Thanks heaps for a great and honest review! I've loved the Cyborg R.A.T. 9 which was very comfortable for me and I'm used to heavier mice. Based on your video above, I am confident and informed enough to know what I'll be getting myself into, and I just ordered this on sale just right now (I was considering the Razer Viper Ultimate, but I really really loved the ergonomics of R.A.T. 9 which just died after 10 years. Appreciate reviews like yours. Thanks.
I got one a couple of days ago. I actually owned MOUS 9 before so I knew what to expect, so I wasn't really disappointed in the quality - I already got through it 10 years ago - The reason I bought it despite so, is because there's really no other mouse like it. I tried other "configurable" mouses over time, like Razer Ouroboros, but RATs were the ones that started the whole trend, and and the experience of owning a mouse like this, is to me, worth the price on its own.
Still got a BT Madcatz M.O.U.S and a Madcatz R.A.T 9 wired with weights. Both still work and thankfully haven't started to go into rubber reversion on the R.A.T.
I used to have the Saitek (Now MadCatz) Cyborg and it was truly a unique mouse. Screamed 2009. It had a Dpad, extra thumb button, adjustable scroll wheel spring, and a motorized length-selection to cap it all off.
I bought this mouse this week. Was super hyped about it the feel in my hands coming from logitech g9x was everything I dreamed of until I started using it. For me the mouse has severe and i mean severe "sicknessinducingmicrostutteringtrackingproblems". First I thought it was my trackpad. Tried 5 different still didnt work properly. Thought it was my pc. Tried 6 different pcs same microstuttering problems. After a week of trouble shooting I am finally giving up and returning the mouse on monday.
I have that problem also, but only on Bluetooth. On 2.5Ghz everything is fine, so I just use that. I am used to my 2013 RAT 5, so I am also used to weight, so it's not an issue for me. I love that mouse and its design, so I am happy that they did not change it. Also, I paid for it $80.
The design is perfect for my hand, I had the cable one since 2015 and now replaced it with the dws version, the design stayed almost exactly the same. But the battery is a bit hard to remove. I think I might have a manufacturing issue by a 10th of a millimeter.
I've been eyeing the RATs since childhood, their unique designs (which I still love to bits, even if I still prefer the og Saitek ones), 2nd scroll wheel and pinky rest. I still can't find anything I could obtain that has the latter 2 features, so I'm dead set on grabbing the DWS (and not the cheaper 8+) by the end of the month because, well, it's wireless (great for my cramped desk where my mouse wire gets caught on the kb), tiltable scroll wheel (cause I want as many inputs I can get, and none of the MMO-style mice I could find had an actual 2nd wheel like RATs do), and a hefty coupon expiring Oct 31st :) Also, I don't find placing the thumb panel detachment screw there, because, well, it has to go somewhere, and making it not detachable would seriously complicate repairing it, which I care about 'cause right to repair and I generally like serviceable things. Also it nails the part so many other mice (possibly purposely) fail - here you don't have to tear off the teflon pads to disassemble the mouse, which on other mice often instantly kills the pads necessitating a set of replacements.
thank you for covering the software too . . . my biggest concern. IMHO - owning the previous version, the primary issue keeping this from perfect is the left/right scroll; I program this input in nearly every game I play. On this mouse, it's chore to accurately make those inputs.
The thing for me is that the screw is right exactly where I put my thumb, making it feel like my thumb is falling asleep. I mean, why would you put the screw right there where the gripping part of your thumb is!?!?
Did you even notice that the software doesn't even allow to link to a specific game/program like pretty much every programmable mice at this range, or that the Bluetooth function doesn't have programming available? I'm talking about real problems here that most prospective buyers would like to know. Just my two cents.
All Madcats products are and always were expensive. Their Productquality was often poor for the price. This Mouse is a rerelease of the Mous9 upgraded with direct blootooth and Imo it is the best mouse available for work and casual gaming. AA Battery lasts 2 Months 8h a day, button profiles are easily programmeable. I wanted to ask how you can complain about discomfort with this mouse, since it allows for pretty much any type of handsize and gripping, but no wonder if you have arthritis. Maybe should have mentioned that the first time you complained about it, because people who don't have that rarely have problems.
These mouse have always been a "little extra". My first gaming mouse was a R.A.T. 3 that I got back in 2012 or so. My brother still uses it to this day. I went through a R.A.T. 9, R.A.T. 6+ and now a R.A.T. 8+. The R.A.T. 9 was a solid machine, it's switches always worked, but the sensor was awful to the point of unusable. It's wireless capabilities left a lot to be desired as well. I got a R.A.T. 6+ back when they first launched, hoping they would be better. This time the rear left button/switch failed. So I got a R.A.T. 8+. Same exact problem. These things wow people for a month. Then they forget it's there until it breaks. Never again with Madcatz.
For me, as I use my palm out of the mouse (I use my wrist as a pivot), this model (I had a Cyborg before) is the best. I feel that the lateral buttons other mouses are too far and the low height is interesting too.
I have still my Rat 9 running, but it seems that the DWS could finally replace that one, maybe. However 138g is still way less than the 193g that I am accustomed to with the Rat9 (163g plus the 6x5g weights).
Still using a RAT7. . . got to love the thumb rest and pinky rest with a sort of index / ring finger combo on the buttons... yeah, weird, but I like it :-p
@@szymontrojanowski7565 I've got 2 RAT7s... the first was an original, and the left click went bad. The second was only a year or two later, and it has lasted... but you could see the difference in the packaging, they were cheaping out
I need a mouse with a pinky wing. I had a R.A.T 9 back when it was Saitek Cyborg branded and I currently use Razor Ouroboros but its been discontinued. Is this my only option?
