The pleasure of Baroque music in contrasting small groups of solo instruments (concertino) with other sections performed by the full orchestra (tutti) is evident. In addition, Handel's personal taste for complex counterpoint and rich harmonies is reflected in the clarity of texture of the brass parts. This careful composition avoids the confused tones that could have been caused by the particular acoustics of outdoor concerts. This piece therefore represents a pinnacle of outdoor composition and has become one of Handel's most popular orchestral works.

Beinum looks so warm and kind in this picture.....he so much resembles my dear, departed and highly missed french art teacher a lot. I´m crying, when hearing this and seeing van Beinums warm smile..... I SO miss my art teacher...and his idealistic wife.

I had no idea Van Beinum was only 59 when he died. This was recorded just a year before his death....Boy he sure made an impact in that brief time!! You have 4 eras of great Dutch Conductors MENGELBERG, VAN BEINUM here, BERNARD HAITINK, and NOW, JAAP VON ZWEDEN!

it was the Golden Age of classical music and the now seemingly ancient LPs when this lovely recording was released. Imagine walking down the street of a city, and hearing this just pour out the front door, sometime in the '60s or '70s. Along with the other facets mentioned about it, the interplay with the harpsichord at key points, and the competition between the trumpets and French horns are truly a treat to listen to. Nothing produced since compares to my primal ear....My deepest thanks for sharing this with us.....

I don't know but the more I listen to these older "wrong" performances of Baroque and Classical music, the more I like them. It's as if you can feel the emotions expressed in the music. In too many HIP perfomances what I feel is something like the musicians being in a hurry to catch the next train right after the concert

Thanks Classical Music for uploading this 1971 remastered recording. Of course I knew Wassermusik back in 1971, but I have no recollection of this precious recording. At that time Handel was known mostly from wassermusik, feuerwerk and Messiah in my country of birth. My recollection of wassermusik was a brighter , almost military music. The present recording seems to me much more delicate, more musical, the polyphony and the structure take primacy. A reference recording indeed.

Somptueux ! Merci pour la note de description . La restauration de la prise de son de 1958 est remarquable. Un vrai miracle. On parle beaucoup du "ruissellement" en économie, ici c'est la beauté qui ruisselle et là, au moins, tout le monde en profite .

Water was always used as a medium to surprise others.Even the Christ had used it for converting into wine to surprise ancient Israelis! Here Handel's sweet watering music has taken only a little more than forty years for its continued surprisal, in my case. What a wonderful way of surprising- musically. Thanks for the upload, rather surprising!

It's hard to hear worse: rhetorical, heavy and energy-less reading. It seems that this channel only favours outdated performances without any critical-historical approach to ancient music.
