- My first ever proper layout update!
This video looks at my work over the last few months to prepare this video and layout-a fresh slate. I'm so incredibly excited and am spurred on by the support of my Patreons! I know it might not look like much at first glance, but I can see how everything will come together.
I'm also happy to show off my latest steamer, a GWR Dean Single class! Named after a famous LEGO Pirates Set, 'Black Seas Barracuda' - shortened to 'Barracuda'. It needs some decals to be called complete, but the build has been fully finalised. This was a really fun model and is something I've always wanted to build after seeing it attempted by another a few years ago: flic.kr/p/eiuz1H

I like how on the new steam engine it has a Lego brick built wheel to give it a impression that its the main driving wheel, and it looks so Victorian-esque especially when traversing over that bridge like its straight out of the 1880's.
Really love the brick-built wheel, even though it's not functional it definitely looks the part! Couldn't agree more. I really love the Victorian vibe of the bridge, I'm hoping to emulate that aesthetic into the layout - mixed with some late 80s' LEGO nostalgia!
@@Britishbricks I strongly agree. Ooh..... that reminds me. You should definitely add some little hidden LEGO easter eggs like Harry Potter (Such as Ron Weasley's Ford Anglia 105E Car) and Doctor Who (Like a few LEGO Daleks, Weeping Angels, and of course the Doctor's Tardis which would be a very nice little touch to a LEGO Train Layout)............ to name a few. You should also add a few fishing boats/or barges going underneath your LEGO bridge too. I read A LOT of "Model Railroader Magazines", and I usually get new "Model Railroader Magazines" at the end of EACH month, and they come in very very very handy in coming up with ideas on how you want to design your model Train Layout. My Parents and I still haven't yet decided on building a model Train layout yet maily due to SPACE issues, time, and also my parents are usually very very busy in their own jobs.
Watch this becoming the best LEGO RUclipsr city
Maybe not the best, but I'm hoping to be up there ;)
Wow, this is gonna be one hell of a layout. Love the dean single too. I’m starting to make my own layout too. It’ll just be a display layout with my station, signal box and a goods shed (until I find more space)
Thanks Seth! Can't wait to see your layout, I'm sure it'll be a ripper!
Thanks Sam. I also just realised the pictures on the wall. Love that you’ve printed off pictures of others builds for display
@@sethbricked It's the Patreon wall :) Members send me a photo of whatever they want and I chuck them up onto the wall.
Huh, that's pretty cool. Might be worth checking it out ;)
@@Britishbricks quick question. Have you thought of making a goods and/or engine shed?
Needs some hillsides too👀😍
Cheers Ollie, I'll definitely work some into the layout for sure! Plus a new brake van ;)
@@Britishbricks 😍😍😍
YEEEEEEEES GOOOOOO! The goosebumps from the upview shot on the overpass! The single running so smooth! The potential for this layout! This is so exciting man! Get the baseplates down is half the battle. Now just gotta fill ‘em! Fantastic start friend! I wish you speedy progress and fulfilling builds!
Cheers Trace! I’m just as excited as you are, it’s honestly a battle just to get a blank canvas setup like this! But now that I have everything laid out, I’m hoping it won’t take me long to get cracking on the layout!
I liked the door the most, maybe a suggestion would a engine park for narrow or standard gauge loco's in some sort of park area if your planning one.
Which door? Narrow gauge would be nice but not sure if I could fit it in. I’d like a seperate layout for that. Thanks!
I would love to see the station you built on the layout! Always loved that piece since the first video you posted about building it and would love to see it again. :)
I’m hoping to use again, however the style doesn’t quite match the environment I’m now modelling. Let’s hope I can make it work!
very handsome dean single you got there
Thank you! Should look even better with some lining!
Looks bloody brilliant mate! Love the bridge, cant wait to see what type of station you have a crack at!
Cheers mate, me too. Not entirely sure what kind of look I want for it yet. Feel free to leave some suggestions.
Wowee i do love the victorian locos and rolling stock. Is such a shame no one else seems to actaully build in such a style. Big, big fan mate.
