- In this video i show you how to easily achieve a marble effect on your miniatures bases - you will need
Matt Varnish
Wet Wipes - these will need to be 100% dry
2 sprays of your choice - in this video im using Wraithbone by Citadel and Raven Black by Colour Forge
on a side note you could add an extra colour in just repeat the 2nd step with the additional colour.
also as stated you can apply this method to miniatures however once again the dry wipe must be super tight against whatever it is you are spraying

use a feather to make the veins as it helps with randomess, then use a medium to thin the edges, or a straw to push it
I wish I knew you can use wet wipes; thus far I tried the interlining tape ("taśma flizelinowa" in polish - unsure if that is correctly translated) which also gives interesting marble-like effect, but with much less flexibility (it's pretty stiff; it's also unpleasent to handle barehanded)
From another marble guide on youtube, I have seen someone sand the base down to achieve that smooth tile look rather than the porous texture these bases come with. this would also get rid/lessen the hole in the middle. Then applying this dry wipe method would result in I believe an excellent marble tile design.
definitely gonna use this effect but with one change at the end, i feel a thin layer of 'ard coat might make it shine that little bit more
if you line the base with plasticard or sand it to a fine finish prior youll get a beautifully smooth marble like finish@@definitelynotkemosabe
Great technique for an ice effect too. Just need to swap the black for light blue.

im rebasing my full 2k point custodes army, and im just wondering if you can re-use the wet-wipes?
As long as it not the same area that’s sprayed, I don’t see why not, you could probably do 4 bases to a wipe
Have seen the wet wipe technique for years but always with the airbrush, dunno why i never considered just rattlecans.
Also, for a change for this particular pattern as you mentioned it's just a very flat pattern, for this just printing and sticking it on would work just fine, gloss afterwards and it'd just work
If you either sanded the top of the base or just lined it with plasticard you could easily stick a printed picture onto a base
Go cheaper, just cereal box cardboard! :D

Also,before you dry the wipe,it helps to wash & rinse & wring it. Some wipes have chemicals that can mess with your paints...😊
Also...a TINY bit of gold stippled here & there in the black sections adds a bit to the effect (if desired)
Good shout about pre rinsing, didn’t think about that - and yeh you can add loads of little touches to make the patterns absolutely pop!
a great modification to the final step is to apply a thin coat of UV resin and then cure it - the marble comes out super smooth and with a great shine!
or if you don't have access to resin, line it with plasticard then give it a gloss varnish after - personally i think resin would give a more solid finish

Since you posted this a year ago let me ruin it for you again. You can make a very VERY good rug like the palace has by getting a red hand cloth and gluing it on to the base.

This could make a really cool looking iced over lake.
With light blue veins and white or deep blue you could make some beautiful cold ice styled ones, good call that!
Do you wait until the paint dry or immediately pull the tissue after painting?
It’s better if it’s dry I find, a quick blast with a hairdryer dries sprays in minutes
Is there a recommendation of wet wipes to use? I've tried 2 or so different brands but they dont have the fibrous effect you show, they just tear through. Are they specifically a cotton cleaning one or some sort of flushable?
The one so used on this video are the dirt cheapest ones you get from Tesco (supermarket) I think they are called fred and Lo in a bluish green packet and cost .70p

I'm going to do this for my Dark Eldar, but with one difference - using plasticard squares to create 'tiles', then doing the effect you showed.
If you spray the sheet then cut it and mix up the tiles it will save a lot of time doing them one by one. Good idea that!

What brand of wet wipes are you using? I’ve tried a few and they just don’t seem to pull apart like this.
These are literally just the cheapest I could find in my local Tescos - bright green packet and cost about £1.25p - take your time pulling them apart like I do, and make sure the wipe is 100% dried out

Would using laundry sheets have a similar effect to the wipe?
As long as when you pull it apart it has the same stringy look to it, I don’t see why not

Yep 100% dry before you do anything. I would recommend leaving flat on a window seal or radiator over night
Looks awesome! Any advice on how to achieve a similar effect on a 3d miniature? Will it still work wrapping the wipe around it?
As long as you can get the wipe tight against the surface you can use this for anything - I find twisting the wipe to once it’s around the area helps as it really keeps it flat against it

Please post your wet wipes brand. The last two packs I've bought have been the non-threading type and I don't want to buy a pack of each brand.
These were Fred and Flo from Tescos (UK) however I’ve also used Johnson’s aswell

I'm having a lot of dramas...... I appear to be sticking the wetsipe to the model during the spray of white paint...... I'm trying to take the (dry) wetwipe off and it just sticks to the base- do'esnt come off as easily as yours
Are the wipes 100% dry - make sure the wipe is incredibly tight around the base/part - if you are still getting problems build up the spray with multiple light passes
yes, super dry and tight- I might have forgot to matt varnish these three I've just pulled.

