I have a 2016 Latitude 4x4 with the optional 18" wheels. Love it! No problems at all and the build quality is awesome. IF you are looking at the Renegade keep in mind that with the automatic that it will take some getting use to. When you have so many gear ratios it takes a second or two for the transmission to downshift through those gears and you may feel a second or two delay. Nothing wrong with the transmission and I really like the smoothness of it in everyday driving. I think that Jeep has a definite winner on its hands. I owned 2 NIssan Jukes in the past and can say for sure that the Renegade is by far better in every way. The only area that I think there could be improvement is in the base speakers. You shouldn't have to get the Beats speaker upgrade for better sound, it should be standard.

Great review, but disagree with the thought that the 1.4 Turbo isn't enough for the weight of the car... Maybe if you want to tow something, but not otherwise. We just got that and there's been no problem passing, even while going uphill. And you get better low end torque. And none of the issues with the 9 speed auto. Give the 6 speed manual a try!!!

The 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk SUV has a recurring power seat problem that prevents the use of the 8-way and lumbar functions. The problem causes the driver seat to freeze and lock into a position on the seat floor tracks. This could create a serious problem in the event of an emergency. The dealer service department is clueless on fixing the problem.

I have a 1.4 Sport with the 6 speed manual, it scoots along quite well. The only complaint is the lack of an available CD player and its missing an ash tray/waste receptacle, which it really needs...come on Fiat, that's a brain-fart to leave off.

A few points. The standard transmission with the 1.4-liter is the 6-speed manual. If you opt for the 2.4-liter Tigershark, the 9-speed is standard. Second, while while the turbocharged engine has 20 less ponies, it has more torque at a much lower RPM. In the Sport and Latitude, the Renegade weighs less than a loaded-up Limited, so the turbo is actually a fraction of a second faster in the 0-60 run. Personally, I would take the 4x4 Latitude with the manual, navigation, Beats audio option and cold weather package and be out the door around $25K. That's a pretty cool compact SUV with some real off-road ability.

Thats too funny , You described my 2015 Renegade Latitude exactly I have owned it for about 8 months and love it.
1.4L 6 speed stick is so nice. I would love to have the tow hooks of the trail hawk but you cant have everything. Uconnect probably isn't as nice as Bluelink from Hyundai but still does the job well enough.

  • @rupertsuzuki3376

    I have a 2017 Trailhawk 2.4 litre 9 speed.
    My overall rating; 85%
I like it, overall my issues are small.
    My nitpicks:
I have had nothing but reoccurring issues with the left door...every aspect of it.
The lug nuts suck, change them before you get stranded...
The seat could be better ergonomically for me.
The steering wheel seems a little off Center (it took a long time to notice this, super minor unless your completely OCD...I am).
The radio doesn’t play all files so a lot of my music on my thumb drive doesn’t play.
The shifter has a manual mode that is easy to pop into when you don’t want it.
The throttle response (only at certain random times) is crap, almost dangerous, you stab at the pedal to pull out and it just goes flat for a second...
It feels like it’s on the very limit of acceptable bump steer,
Now all that sounds like I don’t like it.
    But I do.
The car has been bulletproof other than the door and my dealer has been good about addressing my concerns, considering I didn’t buy it from him that says a lot (he’s getting the next sale).
The fuel economy is as advertised, so I’m happy it met my expectations as so many manufacturers don’t and it’s really good IMO, I get 8.2 highway, average blended (city/hwy) in the summer about 9.5, winter about 10.9 (ain’t auto start great; warm car, warm seat and warm steering wheel) and have never have seen the 12.9 city they claim.
The AWD and 4x4 work awesome, with my Nokian Hackapaleta’s I have never had better winter transport (if only for the left door...).
It tows my utility trailer great and the factory hitch is really nicely integrated.
They put a ton of little “attention to detail” things that nobody else does and it makes it a really nice car.
Love the steering wheel, not just the heating, it’s top shelf.
I love how versatile it is, not to big, not to small, I don’t have to get down to get in or climb up into it, it does everything I need.
    I love the ground clearance.
The chassis seems solid, I’ve taken a hit I figured would put most on a tow hook but it was literally a non-issue.
And it has what no other competitors have; 4 low: It matters, it works, period.
I’m considering buying another one next year, or maybe another from the brand and that’s the best endorsement I can give.

