So in this first in a series I plan on starting (as long as you all want to see it!) I rank Fear Factory's albums. Since their new vocalist Milo Silvestro was recently announced and they finally embarked on their tour with Static X, I thought it was apt to continue the theme and rank their albums.
My interviews with Dino Cazares and Milo Silvestro are included below:
Dino Interview: • WORLD EXCLUSIVE - Dino...
Milo Interview: • EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW wi...
Let me know what your Fear Factory preferences are in the comments and if there's any other bands you'd like to see me rank, drop me a comment!

Demanufacture is and will always be my favourite Fear Factory album and is 1 of my top releases of the 90s. It holds so many good memories of the time for me
It's a cracking album isn't it? Completely iconic! Thanks for checking out the video!
I used to love it and but it has not aged very well. The songs and as a whole it's amazing, yes but Obsolete and the new album are just crushing Demanufacture as a complete package and production values. Still what a nice dilemma to battle for the best album, nothing but 5 star records.
Obsolete is better
@@cmsull3316 that album ages like wine fine!
We can all debate best albums, there's one for each type and feel of this type of music.
Demanufacture also has the best cover art. Sure the Photoshop is a little dated looking but it's still one of my favorites of all time. Plus, Zero Signal from the Mortal Kombat soundtrack literally got me into metal. Couldn't believe what I was hearing at the time.
Even after all this time, the cover art for Demanufacture is still striking. I really need to get hold of a Demanufacture long sleeve!
I think Zero Signal had that impact on a lot of people, you're definitely not alone in that! Thanks for watching the video, I really appreciate it!
@@theheavymetaljournal BTW, my wife loves the expression "choppy changy" so she got a kick from that part. Keep up the good work.
@@LightCyrus hahaha awww that's brilliant! That's made my day, thank you!
Zero Signal is by far my favorite FF song!! 🤘🤘
great ranking. personally transgression is one of my favorite FF albums, i love the different sound of it and it has a lot of underappreciated variety in my opinion.
I love that you did this vid!!!!
My TOP3:
1- Obsolete
2- Demanufacture
3- Soul of a New Machine
This is such a great vid!!! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for watching it! I really appreciate it!
That was a fun one. Fell in love with this band early when I started listening to metal in my teens. Must be twenty years now and still love their music. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching!
I would love to see more videos like this. your videos are awesome!!🤘
Thank you so much! I'll definitely do more ranking videos!
I love fear factory. Thank you for the video
Same here, absolutely phenomenal band! Thanks for checking out the video!
I saw fear factory twice on tour this year 🤟🎸
I like your outlook on this,I will have to give one of fear factory myself
Thank you! I'd love to see your ranking!
Just finished listening to Demanufacture for the 1st time today after watching your vid. Obsolete was how i got into Fear Factory and that is an alltime favorite for me. I really liked that album. Making my way through the catalog today and this week!
Love your list! Definitely earned a sub 🤟🤟🤟
Thank you so much! Welcome to the team!
Nice ranking. I've heard nothing but praise for Demanufacture, and now that I've given it several listens, I can see why. The album only gets better as you start to notice all the little industrial sounds peppered throughout. Plus Self Bias Resistor is like the greatest thing ever recorded. It's kinda weird though. I finally got serious about checking out their discography, which is something I have wanted to do ever since seeing the video for Dielectric, but just never got around to it. Now, I've listened to their first four albums (Archetype is next) and now that things have clicked, I find out that Burton C Bell left the band! I'm starting to dig this guys vocals and now he's left! Well, I suppose I do look forward to seeing what his replacement has to offer...
Your list is on point, I wouldn't change a thing on it.
Awesome, I appreciate that, thanks for checking out the video! More album rankings are coming this week
I discovered Fear Factory the exact same way! I couldn't get enough of that fight scene as a kid.
Thanks for the video Linds 😎 My order of FF albums is pretty much identical to yours. Would love to see your rankings of Behemoth, Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir albums in the coming weeks. Take care!
Trust you to pick bands I love to rank 🤣
Consider it done, thanks for checking out the video!
Have to admit, the most recent FF album in my possession is Digimortal. This list might encourage me to explore a couple of the recent ones. Thanks for posting this.
