That blonde guitarist is Dimytri Oksen. He left the band to pursue a career in acting. He appears later in the Jinjer video "Disclosure" where he plays an interogating officer. You can also see him when he was still in the band in "Outlander" video.
the unfamiliar guitarist is Dmitriy Oksen -- the last founding member , left after _Cloud Factory_ to pursue an acting career , so the band just decided to remain as a 4-piece. they're still friends with him, and he does show up in the _Disclosure_ video to play the part of the interrogator. the rest of this album is right in this same vein (and many of us refer to it as "baby jinjer"). I think my fav on this album is _Until the End_ . I seem to remember Tati doing an interview discussing the evolution of her scream technique ; and iirc, she had "forgotten" how to do it during some down-time, and had to re-teach herself, and it just came back "different" and could never find that original sound 😅🤷♂
That's a bit of blind luck. Lost how to scream, came back better, and more menacing, haha. Baby Jinjer is a good way to put them. Did Dimitry do well with acting?
I love Scissors! When you said there might be an effect on her voice it might have just been the vocal backing track, so we can hear two of Tatiana singing at the same time, which they do in a few songs, sometimes for a harmony line and sometimes just for a thicker sound. Thank you, as always Rusty, for your great reaction and for bringing more of the fantastic music of Jinjer to more people! ❤️ 🖤 🤘
Oh yeah, I totally get why they do it. I enjoy the effect and the vibe it created. I appreciate the kind words. Thank you for being here and helping me spread the word. Hopefully we can reach many more!
This song was my first exposure to Jinjer back in the early 2010s. It was a suggested song on the music service I had at the time and I added it to my daily playlist. I listened to it for many years before I ever really looked into the band. I was blown away to learn it was only one amazing vocalist doing both cleans and growls. As well as the sheer talent that oozes out of of everyone in the band. I went down a deep rabbit hole and became obsessed with them. I still cannot get enough Jinjer. Great reaction, thank you!
@greglanders1 Dude. I love it when that happens. A song just clicks with you. Next thing you know, it's 4am, and you're still listening. Used to have those moments all the time
Hello. An other one said why her technique change. You can hear the same sound on outlander (live loadfest is the best) or other songs in the same temporality. But she was already able to go low ,not like now but lower than here (but with the same base sound, I do not know how to say it better :) ), you can check exposed as a liar to hear it. (sry if my English is not perfect, not native tongue, and I try to not use translator to continue to train my level ;) )
It is very different. I think I like some of their other older songs better (A Plus or a Minus, No Hoard of Value, Outlander) and I might be wrong but this is the only song where I think she wrote about a personal relationship instead of something deeper. I think she sounds much closer to Alisa of Arch Enemy in this than what she sounds like now. Her singing started to change around the time they were signed to Napalm. In fact she put much more grit into their song I Speak Astronomy when they did it live than the way it is on the album. Getting signed and dropping the second guitar seems to have changed a lot. She eventually dropped the dreads and her cleans became cleaner. Every once in a while you hear that vocal tone on a note or two because it is the same person but a combination of getting older and maybe their career getting more serious did change things. I agree it's good but different. If you listen to any of the stuff from Cloud Factory and then listen to live versions of some of those they did later and then compare those to King of Everything (which is the album Pisces is on) and onward you can't miss the change. On a more subtle level Tati's vocal tones have changed like her outfits and looks. There are harsh vocal tones that she was using 6 years ago she doesn't use any longer. To hear her talk about it she's forgotten more about harsh vocals than most ever learn (to paraphrase a line in a Lethal Weapon film).
I didn't have Alissa in mind, but I'll go back at some point and compare. I assume Cloud Factory was before King of Everything. I tried to notice that as I do through the songs. And that a good film to paraphrase.
@@RustySabita Cloud Factory was their first full album and when they were signed to Napalm the company re-released it which is pretty usual. King of Everything was their first album under Napalm.
Fun fact every former member of Jinjer plus some fans and crew show up in their video The Prophesy. It must have been a blast to film that video even during the pandemic but it's pretty unusual that they don't have members that quit because they hate their former bandmates and never want to see them again. That story is something you hear all the time and I saw it when I played music. That's how you know they are all good people.
@@coder4liberty Yeah, I hear that story all the time, but it's cool they all get on still. Another band is Killswitch Engage. Howard, the lead singer left due to dealing with his diebetes (touring was taking its toll on that). That, and I think he developed depression as well. Luckily, they all remained tight and even appeared on a song later on, which I was so happy about.
@@RustySabita in the "stayed on good terms" theme -- Helloween has re-collected all 3 vocalists that have been with the band over the years, and now all 3 of them share the stage.
Yes, That guitarist you were commenting on was Dmitry Oksen. The last remaining original member. Who left shortly after this. We can see Roman Ibramkhalilov (current guitarist) and Eugene Abdukhanov (bass) in this video, who are both in the current band. I'm not sure which Drummer this is. It's not the original, but I also don't think it's Yevhen Mantulin, who was their drummer that fell out a window and broke his back, leaving him paralyzed. I think this is Oleksandr Koziychuk. Who was replaced by Mantulin right after this. But this might be Koziychuk...IDK when this was filmed. When this song was written it Mantulin. This was a tumultuous time for them. They were all drinkers nd partying with drugs. And they didn't get along. In fact, even after the original guitarist (Oksen), who was a head case and problem, left the band, Eugene and Roman didn't get along. They went through at least one more drummer after Mantulin's accident before finding Vlad. And they all say that Vlad was the final piece that really made them a family. He was just the right personality to bring everyone together. Now they are real pros. No more partying. I know Tati is at least fully sober, but I believe the whole band is. They've really settled into their own.
This is not one of my favorites from them. I’ve been really vibing with Ape lately. I didn’t like that one at first but it grew on me. I hope you do that one next!
I think that Tati's harsh vocal technique at the time this song was recorded (probably some time in 2011) was more centered on fry scream, whereas she now uses more false vocal chord screams. She still uses grit in some of her clean vocals (and I love it when she does), but I do think she uses it less than she used to. I also think that more of her earlier clean vocals had a more nasal timbre, sometimes enough to put me off a bit. A good example of her more nasal timbre on earlier recordings is the studio live performance of "Destroy" featuring Tati and the boys, a song from Jinjer's debut EP Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear, which was recorded before Tati joined the band. Search "Jinjer - Destroy (Live BEASTIARIUM_005_2011-08-25)". I prefer the more velvety timbre she uses more often in later her work.
@hemlock399 Those some good points there, and I completely agree. I keep forgetting the names of these types of techniques. I'll try and keep these in mind going forward to expand my knowledge. Thank you for the comment.
regarding Tati's clean singing . I think it's definitely a less sophisticated singing than she does today. But it's also doubled in post, and harmonized. So I think there are 3 layers if not more. I thin that alone is giving it a kind of synth effect, if one of them isn't actually kissed with a synth effect.
I love early Jinjer, I wish I could have met them when they were just starting out. There are a lot of Jinjer gems out there. Tatiana's growls have changed through the years.
@@SteveSmith-os5bs my cousin had them streaming live at her wedding on the big screen... we were like what the hells going on... took me years to stumble upon them on my own... incredible...
I like almost all Jinjer. But I'm much more fond of the song writing in their modern stuff. And I like them better as a 3 piece instrumentation. There is more of an effort to orchestrate their sound now...make it full with one guitar, a bass, and drums. IMO, this era of Jinjer was just another metalcore band. Today's Jinjer is something unique and all it's own. And Vlad is really underappreciated. The drums in this sound so generic. Vlad really brings something special to the band that this version was missing.