Thanks mate (not sure why my reply didn't send) I love victorian locos too! Definitely don't see a lot of them built in LEGO.
I would love to see the castle situated on a hill that the train passes through, maybe a small station beside it for visitors to explore it
Probably won’t be on a hill, but it’ll be mounted up slightly higher than the track work.
Cool! Also you should make a 14XX or a pannier G.W.R tank engine. It would be pretty cool
Really cool layout!!
The use of halfpipes for the bridge is brilliant.
I love the use of the monorail in the layout.
Thanks mate, I’d like to have more monorail track in the layout, hopefully I can fit it in somewhere.
It’s always an AMAZING day when you upload man. I’ve currently got a similar layout on a table but in HO scale, and not made of LEGO
Thank you so much, glad to hear you like my videos. Cool to hear you have a layout too!
The plan sounds great, and I love the single wheeler and the way you pulled off the driving wheel! Can’t wait to see where this goes.
Cheers mate, super excited to share the progress of the layout!
YOoooo poggers i love this already
Thank you!
I love the faux driving wheel that is covering what I assume is a medium or large Lego wheel on the inside. A very clever and simple solution to the main issue with this class of engine. Thank you for the inspiration now to try and scale it to 6 wide for a Thomas "Emily" engine!
The overpass and underground sections already look fantastic too. Cannot wait to see how this layout develops.
Correct, large wheel to be precise. It is very similar to how Carl did his, but I altered the design to use of those large 4x4 macaroni tiles to simulate the flanges. Thanks for the great feedback Scott, cannot wait to share what I have got planned next!
can i just say that i'm keen to see your new layout when complete as i have a single line with 1 siding going around my small lego city
anyways keep up the great work 😀
Cheers mate, nice to hear you have a LEGO city too!
Great use of the skate ramp at 2:20 for those bridge arches
Not my idea, but it looks so good - planning on doing another bridge like it. Thanks!
So cool, I hope you start with the engine shed, goods shed and the industrial stuf… hope to de more on a regular basis 😜
Engine shed is something that would be nice, although I'm thinking of something a little more medieval...
Looks good so far.
Cheers :D
Very promising so far, can't wait to see how it turns out.an interesting building to add might be a cafe or bus depot.
Want a cafe, not sure if I have room for a bus stop. I’d like to build a London bus though!
@@Britishbricks sounds great man, I guess another option could be a newsagent
Being a GW fan myself, I think Dean Singles are gorgeous even your Lego form!
2:20 The scene where the engine crossing the viaduct is just picturesque!
My favourite part of running my trains, is over that bridge - thanks!
That layout is going to be great. I love the idea of a castle and the bridge is excellent. I look forward to updates.
You and me both! I've always loved the classic castle line from LEGO and it should be fun to draw some inspiration from some of the models that came out in the late 80s'. Cheers :D
I love the layout! I can’t wait to see where it goes!
Me too, thanks mate :D
Excellent work man. You deserve a good night's rest. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Also, next MOC could you document your thinking and building process?
Thanks Andrew! Great idea, think I can do it in the next layout update. Cheers :)
Love how your layout is looking fantastic, my favorite is your lamp posts, the wall that looks like it would be in duct or canal reservoir and off course your locomotive with out ignoring the elephant in the video. As always I love your model designs thanks again for sharing I’m constantly learning from your videos your block junction building instructions and your q&a web cast you do with the American train design builder. Wish I was down under to talk trains and stuff
Thank you so much mate! Glad you've been able to learn a few things here and there, need to do another live stream soon I reckon!
That bridge is stunning!
Thank you! :)
I Absolutely love the potential for this layout! Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Me too, super excited to get started!
This looks very promising. Good luck and happy building!
Super excited, cheers mate!
So beautiful
Thank you!
Awesome layout! That GWR dean single also looks fantastic!
Cheers Matt! It certainly looks the part going over the bridge!
I love your use of pieces all through Legos catalogue such as the old signs and numbers. I can't wait to see more updates on your layout!