IMO, SOANM has that "debut album" feel in the sense that there are some great tracks but they hadn't fully worked out their style and it doesn't quite flow as an album. As for the other albums, Demanufacture blew me away in '95 and '96 and I played it to death (another way of saying that I'm old :P), and I still listen occasionally; it also made me buy a Head of David album to hear the original of "Dog Day Sunrise". "Obsolete" was a more challenging listen (unusual time signatures, for example) but very rewarding.
If you do listen to the other albums, please let me know what you think! Thanks for watching!
Love this video even though I would swap some of it around but each to their own. Definitely would like to see more ranking videos. Maybe paradise lost next?
That's totally fair, everyone's ranking will be different!
Ohhhhh you're killing me with ranking Paradise Lost, they're another favourite of mine but consider it done!
Thanks for checking out the video!
I don’t know if I could rank the albums. But I can’t argue with your list. Being more into Rock than Metal, Transgression was an instant like for me, but it does stand out a lot from the discography. It definitely deserves to be ranked last.
I love that you bring up the MK soundtrack. Such an influential sound track for me
It's such an amazing soundtrack!
I love it too 😍
I really love Fear Factory and your ranking is pretty much the same as mine. I would love to see more of these ranking videos, but only if it doesnt cause too much trauma for you haha. I can understand the pain tho, its like picking which child you like better.
Oh it honestly was exactly like that trying to rank them lol. Thanks for your continued support!
@@theheavymetaljournal Oh no, thank YOU for making these videos. Would love to see a Mastodon, Gojira, Amon Amarth ranking in the future sometime. 🙂

Fear Factory is my favorite band too. Mechanize and Demanufacture are my favorites.
Brilliant albums! They're just so good!
Hey!!! For some strange reason I hadn't discovered this channel....wow...excellent video and guess what...FF is the soundtrack band of my life and their works are masterpieces...here is my personal ranking list of albums, based not only on the entire album but on my favorite songs. keep up the great work!!!!
1. Obsolete
2.Demanufacture
3.Genexus
4.The Industrialist
5. Archetype
6. Digimortal
7.Mechanize
8. Soul of a New Machine
9. Aggression Continuum
10.Transgression
Great list. My personal would be 1 Obsolete, 2 Demanufacture, 3 The Industrialist. Glad you gave Industrialist recognition; most people just kind of brush it aside, but its incredible.
Good list, I might switch Soul of a New Machine and Archetype for my own list but this was a pretty solid ranking. Great to see that Aggression Continuum love, that album is so fucking good.
Awesome, thanks for checking out the video! It took me a solid week to rank them, it was so hard 🤣🙈
Archetype is amazing!!!!
Watching now! Just made my video today.
I'll check it out!
official... i love you...😍😍😍😍😍😍

Thank you for subscribing and welcome!
I discovered FF from the video game Carmageddon when I was younger and have loved them ever since.
Totally agree on Transgression but as for the rest of FF's albums it's tough to make a list as I really responded well to all of them. 👍
Oh, and yeah, you're correct about Gary Numan being the voice of the Obsolete intro.
Pretty much how I'd rank them. Aggression Continuum is a banger! No mention of Securitron on your round-up of Obsolete, though? That's one of my all time fave FF songs, can't wait to hear Milo singing it!
Securitron is a masterpiece
Rankings for me (new sub btw, great vid!):
- Demanufacture
- Obsolete
- Mechanize
- Archetype
- SOANM
- Digimortal
- Genexus
- Agg. Continuum
- The Industrialist
- Transgression
Typical FF fan list as far as it goes, but i´ll could rank Transgression higher by doing something very specific, so bear with me (I recommend you do this too for a much better listening experience).
1- Discard the grand majority of tracks from the playlist that are considered filler for the most part, mainly IMO like Echo of my Scream, Supernova, I will follow (that thing sucks ass even as a cover), Millenium (which is another cover), and Empire.
2- Search in YT or the web the 3 following songs that didn´t make it into the album: My Grave, Ammunition and Anthem (the actually good cover that should have made it´s way into the record), however 2 of the 3 are not even rawly produced like the majority of the album, but actually unfinished (Ammunition specially) so I recommend using a software for tweaking what it´s possible to do with the already created tracks, and then incorporate these 3 songs into the established Transgression playlist.
