Thanks for the video! FYI, Ed shows the 17" max spread being measured at floor level, not at rope level. So, yours may be splayed too much which could cause rope pull-through.
So, what size of scrap do you need if working from scraps not whole sheets? I have a lot of scraps and I'm not as interested if I can't use them... Also is 1/2" OSB going to work okay?
I think it is funny when people say they invented something that has been around for decades, my dad and his contractor friends used to make some VERY similar to these back in the 70's except they made them out of cabinet grade plywood. Good video, I had forgotten all about these.
Yep, used to make these all the time. If you don’t have hinges (who does?), just line up the top edges and drive a few 16ds all the way through. Then spread them back open to what ever width you want. Lastly, use the piece you cut out of the middle as the “stringer” to hold the legs in place. Makes a nice tool table underneath too.
When still doing construction I had a superintendent that tested prospective carpenters by asking them to build a matching set of saw horses. He had some great stories about experienced carpenters taking many hours to complete 1 saw horse, or not being able to produce even 1 usable example.
I will still use my 9, 2×4 design. I have horses in the yard , twenty years outside still working for me , albeit 5 1/12 inches shorter due to hoof rot.

I would use chain instead of rope, easier for making the same length and a piece of rebar through the chain to keep from pulling through. Rope gives, chain will not.
I made a somewhat similar set from hardwood flooring and yellow pine 2x4 I tried chain in a earlier set of wood folding sawhorses the small chain got tangled up and wore on the holes in the boards it's easier to use para cord or something and adjust the knot I was hoping they figured out a better hold open to keep the horses from folding up when sliding materials on them

Advantech Lifetime warranty. I have a lifetime of experience. Borkleboard products (any and all pressed particle, strand, chip board products) Now hear this,,, NONE of them have lasted a lifetime. None of them have held diagonal driven hardwood flooring pins or nails. If your total intent is to build for today,, and your 9intent is that all floors will be carpet or laminated type flooring,, or other. Then by all means,,, use borkleboard. You'll get what you pay for,,,,, you may be lucky,, and you may not. Sawhorses? You spend too much. Mine are scrap 2X stock or even new 2X4 2 and 1/3 8 footers needed per sawhorse. Screws are preferred but machine nails work well. They don't fold, but they do stack. Faster, cheaper, at least as strong, no metal hinge to miss, 1/3 the price, just the saw and a screw gun for manufacture.
I got halfway through the video and you officially took too long to make a set of horses. We have a saying here in omaha, "were not building a piano" and you built a spaceship to build your piano. Come on dude
You understand that this video is to show how to make this style. Therefore its going to go much slower than actually building them. Additionally, because they last so long, who cares? You don't have patience and as you get older I'm sure you'll learn that speed isn't everything.

Drill the corners of the lightening hole/cutout. Much stronger and much less chance of splitting from the radius edges. Almost no extra time needed!