Maybe add a place for your road vehicles but I presume you will add that to the industrial section. Best of luck on the layout Sam
I'm hoping to have some roads through my building district as well through the industrial area. Just so long as I can fit it in, not going to cram any massive road plates into the layout.
I can’t wait to see it done! As for building ideas, what about a lego store or model railway shop?
Great ideas, LEGO shop has to be a must if possible.
This is really exciting!! It already is starting to look really really good, and I can't wait to see more of it. I just recently finished my layout, I've been meaning to post pictures of it for some time now. You have lots of space and opportunity to have a little bit of everything, from countryside, town, and industry. It's going to look fabulous. Keep us updated, and best of luck!
Cheers Owen! I think I saw a video of your latest layout on a LEGO train channel...? If it was it looked amazingly detailed! Thanks :)
Can't wait to see the layout finished! So far I love it!! Same goes for the new moc!
Part 2 coming out this week!
Great camera angles! Especially the shot of the train going over the bridge!
Thanks mate! Always try to improve how I film my models, so glad you like it!
@@Britishbricks The angle makes such a difference! It has given me some ideas for my smaller Lego. I look forward to seeing your layout progress!
@@bricksmicro Thanks mate :)
This looks amazing! Hoping to see more in the future!
You definitely will, thanks!
I really look forward to seeing this layout develop!
Glad to hear! Thanks mate :)
HOOORRRRAYYY ITS DONE!!! ITS AMAZING!
Thanks Oliver, glad you like it too!
I absolutely love the bridge.
A pub would be cool
Way ahead of you ;)
A new era of Britishbricks👌
Where no Britishbricks has gone before XD
I’d like to see some terraced houses on a hill overlooking the railway
I’d love that too!
Would love to see a factory or warehouse building for trucks to be left in for loading/unloading
Some factory of some kind will be on my list! Want something with three big chimneys!
Looking forward to seeing more. How about a saw mill, or builder's yard? Haven't seen that added to a lego layout.
Builders' yard is a great suggestion, think it might be a little too urban for a saw mill (but I still like the idea). Thanks!
Welcome to the world of layout building Sam! You have a lot of long and expensive days ahead of you!
Don't even XD My wallet has taken a beating this week. Luckily I have the support from both RUclips and Patreon to keep me going!
@@Britishbricks :P
absolutely love your models, for the town area maybe like a public fountain as nice visual piece?
Great idea, will try my best to fit one in!
I don't know why, but this brought me back to 4th grade when I had a cobbled together Lego town over my bed. It even had a bridge to my dresser, and a make shift subway loco.
Glad it brought back some good memories! :D
I've been waiting so long for this!!!!
Sorry for the wait, but hopefully now things will progress much quicker!
This is gonna be good!
Thanks mate! :D
@@Britishbricks no problem
1. The bridge has to be my favourite part.
2. How are there comments from 2 days ago?
Patreon supporters get early access to all my videos, photos and behind the scenes content :) Thanks!
I have a small layout that has distance of two 42x42 and one 32x32 baseplates. One question. How does the train run? Does it have a motor in the locomotive, or does it have a wagon with the motor on it? Love the beginnings of the model, especially the fact you're going to add lighting to it. Keep it up! 😎👍
I love what people can do with small layouts. Makes it easy to focus on the details. I did a quarry build for ocTRAINber a few years ago if you haven’t seen that.
Nooiiiiiiiceeeee ur layout building skills and moc building skills are remarkable and hope the 14xx I asked is small enough to manage the yard
Let's hope so, thanks!
Thanks man I like the Moc you build so cool
Also could you name a shop after me
Bet its gonna look epic!!! Keep up the good work.;)
Thanks mate, I hope so!
not bad
Thanks!
That locomotive deserves to be on Lego City or Lego Creators.
I love the design on this build, where is the battery and motor located?
Inside the long brown wagon, thanks!
@@Britishbricks Nice, do you have a blueprint or tutorial for the train? Im planning to build it, for my first train collection
Amazing layout and the barracuda engine is amazing too. I just made a video about my Emerald Night go ahead and watch it and let me know what you think.
Thanks Jacob! Glad you like the loco. Will check your video now :)
You should make a tile shop building and put some custom stickers on the tiles. Like how you did for your trucks.