3- And finally, rearrange in the order you feel is the most appropiate for all of the songs to flow, but at this stage you will notice a sustancial difference and even an improvement to the record´s progression as a whole, and while it´s still not a 100% sounding FF record, the writing and experimentation of it makes it personally a much more enjoyable experience than The Industrialist or even Agg. Cont. (2 good records that are the epitome of playing it TOO safe for their own good).
I'm definitely going to try this out and see what changes for me. Thank you for the recommendation and for subscribing! I really appreciate it!
Love this. Demanufacture is a masterpiece, with dog day sunrise in my opinion being the one hiccup 😂 but more rankings!!!
KoRn ranking next??
Dog Day Sunrise does stand out a bit but I still like it a lot!
I'll get KoRn added to my list for sure!
If you didn't know, DDSR is a cover song, hopefully that makes you like it a little bit more.
@@disco_duckbillyea, Head Of David!
Very good video. I really liked that you had to say about Fear factory. First off I'll tell you how long I've been into to them. I first heard replica and I was like I need to hear more by this band. And of course I buy Demanufacture. I've only seen them twice and both times with Burton. So my top 10 is starts of with Demanufacture, 2nd Transgression, 3rd Genexus, 4th Digimortal, 5th The industrialist, 6th Obsolete, 7th Archetype, 8th Aggression continuum, 9th Mechanize, 10th soul of a new machine.
Took my DJ name/nickname from Soul Of A New Machine, so loving this take on their albums. ( DJ Scapegoat )
Gotta say though, Transgression does feature FF's best cover song - Killing Joke's "Millennium".
My personal top 5 would be Demanufacture, Obsolete, Archetype, Soul Of A New Machine, then Mechanise.
Subbed!
Awesome ranking and thanks so much for the sub! I appreciate it 😁
@@theheavymetaljournal Have you heard "ManicCure" from the 12" Gabber Mixes EP?
Great video. Really enjoyed this. Fear Factory is an amazing band. Mechanize is my favorite, no doubt about it. It just rips from start to finish. I'm blown away every time I hear it.
1. Mechanize
2. Demanufacture
3. Aggression Continuum
4. Obsolete
5. Genexus
6. Digimortal
7. Archetype
8. Soul of a New Machine
9. The Industrialist
10. Transgression
Simply my favorite Industrial Metal band Ever 😍.
The trilogy (Demanufacture, Obsolete, Digimortal) showcase how much ahead of their time they were 😌
My top 5 fav album...
1- Obsolete
2- Genexus (Discovered them with this album, yes pretty late lol)
3- Agression Continuum
4- Demanufacture
5- Digimortal
I'm disagreeing with myself 🤣
But Obsolete is my all time Fav for sure❤

“I must remove my skin…to see relief in your eyes”
First and foremost; thank you for hurting and punishing yourself on our behalf. Quite masochistic so much so shared your vid on my personal facebook, admittedly. Never have hear or seen, totality of unfamiliarity, with you and your channel. Simply could not find the two FF I sought and just the sheer impressive impression. Amount of insurmountable respect and courageousness 🫡🤘🏾
Secondly they’re your fav band
Third. Recall my first experience, instant fandom. Goin to see Megadeth. Now granted was a fan just not a MEGA one went to see Korn. Fear Factory was first, greatest thing ever seen at time. This was like second or third show. First being SLAYER, biohazard and machine head. I saw Deftones somewhere around here(I suppose I will finally check to get the facts of my autobiography in order) and they had two bands I really enjoyed throw your way….Downset and Orange 9mm…
Long story short not by RUclips comments invariably…Korn got sick. Stayed FEAR FACTORY fan…I was 16 now 42…saw them many years later on Mecahnize tour….and your vernacular or diction perhaps 🤔 on INDUSTRIALIST, leads me to the belief you fancy yourself a reader? Perhaps enjoy the films that are off kilter?

Good band :) I liked them when they played death metal, I like them now that they play industrial/groove :) nice video :) I feel good seeing girls talk about metal :)
I got to see them live for Digimortal it was so awesome!
That must have been an epic show!
I discovered Fear Factory from the video game "Test Drive 4X4" (Test Drive Off-Road 2 in North America) on PlayStation back in 1999, "Shock" from "Obsolete" was featured in the game and it was absolutely amazing and suited for the racing tracks, since then I'm a big fan of the band
I loved that game! I remember it well!
