Me at the store buying a pack of baby wipes Clerk, smiling: "Oh, man! Are there any news at home?" Me: "Well....yes. I'm trying to paint some marble effects" Clerk: "...pardon me?"
I just found this guide today and was like, oh yeah, I'll just order some baby wipes real quick and..... ooooh yeah. It's like, more hoarded than toilet paper lol. RIP my marble effect. Thanks corona virus!
Fantastic video. Also a video about trusting the process, because half of the time i thought that you ruined it, only to be proven wrong by a fantastic effect. It is truly surprising how things change in this hobby when they completely dry.
Probably the best marble tutorial ever. You managed to eliminate the intimidation factor and the he end result is quite breathtaking. Thank you for sharing!
Just amazing as always. I really love those videos in which you only show one element. Makes it very easy for beginners to recreate and are in general extremely helpfull!
This is one of the best guides I’ve ever seen. I’m going to use this to paint my scenery. I’m also going to make my stormcast match by using this on plastic card for slabs and putting it on their bases.
I absolutely love the music that you have in your videos. I enjoy watching your tutorials so much because the music is so cool, your style is awesome and I have learned something very new for my painting tool box for marble. Thank you!
I tried this today and it worked perfectly. Even on small bases. Just wrapped the baby wipes round the base. There was some weird residue though. Maybe I didn't put enough varnish. But it kind of added to the effect. Thanks. The bases look sick! Hope the models match the cool base!
Probably one of the best marble tutorials I have seen! I am going to give this a go for sure. Luckily as a parent to a toddler I have plenty of tesco baby wipes!
This is awesome! I was planning on trying the method that uses steel wool or a brillo pad pulled apart on some terrain and other bits. Just hadn't got around to going out and buying any steel wool/brillo... Watch this video, look to my side about 2ft away, pack of baby wipes... Well, guess I don't have to go out now :D
Man I have been looking for a base theme for my custom chapter and I definitely just found it here. Can’t wait to try this effect out! Thanks for the great tutorial!
Loves your video series. Fantastic marble work! I really appreciate you going over the products used but also the theory behind varnishing at various stages and how to use washes. Cheers!
@@VictorJeraldo Not really. Once I stretch them, I tape them to the bottom of the base to keep them in place. Cut the sheet up depending on size of the base.
A little tip from a stonemason when marble looses it's polish or is chipped it looses most of the visibility of the veins and is very pale almost white in most cases.
Anyone else hearing Richard Osmond? (Amaaazing paint work, Rob. That marble was what led me to the rest of your channel. And I love Richard Osmond so meaning no offense :-) )
Jeez that is beautiful. I wish I owned an airbrush now. I’ve got a base that would be perfect for marbling. Any chance you could experiment and maybe make a video for a technique with out an airbrush? 😅😅
You could use rattle cans. It doesn't HAVE to be airbrush but you'd of course have more control with an airbrush. Also, check out Amazon for some beginner airbrush sets you can get some really basic kits for roughly $100 they have everything you need for starting out/experimenting. That's what I did and eventually upgraded to a nicer airbrush but still use the crappy compressor.
Hey! Great tutorial. A suggestion about the dust particles and their fixing: Would it be a nice idea to give the base a final varnish coat and apply the pigments just after that so they get stucked?
That would work but would probably change the colour of the pigments. Also part of the benefit of using pigments is that they can be removed easily if you don't like them. Applying them over varnish removes this benefit.
This looks so awesome that I tried this with my Thanos Throne for Marvel Crisis Protocol. DON'T DO THIS WITH RATTLE CAN PAINTS. Used one from Citadel and it stuck the dryed wipe to the miniature... now I either gotta can it or try to clean off the stuck fluff... what a paine!
Great video Rob, never thought to try baby wipes to mask areas like that. Now I just need an excuse to try it out. If feeling the urge for ruined imperial temples theme for my Chaos Knights

Gotta say dude - very cool. I've heard of people doing this, but this is, hands down, the best tutorial I've seen of this technique.

Wow, awesome.
Marble has always troubled me but this made it so much easier. 3:03 would make a great Spiders Web effect as well
This is MARVELous, not something im doing on mine but its just great to see what's possible when someone puts time and effort in!
I've been trying to figure out a way to get my CSM to be in a lapus lazuli paint scheme, and your video is the key. Thank you!!
I've barely seen people publicly telling about the baby wipe method, so kudos for that.
After watching this I’m very glad I haven’t started working on any of my sisters yet. Definitely gonna use this for all of them!
"Make the holes bigger" - 2:35, seems legit
Amazing video.
This is gorgeous! I’m floored at how good this is
This is utterly brilliant. Great work and technique, thanks for sharing.
Absolute madness!!!!! that baby wipe technique, WHAT!?!?!? Thank you
Great paint job! Love the baby wipes idea. I'm painting sisters of battle so this is right on the spot for me :) keep it up!
So simple, so cool. Can't WAIT to try this out! Thanks for sharing!!
Learned a lot about different mediums and techniques from this, awesome work!