Thanks! I had a great time reviewing the Renegade and I'm a big fan of it. I do recommend for someone such as yourself because
      a) it is stylish with a touch of Jeep ruggedness
      b) it's fuel efficient, especially for its segment and
      c) every compact crossover sacrifices some interior space, such as the rear seats. However, the Renegade offers more space, such as headroom, than, say, a Nissan Juke.
Also check out my unboxing video of the Kia Soul. I think that'll interest you, too. Good luck with your purchase.

We rented a trail-hawk to take to Death Valley and it did well on the dirt, but on the street it did the same thing you described: when in traffic with the engine under a light load I pressed down on the accelerator and NOTHING happened for few seconds - it was like the gas peddle was disconnected for those seconds. A little alarming for a car with only 17k on the odometer. I don't know if if it was the engine management computer of that always searching for a gear 9 speed auto, but if I owned it it would take it to the dealer. In both instances the little jeep was wormed up. For jeep's sake, I hope this isn't a common problem.

You won't have the vibration issues. Another tip is, if you're in the car yourself with the roof off, plug in the front passenger seat belt. Otherwise it will flap in the wind. Once you do this, you'll be happy with it. It took me a while to figure these out. Having the roof off on a hot day is great. It's like having a convertible.

The Trail Hawk trim interior is identical to that of the Limited's (this example), save for "Trail Hawk" badges.

My mom bought this car today.....women LOVE this car ......she paid
waaaaay waaaay too much for it in my opinion. Well done for the
designers .....they seemed to have done a great job in cracking the code
in drawing in the quirky emotive legacy of Jeep and messing with
nostalgic women's minds...throws all sensibility and rational thought
RIGHT OUT the window. I just could not reason with her to not buy
it.....she was a women ON AN IMPULSIVE MISSION.She is 60 and has no
clue what SAT NAV is or any of the tech features it has...."Oh that is
nice dear"......First thing she asks ..."Where is the handbrake ?????"

Ask any Fiat 500 Abarth owner about the 1.4T Multiair motor. It's a proven engine. Not typical Fiat garbage at all.

Some constructive input, if I may... not sure what your current content sounds like, but please cut all your stammers and "uh's" and "um's" out of your voice over. It's really distracting to watch when you keep tripping over your words and there are so many uh's and um's. Great review otherwise. Thanks.

2:16 and 7:43 filled with mis-information. Don't make geralizations without clarification unless your goal is to write a poor, lazy review. The 4x2 Sport model equipped with 1.4T motor & 6-speed manual weighs only 3000 lbs. Plus, it generates more torque than the 2.4L motor, which is plagued with serious issues like turning off randomly, huge oil consumption, and excessive NVH. Oddly enough, you have to pay to upgrade your new Renegade the crappier engine & transmission. It makes buying the base model feel like you robbed the bank and got away with it. The fwd Sport Turbo has absolutely zero problems merging onto the hwy. I can easily hit 90-100 mph by the bottom of the on-ramp.

      @ppopovich2847 5 лет назад

A well-launched, stock, fwd Sport with 6-spd can hit low 8s in the 0-60mph dash. Strong tuner market for this motor also means that high 7's are only a few $$ away.

+CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars
The car requires software updates but when it requires one it doesn't say it just starts jerking or completely shuts off while driving. We take it to the dealership they update it and it's fine again then again and again. Also we asked if updates were going to cost money after the warranty was up and they said yes. It cost like 108 for an update and if you have to keep doing it the car is not worth it.

Is a jeep dealer the only place that can do the updates or can a regular garage get them and apply them?

33k? might as well go for a Tesla.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  8 лет назад

How can you compare the Renegade to an EV? Two completely different types of cars and technologies. Plus, the $33k Tesla you're referring to (the Model 3, I assume) isn't even on sale yet and won't be for another couple of years. You're essentially comparing apples to oranges. BTW, within the compact crossover segment itself, the Renegade is very competitively priced.
