the fact they wrote Regina’s evil songs in an uncomfortably low tone ill-suited to her voice, there really shouldn’t have been any problems.
Yet they turned what could’ve been a sick battling duet (tri-et?) into three people yelling lyrics at each other with no flow or anything. I’ve seen rap battles written worse that still understand a ‘song battle’ more than this episode.

I don't think any of this is their real voices. Sure they might have recorded it but I'd be willing to bet all my money that a computer and a real clever algorithm made most of the work.
Lana Parrilla does things to me and 90% of why I watched this show was to watch her spectacular acting but I still don't think that was her actual singing. Sucked when they completely jumped the shark in the last season.
Lana (Evil Queen) and Rebecca Madder (wicked witch) have sung their songs live. It's on RUclips
(Minor things were probably time to Rebecca's voice but Lana did seem to have more editing)

I don't know about the rest though. I'm sure they did editing to other voices that's what all shows do it seems.
I wish that the Blue fairy had sung, because the actress has a pretty good voice. She has sung a song live for something.

@@NoThankUBeQuiet actually both Jennifer & Ginny sang their own songs like all shows it’s pre- recorded and they lip sync. I have heard Ginny, Jennifer, Bex, Lana & Colin all sing live. Jennifer has an amazing voice which makes sense both her parents & brother are musically inclined. Lana can sing 5 octaves above high Soprano she said that the vocal coach they had told her that. 5 octaves above high soprano is pretty high.
I think they had to edit Lana’s voice on her EQ song because she can’t really sing that low. It was difficult for her. Her real voice is what you hear in the end song. She mention in an interview that she has a 5 octaves range. But to me I think she’s more comfortable in her higher singing voice than lower. I hated her EQ voice because it sounded & looked painful but fit the character.
