The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and in 2017 made Dimash a mega-star overnight. That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Also, one of the reasons that Dimash was invited back as a guest at Slavic Bazaar is because he had won that competition previously at an even younger age. When he went back to his home country of Kazakhstan his award was celebrated highly, because he went to Belarus representing the best of Kazakhstan. He became widely known as a great singer in his home country then. He had only won competitions in his home country before and had sometimes been criticised for his highest notes, for screaming, and for mixing classical and contemporary styles in one song. All these things make him the best and most unique singer now, but were frowned upon by some classically trained judges and vocal coaches. One said 'Less is sometimes more. Just because you can doesn't mean you should'. The same criticism is levelled at him even now, by people who don't 'get' him. Dimash is taking music to a new level that has no boundaries. I know that when I first heard Dimash sing this song. I was struck with a Divine realization. I was in the presence of greatness. One of those rare times where the rest of the world kind of fell away and really got to enjoy the experience. The amazement came after and then I watched it like 20 more times because I was amazed and that was my experience. Then after that I was introduced to LP the same day the next song after SOS from Dimash was live session Lost on You, which at the time had something like eight thousand views. Now it's got over a billion. Well deserved, although I have to say that this guy is the one that should have that many views. However in actuality they are both something to behold for different and various reasons. Dimash takes the Cake in sheer Ah and Wonder.

The way I found to celebrate the majesty of Dimash's talent was to have written the following about him: If I were to rule the world, I would immediately add, to the universal declaration of human rights, another article (they would become 31) whose wording would next "All human beings have the right, at least once in their lives, to hear Dimash sing". I am a Professor and I believe that I have a special profession that allows me to transform the human heart and consequently the human society. I work with young people and young people need to have good references. I had been looking for someone for a long time, of whom I could speak to the young people I work with, as a good reference. That person should be young, a super talent, a super mega star in the art world and above all, because he is the most important, a good human person. I searched and never found anyone with these characteristics. Until, finally, I found this person and that person is Dimash. I had the opportunity to say this to Dimash, personally, when I was with him in Latvia where I went, coming from Portugal (there are 8000 km round trip), on the 7th of March 2020. SOS is a song from a French Canadian space opera called Starmania. The original singer passed away, and Dimash first sang it as a tribute, from what I hear. In the opera, I'm told that the protagonists gf died, and this song is his mourning over her.
I'm from Québec Canada and this song was perform by a lot of courageous and talented performer. Dimash don't have a good prononciation but he gave a gorgeous performance for this song and make it shine at the international 👌
@@eviljeep yes, he did, didn't he? 🌞💕 I'm surprised, however, to hear your criticism of his French pronunciation given most French citizens I've watched do reactions of this particular rendition have always complimented his diction & pronunciation unlike the 1st rendition in the Chinese TV competition of " I am a Singer" where his French wasn't quite as good they said. But, as you said, his performances on the international stage have been excellent. I believe he's the best singer ever and am thankful to be alive to hear him in this way with a possibility of seeing him live, in-person before I die.

I speak french very each day of my life and i just say that, sometimes, he's getting some difficulties to pronounce some words. Yeah, you’ll see a lot of way OTT superlatives about Dimash-he’s earned most of them. I won’t say he’s the best in the world. I haven’t heard every other singer in the world, so I can’t know that. But he’s definitely the best I’ve heard, and I grew up around some extraordinary vocalists. This guy has been training his voice since he wasn’t much more than a toddler, and it shows. Born 1994, he’s from Kazakhstan in Central Asia (between Russia and China), and has been training his voice since the age of 5. Even today, he’s still studying music, working towards his Doctorate at the National University of the Arts in his country. He’s the most versatile performer I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing: he sings in many different genres, can play several musical instruments, dance, act, do sports, model - you name it, I feel he could do it! SOS is a song from a French Canadian space opera called Starmania. The original singer passed away, and Dimash first sang it as a tribute, from what I hear. In the opera, I'm told that the protagonists gf died, and this song is his mourning over her.
I'm from Québec Canada and this song was perform by a lot of courageous and talented performer. Dimash don't have a good prononciation but he gave a gorgeous performance for this song and make it shine at the international 👌
@@eviljeep yes, he did, didn't he? 🌞💕 I'm surprised, however, to hear your criticism of his French pronunciation given most French citizens I've watched do reactions of this particular rendition have always complimented his diction & pronunciation unlike the 1st rendition in the Chinese TV competition of " I am a Singer" where his French wasn't quite as good they said. But, as you said, his performances on the international stage have been excellent. I believe he's the best singer ever and am thankful to be alive to hear him in this way with a possibility of seeing him live, in-person before I die.

I speak french very each day of my life and i just say that, sometimes, he's getting some difficulties to pronounce some words. It's ok, he's great and i'm proud of him to have the courage to sing that song at this level👌 btw, i'm sure that my writing english have some fails too. That's part of the game, and it's ok 😁

Yeah, you’ll see a lot of way OTT superlatives about Dimash-he’s earned most of them. I won’t say he’s the best in the world. I haven’t heard every other singer in the world, so I can’t know that. But he’s definitely the best I’ve heard, and I grew up around some extraordinary vocalists. This guy has been training his voice since he wasn’t much more than a toddler, and it shows.

GRUBBY DIMASH Terry Lin doing "Feelin' Good". a beloved classic ! ( close personal friend of Dimash, perform in each other's concerts) is well worth a look at. Several years ago, Dimash found out at the last minute he was going to be alone on Christmas, literally raced out the door, caught a plane and called a mutual friend to go over there and make sure the door was open. A small knock and a grinning Dimash face peered around the door and Lin's stunned face caught on her cell phone as Dimash bounded in, grabbed him in a bear hug and swung him around yelling Merry Christmas! Wearing the grubbiest knit hat, sweats and tennis shoes in the East, you know the ever elegant Dimash left in a rush!