Great Ranking! Top 3 for me; Demanufacture, Mechanize and Aggression Continnium

Good to see a list that doesn't just favour the early records
I know a lot of fans prefer their older stuff but I really like their newer stuff too!
Thanks for checking out the video!
For me it's
10) Soul of a new machine
9)Transgression
8) Archetype
7) Digimortal
6) Aggression Continuum
5) The industrialist
4) Mechanize
3) Genexus
1) Demanufacture (Joint #1)
1) Obsolete (Joint #1)
Although Milo almost in a way gets Burtons Sound/style down (from what i heard on a live video i saw a few days ago), I'm not sure he will do the band justice when it comes to writting material/ actually writting his own material for them. I hope I'm wrong, i Just got a feeling he won't produce great material 😕. Well least i got to see Fear Factory twice with Burton I'll always hold that in my good memory bank.
Great list, Identical to mine other than Aggression Continuum because I just haven't really given it a good listen yet.
Ohhhhh you definitely should! Let me know what you think when you get round to it. Thanks for checking out the video!
Fear factory is the evolucion of revolucion!!!!
WAU ..YOU ARE REAL ..FEAR FACTORY - WOMAN = MY BIG TOP 3
1 - DEMANUFACTURE
2 - OBSOLETE
3 - ARCHETYPE
Trangression is definitely a very inconsistent album from them, its a mix of cover songs and original songs but theres no real concept to it other than them as a band expressing their musical influences on it, I do agree that it is their weakest album, but it does have a place in my heart because I bought this when it came out, and during that time I had a job that was out of town from were I lived, I didn’t have a car, and the bus ride took me two hours to get there, and I remember Transgression being one of the CDs that I carried around in my bag and use to listen to on those dark lonely bus rides back home and that kept me going, along with, In The Arms Of God by Corrosion Of Conformity and Start A War by Static-X on cd also, I would just get stoned at the bus stop and listen to these all the time hecka loud under my headphones.
Empty Vision and Moment Of Impact were definitely my favs that I would listen to first whenever I would listen to Transgression.
It's not a bad album, that's the thing! It just didn't sound like Fear Factory for me but it's cool that other people have a special place for it!
I feel ya, for sure, it’s the oddball of the catalog, and it really doesn’t have that Fear Factory sound, and my friends would tell me the same thing also lol 🤘🏽🤘🏽
You forgot to mention Dog Day Sunrise off Demanufacture such a great tune to break up that album.Bought this album when it came out and still listen to it alot, cheers.
without any order...my top 3...Digimortal, Demanufacture and Mechanize
A brilliant pick for your top 3! Thank you for sharing it!
Hatefiles is a good b side album also
As a fan of the transgression album, thank you for at least justifying your reasoning for not liking it. Everyone else seems to just disregard it and put it in their F tier list without explanation! Great video!
Yeah I always like to explain why I don't like something rather than just be like "nah this is crap."
Thanks for checking out the video!
A huge FF of 23 years and I simply dont do album ranks. For me, if you complie all my favourite FF tracks, that is my album 🤣 the first album I got into was ‘Digimortal’ when I was 15, you can say it has a lot of sentimental value to me but I still wont rank it as my favourite or give it a number ranking. I kind of guessed majority least favourite is ‘Transgression’ and most popular is ‘Demanufacture’ so it’s good to see your list and opinions of each album.
Check out Mechina's version of Zero Signal!
I definitely will check it out!
I think most of us got into Fear Factory because of Mortal Kombat xD What a great time it was.
Transgression was so much better then archetype and anything that came out since 2015
Nice one. FF are my 4th favourite band. Been into them since 98. I felt their latest two albums were great and helped to solidify their legacy. Don't know if they should be continuing without Burton or not. It's pretty late in the day to get a new singer in.
For me it goes.. Demanufacture, Obsolete, Genexus, Archetype, AggCon, Mechanize, SOANM, Digimortal, The Industrialist, Transgression
That's a fair opinion, we'll just have to see what happens when new material comes out!
Great ranking too! Thanks for checking out the video!
@@theheavymetaljournal Cheers for the reply and thanks!