Cool idea!
You have a lot of space to play with assuming your going for double track loops, i like all the storage space underneath the layout thats a neat idea will you be adding sheds and servicing areas or will that be part of the yard ?
Double loop, with an elevated single line! Maybe a service area but probably no sheds because of the limited size.
@@Britishbricks so a coal stage and water tower ? The elevated line sounds interesting something on a shuttle system ?
That benchwork looks fantastic! Any plans to go full MILS with the landscaping?
I personally don't think MILS is necessary, I know a lot of big RUclipsrs are using it on their layout (as have most train communities for a while) but it seems like a waste of bricks. If I need to raise something up with a lot of bricks, I rather use a piece of foam or something that you won't ever see. Thanks for the suggestion though :)
@@Britishbricks I see why you'd shy away, it's pretty cost-prohibitive. I'm working on converting a bunch of my buildings to MILS right now for my layout; I've ordered enough parts to convert 16 different buildings (some of which aren't in my hands yet because they're Bricklink Designer pre-orders) and I've already exceeded the cost of the average Modular building.
I'm sticking with MILS though, for the ease of running electronics cables around the layout. I'm planning on installing lighting kits in the buildings and Trixbrix's remote-operated switch motors all over the layout so I can run things like a traditional model train layout; putting the wires under the terrain is gonna keep everything as clean as possible.
Still, can't wait to see your layout come alive!
@@andrewmazzarini2742 Fitting wires is certainly something I'll have to consider. MILS definitely has it's benefits, especially transportation, but for a static display that I don't intend on taking anywhere, foam inserts will do for now :)
i have seen that in most older parts of cities the trains (not metros or subways ,but overground trains) go underground to avoid having to knock down any old structures , maybe u could add that?
Probably couldn’t do it at this scale, more want to see the actual trains running through the town, plus one that rides above the city.
Could u do some more narrow guage things? I've been hoping to see you do some narrow guage things. Also, could you do an upgrade video for the Lego hogwarts express set? Where you improve some things you don't like about it, similar to how you did for the emerald night?
2:20 - WOW, I’ve got 4 of those huge curved skate ramps in dark tan (from set 3537: Skateboard Vert Park Challenge) waiting to be turned into a rail bridge… your video has inspired me to get on with designing and building it.
It’s a good part use. (They say great minds think alike!)
Interesting how you filled in the tan bricks above the arches, does the other side look the same?
Thanks Jez, I've just started my second bridge which uses dark tan too!
I haven't gotten around to finishing the other side of the bridge yet, but have the pieces to do so. I'm just a bit short on time.
@@Britishbricks
Ahhh... time... the MAIN component that my LEGO City is lacking, which they don't sell on Bricklink!
I asked about the other side as I was trying to work out how you'd slotted in the tan bricks BEHIND the rim of the curve, as they should collide with the rim - Are the tan bricks "Off-grid" as it were?
Love the arched bridge - are those grey arch pieces Lego/Duplo? do you know the part number or which set they were in?
Maybe there could be enough space in your layout to put a small narrow gauge line.
Wow cool! Are you going to do a round house?
Probably not, it would have to be too big to fit my engines, and I'd rather have running space than static space. Thanks :)
@@Britishbricks ok
Wow someone’s been busy
Working hard, hope part 2 comes out soon!
Some time you should make the dean goods
Do you think you would make a mock for like the lower track
EEEEEEEEEEMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY yey . How do doing this you аre а LEGEnd . where аre the donald and douglas?
Glad you like it, I don’t do those kind of models. Thanks!
Train shed
Train shed would be nice but might be a little hard to fit in, even though I really want one!
2:25 I really like those arches! Are those the old skateboard ramps?
You bet! Not my idea, but still my design for the bridge.
@@Britishbricks Well now I feel the need to figure out how to cram a bridge on a 30 x 72" folding table :)
can there be baker street on your layout?
Probably not, sorry.
Emily!
No, 'Barracuda' :)
Uh the large wheels is fake, its use round tiels.
Yes.