Guess we have different materials here in the states.
Just tried this with wetwipes I bought off the shelf and they were tough to pull apart....but if I pulled too hard they would rip apart. No idea how yours were so stretchy and perfect.
Got everything primed, did exactly as you shown and my armor plates came out to look like small gobbets of bloodspatter, not marble.
Really sucks. This is for my Knight Archeron....going to have to either change the paint scheme to match the white and red bloodspatter (this is supposed to be House Vornherr for my Loyalists..) or scrub it and start all over, forgetting this attempt at marble. Waste of 4 hours of trying to get everything without mistakes..
what was the brand you bought? a few people have said they tried flushable ones and they couldn't replicate the method, over here in the UK most of the wet wipes are pretty similar (I use really cheap ones from a supermarket and have tried a few different brands) and as long as they are completely dry I've had a consistent result, let me know and ill see what i can come up with for you, id also always recommend doing a practise pass on something like an old base etc to avoid having to strip a mini and save a bit of time.
How do you not have the wet wipe not leave little hairs on the base?
Make sure the wipe is 100% dry and light multiple passes with your spray
Not sure what I've done wrong with my initial try, but my wipe remained "glued" to the base and didn't completely go off after I tried to remove it. I probably should've let it dry but maybe my idea is wrong. Could you please advise?
The wipe needs to be 100% dry and make sure you build up the passes with light coats - also ensure the wipe is nice and tight/flat against the part you are spraying
@@cat_or_rabbit Thank you for quick reply. Probably I'll need to give it another try with applying ligher coats and let them dry. Also maybe I won't strech the wipe to such extent prior to spraying it, because I was afraid that it might get ripped while squeezing it at the back of the base
@@bartoszhojnacki2233 i find being quite firm with the wipe gives a better finish, the wipe wont rip, but you may get bigger holes etc as it stretches

It can take a couple of attempts to get it right, make sure they are 100% dry (pop them on a radiator over night or a window seal for a few days) and don’t be worried about stretching the wipe out more than you have to, also light passes with a your spray of that helps!

There are a bunch of different weaves and materials used for wipes nowadays so you also might have something different. I’m still hunting myself

You could probably use them although make sure they pull apart and are 100% dried out
Can you do this process on thick paper?
You can, i would recommend getting something like a small cork board and laying it flat, placing your card/paper on top and then pin one corner of the wipe, stretch it out over the piece of paper/card and pin it as you go, this way you will keep the wipe flat, tight and against the paper/card and give you the same effect, i would however say that the paper/card will need to be smaller than the wipe.
I just need tips on how not to rip the baby wipe.
What do you mean by rip away?

Have you tried this way, on vehicles
I’ve tried knight shoulder pads which worked fine, although bigger areas I’d recommend doing in sub assemblies or stages if you are dead set in doing it all in one - here in the U.K. you can get hard floor wipes which is the same material as regular wet wipes, I’d soak them in water, ring them out then leave to dry fully before using them.
I dont recommend flushable wipes. They do not stretch.
Good to know, these seem to be becoming more popular in the U.K - I haven’t tried them using this method but if they are no good, cheers for the heads up

@@cat_or_rabbit pretty well actually I've done a hand full of pairs. I'm really happy with how they turned out. Getting 3 or more colors is gonna be a issue tho.
@@patrickwillis13 if I was adding additional colours I maybe wouldn’t stretch out the wipes as much for a more even(ish) look
@@cat_or_rabbit oh the wipes aren't the problem it's the layers. When painting shoes layers have to be kept to a minimum. Adding additional colors ups the layers and lowers the wearability of the piece. I'll experiment with some idea and find a solution.
