    In this video I’ll be walking you through a couple of the different ways we can use parallel A/B paths in the Line 6 Helix & HX Stomp. Creative signal routing is one of the biggest pros to going the full digital modeler route and the possibilities are endless. Here are a few examples that I’ll talk about:
    Bass - this is an obvious one. When you’re playing with effects on the bass guitar, you need to preserve your dry signal to maintain your role in the band. Patch a dry path in beside the wet effects.
    For a pristine clean tone - a lot of people have found one of the biggest faults of the Helix to be the clean tones. When you turn the gain down on most of the amp blocks, you lose a lot of bass and mid content which results in a thin, sterile sound. Use a direct line with an overdrive as the preamp into a cab sim to bring back some of the lost frequencies.
    Parallel compression - when you want a really compressed signal but still need to retain the integrity of the transients in your signal. Run a compressed path side by side with a lesser compressed or clean path.
    For retaining clarity with heavy gain - this is a trick that a lot of Dumble-style circuits employ. A clean tone run side by side with the distortion. You’ll hold onto the grit and sustaining qualities of the overdrive, while maintaining the ability to play dense chord voicings. The best of both worlds.

    Hey Alex, I don't understand how an overdrive can run into a speaker on path B. I'm talking about the jazz tone. Hope you can help me please. I'm new with the helix.

      One of the great things with the Helix (and modeling in general) is that you can experiment with everything, even things that wouldn't be normal to do. All you need to do is drop an overdrive in front of a speaker without an amp block.

    I'm so confused with separate signal paths in general. What is the point in putting a an overdrive in a separate signal path. Wouldn't it sound the same just putting in in the same path?

    • @AlexPriceMusician
      @AlexPriceMusician  3 года назад +4

      The point is now you have the clean tone running side by side with the distorted tone. All the benefits of overdrive but now you've got the clarity of your clean tone too. It's like having a mix or blend control on your overdrive pedal.

    Do I have to do it this using my computer like the video shows or I can do it manually directly in the Helix’s knobs?

    • @AlexPriceMusician
      @AlexPriceMusician  3 года назад +2

      It’s definitely easier to use the computer to edit in my opinion, but you will be able to do everything shown in this video on the actual Helix device as well!

    How do you safely switch off a helix??😂😂

    • @AlexPriceMusician
      @AlexPriceMusician  4 года назад +2

      You can just pull the power plug or use the on/off switch. There is no proper shut down command if that’s what you’re asking. Neither of those previous options will harm the unit.

    Nice sound, but jazz is so un-musical to me. There is no feelings in it.