I also use the Ouroboros simply because when it came out it was the only gaming mouse usable for lefthanders with 3 thumb buttons. And it still seems to be to this day...
Did you faced any double click issue with your old mouse RAT 3? I am planning to buy RAT 6+. I cancelled Logitech G502 because of their double click issues.
😄 On a slightly unrelated note: do you know of any good keyboards that work both wired and wirelessly? Or is there literally no real issue with wireless lag when gaming nowadays? Just looking for a clean solution to my desktop/laptop desk setup
Hey there! Nowadays, you won't necessarily have lag issues with wireless mouse/keyboards, but I would recommend staying wired still. It gives less compatibility issues and you cant run out of battery during critical moments when wired. It also gives direct input, which is a must for gaming.
Hi Nick! The 'new age' options from Corsair/Logitech that use dedicated USB dongles are pretty much as fast as wired (at least from their own testing..). Gawbe is right though, you do need to keep an eye on battery level, although many of them have ridiculously long battery life so shouldn't be too much of an issue.
@@TechteamGB Thanks for the reply! Good to know there's not much in it speed wise - and I'm getting older so... xD I started looking at mice that connect via wireless (for a faster connection to the desktop) and bluetooth (for easier switching) - have only found the G603 with that set up though. Don't suppose you know of any others?
I loved the mad catz cyborg r.a.t. 9 - sadly the thumb rest broke on both i had, but at least i found good replacment for them. What i'm really sad about is the mad catz m.m.o 7, the best mmo mouse i ever had (the 4 way butten/joystick broke) and to this day, i haven't found a good replacment for it. I tried the mad catz m.m.o te, but the buttons where badly placed for me. I replaced it with the razer naga trinity, but the button placment is also not very good and i can't use half of the buttons without raising my hand - really miss that 4 way stick and the down button for the thumb from the mmo 7😥.
+1 for the MMO7, I found that to be a perfect balance for both shooters and MMOs. freaking love that mouse, it started having issues with the mouse click and the cable connection. Finaly died about 3 years ago. I just got this mouse the DWS and I do like this mouse a lot, I switched over to the G502 lightspeed and TBH I feel like the 502 is hans down the best mouse for all around of work/play. but nothing comes close to the layout of the buttons of the mighty MMO7. with 10 buttons laid out in the best way for your thumb to be able to hit every one of them without issues is just unrivaled. I was always waiting for the MMO9 to come out but it never did lol. hopfuly we get soemth in the vein of the MMO7 successor. the DWS is the R.A.T 9 with tilt only adding 2 extra buttons, but its closer to what I have been looking for. PS, why don't more mice come with pinky rest? I mean I feel like this shouldn't be something we are asking in 2022.
This mouse is really nice. But the software is crap... I can't save my settings for the DPI. I open the Software... Set the DPI settings... Push the apply button... Everything is fine. I close the software.. Start it again... Settings are back on Factory setting. Just every fu..ing time. I can't use the mouse with this software... Or am I doing something wrong?!?!?
Come on, that's literally the same software that was on mad catz R.A.T 6(been a rat user since rat.9 release)... If i could figure out how to power use a R.A.T 9 macro's possibilities as an early teen, you should be able to do so too.. Especially with the macro's, see the making mode? Simple... Maybe try changing that out to [advanced] first and then try to make complicated macro's.... Also who the hell thinks their mouse buttons are unmapped when they open the program with that very god damn same mouse, and and or not realize it's not the case when they try to use their mouse? Ps. i use rat's coz of tendon and joint issues + dual rsi's, the adjustments work fine and i've never even thought about my mouse tilting upwards wile in use, and i have big hands with a bootleg claw grip.
i love the rat air shape... always did. , but i dont like the new Madcatz company build is leess quality than the old company like rat 3 and 4. Until Rat4+ and up, its the new mices :(
it has the exact same design of the original Mad Catz M.O.U.S.9 (which has no driver for win 10, otherwise i would still use it). using Bluetooth, it's absolutely horrible, even for desktop apps. the accompanying software is very confusing, later i figured out that it saves your preferences in the mouse itself, not the PC, but it's still very glitchy, (i assigned the zoom to the extra wheel, and it didn't work for 2 days .. then it was working by its own), and i still can't delete profiles from the mouse memory, and of course there is no OSD, so i can't tell at which DPI level or which profile it is when i switch. bottom line (for me): great hardware with awful software, it's also very expensive, and they just copied the 8 years old m.o.u.s.9 design to the tiniest detail without any adjustment. i'm very disappointed about it.
Mad Catz is the worst supplier of peripherals I have ever bought, they bought over Saitek Industries, and then started to cheapen all the products they once made Saitek made quality items, Mad Catz turned them into junk.
Unfortunately I bought this pile of garbage as I absolutely loved the Rat 9. This however just has the looks of that mouse and nothing else. The Software ist horrible (none of the settings that I apply stick (they just reset after a reboot) and the mouse feels like it should cost no more than 40 bucks. Sending that pile of garbage back and leaving Mad Catz for good!
This review is utter bullshit... Complaining about its weight but it being marketed on being heavier than a normal mouse. The test at 5:01 is also nonsense. I tested this with roccat kone xtd, logitech g pro, razer basilisk ultimate, madcatz rat 9 and madcatz rat dws and the madcatz gave the best resoults of this idiotic test because they are heavy.