Wow, nice one. Easy to do, but with the great performance. Great job, Rob
This looks absolutely amazing! almost too amazing to add the figures on later!!! Well done, and thank you
Great tutorial. Will be using this technique on the wings and stasis chamber of my Dark Talon.
Superb. Worked like a charm.
That was freaking awesome!!👍I would never have thought of that.
Incredible 500+IQ Galaxy brain move right there. Absolutely love it. 10/10.
Holy smokes this is awesome! And also perfect for my lads of the IIIrd Legion. Thanks so very much for this tutorial.
Thinking about doing this on some stormcasts with red marble armor and nmm trim. Epic tutorial mate, love it!

I’ll give that a go. I’ve used dryer sheets that have gone through the dryer already as well for a similar effect.
Honestly this is what I'm gonna do. It's already dried
That's super cool!
looks like a nice ripe Stilton
Thank you. I'm going to try and use the greys and whites for my veins and try Green as the main color.
This is awesome!

Incredible work. Thank you.
Runs out to Tesco at 5am before the hoard descends. Rob doing for baby wipes what Delia Smith did for Cranberries.
Totally amazing effect !! Thanks for sharing and sending out another video!
Wow, what a great technique! Thanks for sharing 🙏
I did the same strategy for ice, thanks for the great video!
just knocked out nearly 100 bases with your recipe, thanks!
I love this guide and has been my go to for my Lumineth Realm Lord Bases. Great work!
Man I have been looking for a base theme for my custom chapter and I definitely just found it here. Can’t wait to try this effect out! Thanks for the great tutorial!
1:57 Blue Stilton!
Superb effect, ingeniously hatched. If I had a hat, I'd take it off. All best.
Great vid Rob, been waiting for this, since you said you were doing it. I’m going to try this on my sisters
Get their permission first.
Excellent explanation and how-to video. You deserve a ton more subscribers.
Thank you for sharing. This was VERY helpful. Awesome!

Stunning
Lovely work Robert. Thanks for sharing the dark arts of wet wipes. Must try that sometime. Appreciated 🤘🏻
Very cool effect!
Dryer sheets also have the same porous texture as the wipes
The effect ends up being slightly different, but still quite workable. Just did a test base and it came out pretty well.
@@eriknoble8100 Is there any problem with keeping them taught over the surface?

Luke Towan mists the Iso alcohol onto his dioramas rather than paint it on with a paintbrush. Takes a fraction of the time.
Looks amazing, dude.
This is amazing
Just... damn. VERY cool. Great vid and technique.
Superb idea for getting the marble pattern!
Great job as always Rob!!!!!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing this technique!
This is excellent, I learned a lot of things from this one video. Thanks!
absolutely amazing
Phenomenal result! Nothing else to say, really!
Incroyable !!!
great tutorial! Very well explained with a good veriety of techniques!

A little tip from a stonemason when marble looses it's polish or is chipped it looses most of the visibility of the veins and is very pale almost white in most cases.
I will never be able to do this but man is it beautiful!!!
Awesome and inspiring
Great vid Rob. You can clean your wash enamel with White-spirit on a moistened hand paper an fix your pigment also with white-spirit.
This is true I just don't like how regular White Spirit smells.
Exactly Rob, but it save money. Because all this prepared products cost.
Thanks I'll give this a shot on my next terrain
Lovely, lovely base dude. *Runs off to the chemist to buy some baby wipes for the first time in his life !*
Thank you. Been wanting to paint marble but wasn't sure how to start.
Seems like you could make some nice looking spider webs using the same stuff. Cool video Rob.
Wow, that is genius :D
I'm experimenting with some marble right now, this will be very helpful!
after seeing how easy this is the achieve i wish I hadn't bases my sisters already
Thank you, there is very good method.

Dude, thank you so much.
Thank you for this video! Her when I need it! :D
This is just what i want ty - amazing!
Great tutorial, i tried and had awesome results :D

I think I would stop before doing the sand/dust, personally. However this is an absolutely fantastic tutorial, thanks!