Dino put a lot of work into getting AggCon out so if he wants to tour that and needs a replacement singer I get that and have no problem with it.
New material is sort of a different story but maybe it will be great stuff, who knows. But lets face it, it won't quite be FF without Burton. I'll enjoy it as kinda a side project.
Aggression continuum has one of their best tracks on it I will admit this
No one asked, but here I go: I rank the albums by the number of songs they have on them that I actively choose to play, as opposed to just listening to if they come up on a shuffle, and not by how much I like any particular song(s) on the album, otherwise Archetype might be #1 because of Slaver Labor. So the higher the number, the higher I rank the album.
1. Genexus (8 songs)
2. Agression Continuum (7 songs)
3. Mechanize (5 songs)
4. Digimortal (5 songs)
5. Demanufacture (4 songs)
6. Archetype (4 songs)
7. Transgression (3 songs)
8. Obsolete (2 songs, but I like them more than the 2 songs I like on The Industrialist)
9. The Industrialist (2 songs)
10. Soul of the New Machine (0 songs - as I don't own it. )
My fav band too mate DEMANUFACTURE is my fav album
All time
It's an absolutely flawless album, thanks for checking out the video!
I grew up with Fear Factory. Been listening to them since high school. Graduated in 2001. I don't think they will ever beat Demanufacture, but they have an incredible discography overall. They must have released over 200 songs by now if you count the remixes.
I'm surprised you like Industrialist though, I just couldn't take that drum machine sound. I heard they released a new version with actual drums but I never heard it. I saw them live opening for Slipknot, Chimaira was there too...good show but honestly Burtons voice sounded really bad live. I'm looking forward to seeing what they produce with the new vocalist.
That's fair, a lot of people say that about The Industrialist but I really vibed with it! It definitely translates better live though.
I agree with you about Burton's vocals. He just didn't look after his voice at all. Last time I saw them live was the Demanufacture Anniversary tour and he was just all over the place unfortunately. From what I've seen so far, Milo is killing it!
My no.1 as well and probably most peoples. Digimortal my no.2
For me, it goes like this:
1. Demanufacture
2. Obsolete
3. Mechanize
4. Soul of a New Machine
5. Archetype
6. Aggression Continuum
7. Digimortal
8. Genexus
9. The Industrialist

I saw an interview with them where they said they dont understand how they came up with manufacturer. They got asked if they could ever top this album and they kinda laughed and said no chance as they dont understand how they did it in the first place.
Soul of A New Machine. I was surprised you didn't mention Scumgrief, which though I don't agree with the lyrics, the instrumentation and singing are phenomenal.
Yeah I do like that track but I understand people get a bit funny about the lyrics

I must be the only one who just can't bang with SOANM. The flow of the album sucks to me...especially compared to the rest of their roster, half the songs on the album I can barely even understand what burtons saying and even his growls just sounded out of place, like he was still looking for the right sound. I couldn't possibly disagree more about having Aggression Continuum at #2. "Collapse" is an absolute beast of a song, but the rest of the album is extremely boring and forgettable. I'd bump this album all the way down sitting just above Transgression. I'm honestly that bored by it.
The rest of your rankings align pretty much the same as mine, just a few tweaks to the bottom rankings. Starting with the worst, I have it: Transgression, Aggression Continuum, Archetype, Soul of a New Machine.
That's absolutely fair! But that's the great thing about metal (and any artform really) it's all completely subjective!
@theheavymetaljournal touche! Fear Factory are badass!!
BTW, are you a Godflesh fan? That's one of the bands that inspired Fear Factory, at least from Burton's point of view.
I love your voice and your very pretty. Obsolete and transgression for life.
It’s pronounced aggression “kun-tin-you-em”……not “kun-tin-em”.
Fear Factory is still one of my top favorite bands of all time, so I enjoyed your ranking video. My ranking would have a few 1 to 2 place swaps here and there, but yours is pretty close to what mine would probably be. I actually first got into Fear Factory back when I used to watch fan-made video game music videos as a kid, and I saw a Parasite Eve music video using cutscenes from the game set to FF's Shock. I loved that song and looked into the rest of the band's discography, and instantly became a huge fan.
They're so easy to get in to aren't they? Their music is just so dramatic and addictive!
@@theheavymetaljournal Agreed!
